Product Description
The Eddie Album 1987

The first Ed Hale album was released on the Atlanta-based independent record label Alarming Talent Records in 1987 when Ed was still in high school. The album was simply called Eddie. It featured nine tracks including the ethereal piano ballads You and me and She says you're the one, and the more orchestral I'm not crazy, and the beatlesque ruminations of Just don't matter at all. The album also features never before seen photos from this early period, as well as all of the lyrics to every song on the album for the first time ever. This new digitally re-mastered version of the album also features the original home demo for the song My Wendy. It is being released to the public for the first time on this new re-release of the Eddie album. "Lots of sing along choruses; a concept album of sorts about a young man and, among other things, his first experiences with a prostitute, his feelings about life, love, sex, romance, and the pursuit of trying to make sense of it all..."

The Eddie album,Ed Hale,Tmg Records,Pop,Pop Vocals,Rock/Pop,Wonderfully out-dated late 80's sounding romantic pop ballads and rockers. If you liked the movies Breakfast Club or Pretty in Pink, you will love this album.

If its debut album 15 years ago made Pearl Jam apprehensive with success, the Seattle quintet better buckle in for a return to eminence. On its eighth studio release--and first since 2002--the band socks away the adventurous experimentation that dogged some of its most recent records to investigate a post-September 11, war-ravaged world overflowing with urgency and significance. "It's the same everyday in a hell manmade/What can be saved, and who will be left to hold her?" lead singer Eddie Vedder wonders in "World Wide Suicide," one of several contemptuous rants on the Bush administration. Yet the album's spark is more than political. Songs like "Life Wasted," "Comatose" and "Big Wave" embrace the garage-rock past, as guitarists Mike McCready and Stone Gossard play off each other with the primal lucidity of a decade ago and drummer Matt Cameron, one of rock's best, adds raw backing vocals to Vedder's polished craft. But Pearl Jam also turns up some of its most harmonious works since "Daughter," including "Marker in the Sand," with its radio-ready chorus, the tuneful "Parachutes" paced by Gossard's divine strumming, and the burning narrative and Urge Overkill punch of "Umemployable." Finally Vedder pleads for a lover's return in "Come Back," a keyboard-soaked love song complete with a chilling Gossard solo. It's got a soulfulness that begs for Sam Cooke to sing it and an originality that shows that a vibrant and cocksure Pearl Jam is back in town--and ready to retake the world. --Scott Holter

4 out of 5 stars Classic Pearl Jam!!.......2007-07-10

First off I am a huge Pearl Jam fan, I own all their albums including many bootlegs. I was a little young during their hayday but like them better than than 99% of the stuff put out today. This album is the most consistently good album the band has ever but together. That being said it is still not my favorite. The songs are all solid, my favorites being Life Wasted, Marker in the Sand, Parachutes, Unemployable and Come Back. However no songs reach the heights of Vitalogy, Vs, or even Riot Act. I think those who like classic Pearl Jam like Ten or Vs should check this out.

3 out of 5 stars A Definite Improvement But Falls Short Of Potential!.......2007-06-21

On May 2, 2006, one of the most popular and influential artists of their time, Pearl Jam, releases their eighth studio album simply entitled "Pearl Jam" with promises to deliver a sound reminiscent of their early grunge days. Although the band kept their promise, including heavy "Vitalogy"-like guitars and a notable return of Eddie Vedder's dominant vocal style, the album as a whole fell short of the band's potential only surpassing "Yield" and "Riot Act" in quality.

Highlights of the album such as the songs "Life Wasted, "Gone" and "Inside Job" provide Pearl Jam fans with classic, hard-hitting tunes while the remainder of the album leaves something more to be desired either lyrically and musically. Much respect should be given to the band for attempting to revive the formula that has brought them more than a decade of success, however, albums such as "Ten," "Vs," "Vitalogy," "No Code" and "Binaural" better represent the potential of Pearl Jam. Below, please find the rating for each song individually:

Life Wasted - 10/10

World Wide Suicide - 7/10

Comatose - 6/10

Severed Hand - 5/10

Marker In The Sand - 7/10

Parachutes - 7/10

Unemployable - 7/10

Big Wave - 6/10

Gone - 9/10

Wasted (Reprise) - 5/10

Army Reserve - 7/10

Come Back - 8/10

Inside Job - 10/10

4 out of 5 stars I like It...........2007-06-18

It's not their best effort. The songs are heavy and some are fast-paced which always a good thing. For a rock album, its good. For a Pearl Jam album, its ok.

5 out of 5 stars THE AVOCADO AVALANCHE.......2007-06-13

PEARL JAM's ASTOUNDING COMEBACK WITH ONE OF THE MOST AWAITED ALBUMS OF 2006 PROVES THAT THE SEATTLE BASED QUINTET HAS BEEN MASTERFUL IN THE ART OF REMAINING A RELEVANT VOICE FOR PAST, PRESENT, AND FUTURE GENERATIONS OF ROCK AFICIONADOS.

BY: Fernando de Mello Pimentel

It was with the first jamming power chords of their anthemic and revolutionary debut album "TEN", back in 1991, that Pearl Jam really brushed up the rusty edges of mainstream rock's conformism and lack of creativity of the previous decade. Now, fifteen years, more than half a dozen studio albums and over one hundred official bootlegs later, this colossal musical mammoth - bred from the fusion of Hendrix's bluesy guitar lines and elements of 70's classic rock - returns from a 4-year creative hiatus with an enthusiastic appetite for re-conquering its throne in the Alternative Rock circuit.

With a tempting overdose of heavily distorted guitar driven tunes, finely calibrated with a pure dose of freshly revitalized and angst-filled lyricism, "PEARL JAM", the Seattle quintet's 8th studio achivevement to date, also known informally among fans as the "Avocado Album", has rapidly established itself as a promising new milestone for the band, quite nearly duplicating the "sound and feel" of the early 90's primal grunge atmosphere.

What most fans might have realized by now with this release is that gone are the days of Vedder's personal lament and melodrama. Instead, the plot that "PEARL JAM" so merciless and competently explores through-out most of its tracks concerns a series of unfolding events which are all direct by-products of crass post-9/11 domestic and foreign affairs policies. Ultimately, with its sharp stinging verses aimed at the Bush Administration, the album is a wake-up call for world-wide alertness. Such thesis is revealed true by the content of songs such as "World Wide Suicide", "Life Wasted", "Army Reserve", and "Marker In The Sand".

Eddie Vedder and Company evoke nostalgic glories of an era when the Seattle quintet was a fearless locomotive of youthful bliss - a time when the group's performances were marked by its frontman's outrageous defiance of gravity, as he leaped for the crowd through remarkable stage-dives. In addition to Vedder's undeniable charisma and astounding vocal qualities, Pearl Jam's reputation as a state-of-the-art musical act has also been relying on the thrusting machine-gun riffing power of guitarists Stone Gossard and Mike McCready. The "kitchen" has always been subject to constant drummer replacements during the band's history. However, as of the 1998 "LIVE ON TWO LEGS" tour, bassist Jeff Ament finally found a permanent drumming force in the figure of the virtuoso-percussionist Matt Cameron.

Whether "PEARL JAM" is your very first-hand experience with the band, or if you're a seasoned die-hard fan striving along the last 15 years accompanying the band's musical trajectory, the least you can expect is a thrilling rush of musical ecstasy provided by one of the band's most mature and relevant accomplishments to date. Although not always as dazzling as the first three releases, "PEARL JAM" is a mandatory pick for any serious rock junkie.

***** FIVE STARS! The boys are back in business!!!

5 out of 5 stars "If nothing is everything, then I will have it all".......2007-06-12

Pearl Jam - Pearl Jam

This is the best album from Ed and Co. in almost a decade. Being one of the last bands standing from the so-called "Grunge" era, they have transcended their original label and have truly become a "rock" band. In this self-titled album, Vedder holds nothing back as he takes on subjects that have resonated throughout Pearl Jam's 15+ year career. While there may be threads between the subjects of the songs, the edge to this record is what makes it a great piece of work. From taking on the Administration in Washington in the first Single "World Wide Suicide," to the self-affirming "Life Wasted," the band is top notch in both sound and message.

Some of the best material on this album pays homage to the bands biggest influences. Thanking Pete Townsend for a borrowed lyric in the song "Gone," Vedder crafts a Springsteen-esque journey of a person who leaves town in an effort to get a fresh start on life. Songs like "Unemployable" tap the "man of the people" feel of both Springsteen and Neil Young.

One of the best songs was actually penned almost entirely by guitarist Mike McCready. Brought to the table all but complete, this song travels down the path of self-realization and of healing. It is very layered musically, and it is simply beautiful. There is a lot of straight rock on this album too. "Comatose" and "Severed Hand" are both loud and edgy. "Marker in the Sand" is moderately paced, but is just another stunning example of the quality found on this record.

There really aren't many weak points on this album. All of the songs have played well to the audiences during the 2006 tour to support the release of this record. If you like this, go to their website, you can download any of the shows from this past year's tour. Grand Rapids Michigan at Van Andel Arena and the shows at the United Center in Chicago are especially good.

5 out of 5 stars Love the Money Man.......2007-05-15

Eddie Money's (Mahoney)best music. This music gets constant play on rock 'n roll radio stations and rightly so. This album is a winner and will be for a long time to come.

5 out of 5 stars Drive and Listen.......2007-04-02

It is said that Eddie Money was a cop until he followed his heart and started in the music business.I remember myself when I was driving home in my car during a hot summer day.I turned on my radio and listened to a tune called"TAKE ME HOME TONIGHT".I was blown away.Eddie Money is pure Rock'n Roll, pure music and most of it all, music you can listen while driving or working out etc.I'm sure you know all the songs notably BABY HOLD ON or TWO TICKETS TO PARADISE.Don't wait too long.Eddie will never let you go.

4 out of 5 stars Good mix of songs.......2007-01-09

I had forgotten how many Eddie Money songs were so good! This is a nice compilation. I am happy with my purchase.

4 out of 5 stars Best of Eddie Money CD.......2005-09-22

I've always been a fan of the Money Man. This is a great CD of his biggest hits. I listen to it all the time.

5 out of 5 stars All the Great Tunes........2004-12-08

This Brooklyn born singer has a place in many hearts across America. His songs are up beat, joyful and have come to represent the good times in the late seventies and early eighties. In January of 1978, when his hit single, `Two Tickets to Paradise", dominated the airwaves, one could not turn on the radio without hearing this man's distinctive voice. This collection of Money's best, cover a long career from his debut album, "Eddie Money" to "Can't Hold Back", "No Control" and "Sound of Money". These are solid pop songs that have withstood the test of time and will continue to do so decades in the future.

One of my favourites is "Take Me Home Tonight" which brings on memories concerning warm summer nights, lost loves, old friends and beer parties that began at sunset and ended at dawn. It was a pleasure to put this CD on the stereo and remember the good times that these songs represent.

It is well known that for a singer to be good, there must be a passion in their voice, a distinctive power and honest intention in the delivery. There is no doubt that Eddie Money sings with passion and means every word. This is what makes him great. We can feel the passion, and therefore these songs mean something. He sings for keeps.

This is a wonderful collection to own and occasionally play to remember the good times. However, Eddie Money is a true icon of Rock, and his music appeals to new generations as well as old. Purchase this CD for yourself or as a gift to an old friend who can share the memories. Enjoy.

Queensrÿche's sequel to the classic 1998 concept piece Operation: Mindcrime is not as good as the original. Mindcrime II lacks the sense of sweeping cinematic awe found on the original and although the quintet has managed to create an album that's equal to or above any studio outing it's done in recent years, there's nothing here that will bolster the band back to its former glory. A distinct lack of standout songs is perhaps the greatest problem. "Revolution Calling," "I Don't Believe In Love," and "Speak" became Queensrÿche classics not because they were part of the grand concept found on O:M, but because they could be drawn out and held up as fine examples of writing that probed the corrupt spirit of the age. O:M bled heavy truths from its deepest grooves.

Those familiar with the concept from the first album should note that this second installment focuses on protagonist Nikki and his desire to exact revenge on the corrupt Doctor X, making for a more insular narrative. That's a problem because one of the great thrills of the original Mindcrime was the scope of its scorn; here, the band never reaches beyond the confines of the world it created for this updated fantasy. The urgency that emanated from the earlier affair hasn't become muted, it has simply faded.

Yet, this new record's better than you might first believe and proves difficult to fully dismiss. In the 18 years since the original installment the band has become leaner, often more exacting, possessing a confidence that was less pronounced on earlier recordings. Scott Rockenfield's drumming has grown more interesting with time and the years have done little to lessen vocalist Geoff Tate's multi-octave expertise. The dual guitar attack of Michael Wilton and Mike Stone lacks the depth that the classic Wilton/Chris DeGarmo pairing had, but it proves enamoring on tracks such as "The Chase" (featuring a surprisingly pallid-sounding Ronnie James Dio), the swaggering "Junkie's Blues," and the near return-to-form "Fear City Slide."

No matter its strengths, O:M II ultimately reinforces the idea that while Queensrÿche's greatest moments may still lie ahead, the prospects of that being true become increasingly scant with each passing record. A decent enough stab at rekindling old glory that fails with admirable flair. --Jedd Beaudoin

Album Description

Seattle quintet Queensryche has always stood apart from other heavy metal bands through their artful progressive bent and intense observations on the world around them. With their third album, 1988's Grammy-nominated and critically acclaimed Operation: Mindcrime-a concept opus born out of Reagan-era disilllusionment-Queensryche transcended the metal label and sealed their reputation for cerebral musci and heady lyrical vision. Set 20 years later, and awash in "rock, revenge, and redemption," this brilliant new sequel was inspired by current political and social climates.

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars A comeback- Sort of........2007-06-19

I have to admit that this album is growing on me when I listen to it more and more. At first I thought "blasphemy!", or "how could they do this"?
However, as I thought about it more and more, and read over interviews and years and years of discussion, studied Queensryche's history (one of my favorite bands at this moment), I began to see the reasons why the band chose to tackle this task. Its an enormous task, to be certain, because following up an album that is such a classic etched in time is not easy feat. On one level, OMCII is a very shallow sequel storywise. In fact, the story seems almost unnecessary when one looks at the album. Nikki gets revenge, then dies. I think it sums up most of the album's storyline, I feel that its a bit dissapointing in that regard. But the real motivation I believe for the band to do it, is not for a return to previous financial glory, but to PROVE TO THEMSELVES that they could do such an album without the input of one Chris Degarmo.
Its apparent that since his depature, the band has fumbled in the dark creatively (and critically, considering the scorn critics have lashed at their two previous releases) and the band wanted SOMETHING, ANYTHING to give them the motivation to do a good album again. So the results (this is only one persons opinion of course) are that the band chose to do Operation Mindcrime II.

Did they succeed? Yes and no. As previously stated, the storyline doesn't have that much depth. Sure it goes into Nikki's mind (in my opinion not enough), and his conscience, but I don't know if the story does anything but give an overview of a tortured soul.

Musically, however, Operation Mindcrime II is definitely back to where Queensryche were years ago.

Some "alternative" trappings remain (despite some previous statements to the contrary, there are some dropped d tuned songs on the record, more beatlesque or Zepelinish parts), and this is mixed with a mid period dual guitar format that QR used to explore on such records as Rage for Order or the original Mindcrime. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Its not that they totally abandoned the more alternative (or 70's rock based) sound of albums Promised Land onwards, but its not a one hundred percent trip back to the Eighties sound either.

The songs are there. Songs such as "the Hands" and "I'm American" are the best Queensryche have sounded in years. The album gets a little long winded in the second half, but thats ok, because the music is still more impassioned and epic then they've been for many years. Tate's singing is the best its been in years as well.

All is not great however. I don't feel the emotion is present that was on the original, even though it could have been.

Overall though, I think this is a step in the "Ryche" direction (couldn't resist the pun)!
I think that they have solidified the new lineup, and while Degarmo is not with the band anymore, they have proved that they are not creatively bankrupt with regards to writing music. The problem I see with it, is that they're halfway up to their previous glory, and its going to take more than a sequel to their best loved album to get there. I would have given this album four or five stars if the album was shorter, and it wasn't a sequel to Mindcrime (and the production was less muddy at times). It would have been still cool to have as a concept album, but by all means they could have come up with a different story and make that one more dramatic and convincing. By the way, rumor has it that the next album is being written, and that it will be a concept album, not at all related to the Mindcrime opus.

5 out of 5 stars QUEENSRYCHE rocks NOW, as THEN!!.......2007-06-18

Everyone gets older, even those complaining about rock stars aging and "losing their pipes." I don't care if Geoff's pipes seem a little worn out. The fact of the matter is that Queensryche is a great rock band overall, with or without Chris DeGarmo. From what I've seen and heard, apparently it sounds like sour grapes on Chris DeGarmo's part, as he really is being inconsiderate to the fans of Queensryche while he was in the group. By abandoning Queensrych, he's abandoning Queensryche fans. Perhaps he think he's better than the other members of Queensryche. If that's the case, I don't care if he EVER comes back to Queensryche. There's nothing more I hate than a STUCK UP MUSICIAN! There will ALWAYS be someone better, including someone BETTER than you, Chris DeGarmo. Of course, he added his 2 cents to the band, as did the other members and all members' contributions are critical. I really enjoy Queensryche's song "Open" on the Tribe album. This, in fact, could have very well been a track on Empire. I will always be a Queensryche follower/fan. Just remember: All musicians are gifted and there is no room for conceit among the multitude of talented musicians.

4 out of 5 stars excellent .......2007-06-10

If your a Q fan than yes this release has some great moments and is worth picking up!It took me awhile to buy it only because of the name they used for a title. Anytime you see a part 2 you have be on artist cashing in alert if you know what I mean. But this cd could have been called anything else and is still very good!! This cd is more of a rocker than tribe. The only thing that I would of liked to see is a free bonus dvd with this release it probably would of helped the sales of this effort of a band that was on top in the early 90s.

5 out of 5 stars If you like progressive, then progress!!.......2007-05-11

Dictionary definition: "Pro-gres-sive a: characterized by progress b: interested in new ideas c: moving forward or onward : ADVANCING Antonyms: dormant, lazy, sluggish, static, conventional, mainstream." What part of this don't we understand?

Why listen to "Operation: Mindcrime II" if you already have "Operation: Mindcrime"? Well, why listen to "Wish You Were Here" or "The Wall" if you already have "Dark Side of the Moon"? Why listen to "Red" if you already have "In the Court of the Crimson King"? Why listen to "Thick As A Brick" if you already have "Aqualung"? Why listen to "Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence" if you already have "Images and Words"? Why listen to "10,000 Days" if you already have "Lateralus"?

"Hello? McFly!?" It's "progressive" music. It progresses. It presents new ideas (musically and lyrically). It moves forward and onward. It advances. It is not dormant, lazy (sticking with the "same old same old"), sluggish, static, conventional, and definitely NOT mainstream.

No Queenryche, much like Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull, King Crimson, Dream Theater, or Tool are not "starving for popularity." ("Middle age will do that to you"?!?!! Please!! If progressive artists were interested in popularity they would do the same things over and over that brought them to popularity at periods of their careers. If anything, middle age has made these artists some of the finest musicians in the world and able to do what they want to do. After all, do you want an intern operating on you or a seasoned surgeon?) Whew!! Glad I got all that out of the way, aren't you?

Fellow fans of progressive music, please do us all a favor. UNITE!! DON'T PAY HEED TO THE THREE-STAR REVIEWS!! "Operation: Mindcrime II" is an excellent album and it deserves the attention of progressive music fans everywhere. And the sheer fact that it came along some 18 years after the original and is still coherent and excellent is even more astonishing.

We often hear of the "big four" bands of grunge music, those being Soundgarden, Nirvana, Alice in Chains, and Pearl Jam. (Love `em all, by the way.) I believe we can also speak of the big three bands of progressive metal, those being Tool, Dream Theater, and, yes, Queensryche.

The music on "Operation: Mindcrime II" is impeccable, as we have come to expect from Queensryche, and Geoff Tate's vocals are definitely not middle-aged sounding. This guy has one he** of a set of lungs. The unique lyrical rhyming is present as well. I defy the other (emphasis on "other") armchair critics here to produce something that is a fraction, a miniscule fraction, as creative and interesting.

While "Operation: Mindcrime II" might not be as memorable as the original, it is still more than worth owning and will make hard core progressive music/concept album fans happier than a kid in a candy store.

I conclude by explaining my 5-star rating. I feel that this album deserves four stars but I am so annoyed by the average three-and-a-half rating that I feel compelled to do what I can to raise the average. GO TEAM PROGRESSIVE!! RAH! RAH! RAH!

4 out of 5 stars When it Works it Works.......2007-04-16

I was not a fan until Empire so this whole Operation Mindcrime saga was new to me.

At least 5 of the tracks on this album are almost unforgettable

this includes:

Hostage
Speed of Light
One Foot in Hell

Geoff Tate's vocal's alone merit buying an album. even his uneven solo album had its moments. But when QR sings and plays about the challenges of mid-life and given any background into QR and the intelligence of their message (and any self-awareness) the only logical and emotional response is to buy this cd and crank it up - way UP.

5 out of 5 stars Great collection and just enough new stuff to make it even better.......2006-04-04

I have a problem with reviewers who probably have all of their favorite artist(s)' albums and go on record complaining that this song or that song wasn't on the "greatest hits" or "best-of" collection. I was a fan of Eddie Money's from the beginning, and was a little surprised to find that one reviewer thought his debut album was lame. I for one thought it was a super start to his career, with a couple of huge hit singles (the shorter single version of "Two Tickets" is even hotter than the album version...good luck finding it outside of eBay or one of those places you find in Goldmine that specialize in 45RPM singles only, if you find a copy of that one, it's worth your effort to track it down...if you're wondering, it isn't an edited version but a total remake with more guitars and more harmonies).

The additional tracks: Peace in Our Time, Stop Steppin' On My heart, Looking Thru the Eyes of a Child and the live version of Where's the Party are all typically radio-friendly Eddie Money tracks (that is definitely NOT a complaint) that show him in his element of being a rock-solid performer. His live shows, of which I've seen several, will put any doubt aside. If you have all the original albums these songs came from, the bonus material makes this one worth your money. I'm still a fan and it's all good.

3 out of 5 stars NOT WORTH THE MONEY..........2005-12-20

EDDIE MONEY-GREATEST HITS-SOUND OF MONEY: Regular Joe raspy voiced rocker Eddie Money (formerly New York cop Eddie Mahoney) is not given his due on this short summary of career songs. Although the basic classics are here, from the early RNB-tinted BABY HOLD ON and TWO TICKETS TO PARADISE to later high water marks TAKE ME HOME TONIGHT (a retro Ronnie Spector tribute featuring the sultry siren herself) and the steamy SHAKIN', too much CD space is given over to pedestrian "new" tracks and non-hits. Why his stellar second album CAN'T HOLD BACK (which featured choice efforts MAYBE I'M A FOOL and GIMME SOME WATER) was ignored in favor of PEACE IN OUR TIME and the misleadingly titled WHERE'S THE PARTY is one for the books. And why are the lovely TRINIDAD and his soulful take on Smokey Robinson's YOU REALLY GOT A HOLD ON ME nowhere to be heard here? If you're a true fan of Money (the man, not the moolah), you already have his best albums anyhoo, so do yourself a favor; fire up your CD burner and create a compilation worthy of his legacy. Just think of all the cute monickers you could apply to it...EDDIE MONEY'S TREASURE CHEST, EDDIE MONEY-GOLD, EDDIE MONEY-COP ROCK, etc., etc., etc. RATING: THREE BILLS

4 out of 5 stars Not Too Shabby Of A CD.......2004-08-14

This cd aint a bad buy for a casual fan, plus its cheap. But of course like most best of and greatest hits packages there is a shortage of songs."Endless Nights" should have been on here, and a few others. This was made before the newer hits cds that are out now with 15+ songs."Looking Through The Eyes Of A Child" would have been a big hit had it been a single...oh well i still love it.Maybe my favorite here. I crank it up in my car when i play it because of the good songs all here. With all the Eddie hits cds out there compared to this one there isnt much of a difference. With the exception of a few different songs.Which ever one you get you are sure to get the biggest hits first and foremost.

4 out of 5 stars One of the better Eddie Money compilations.......2003-07-28

Being only a casual Eddie Money fan, I picked up this cd years ago just to get the favorites that I would often hear on the radio. Recently I've been considering purchasing one of the newer compliations (last year's best of or the new Essential cd) in order to get a better range of his songs and also to get the remastered versions of some of my favorites. Having not listened to this cd in quite a while, I took this one of the cd rack and had a listen. Most of these songs are still great and still hold up today. Here's a song-by-song rating:

1) Baby Hold On - 5 stars
2) Two Tickets To Paradise - 5 stars
3) Peace In Our Time - 5 stars
4) Where's The Party? (Live) - 2 stars (poor attempt at an anthem-type song)
5) I Wanna Go Back - 5 stars
6) Walk On Water - 3 stars (okay song but I don't think this one holds up as well because it sounds a little too 80's-ish)
7) Shakin' - 5 stars
8) Take Me Home Tonight - 5 stars
9) Think I'm In Love - 5 stars
10) Looking Through The Eyes of A Child - 4 stars
11) No Control - 1 star (probably the worst song on the cd)
12) We Should Be Sleeping - 2 star (just feel this one is mediocre even though it is uptempo)
13) Stop Steppin' On My Heart - 3 stars (not terrible but not that great either)

Overall, this is a really good cd (if only Sony would remaster it but that's not likely considering the newer compilations) and is right up near the top of the list of the best Eddie Money compilations. As other reviewers have noted, none of these compliations have all the "essential" songs. I think I would have rather seen the 3 songs I rated as 1 or 2 stars replaced with other songs that were either bigger hits or just better songs like "Endless Nights", "Maybe I'm A Fool", and say "Gimmie Some Water".

4 out of 5 stars Best Money compilation.......2002-12-05

Not unlike Loverboy, there's several Eddie Money collections out there (many are pretty new too). This one is better than the 'best of' released last year. I wouldn't be surprised if this one goes out of print. I bought a tape of it 3 or 4 years ago just for the 'new' songs, but haven't seen it much since.

Pretty much all his bigger hits get fair treatment. "Baby Hold On" and "2 Tickets to Paradise" are the only good songs from his mediocre debut. His best album 1982s "No Control" gets 3 songs, the fun hard rock story of "Shakin", the upbeat happy rocker "Think I'm In Love", and that albums nearly as good also rocking title track.

1986s "Can't Hold Back" also gets 3 songs, the undescribably great Arena Rock of "Take Me Home Tonight" the nostalgic pleasant pop/rock "I Wanna Go Back" and the barroom hard rocker and underrated "We Should Be Sleeping". 1988s "Nothing To Lose" gets the big single, the feel-good uptempo very '80s sounding "Walk On Water". There's also 3 (than) new songs. The soft rock, serious, not typical Eddie song "Peace In Our Time" was his last big hit. The mid-tempo "Looking Through the Eyes of A Child" sounds a lot like his late '80s stuff. The uptempo, love going wrong "Stop Steppin' On My Heart" is one of my all time favorites.

On the downside, there's a live "Where's the Party" which is a waste. That's not a good song in any form, and the 1983 album of the same name is impossible to find, even used (but it may have still been in print when this was released). "Big Crash" "Maybe Tomorrow" and "Club Michelle" were all MUCH better songs from that album. Also "Rock and Roll the Place" from his second album, and the power ballad "Love In Your Eyes" from "Nothing To Lose" would've all been nice. But for what is on here, it's pretty good, get it while you can.

5 out of 5 stars Eddie Money's Best Album Ever.......2007-06-16

NO CONTROL is Eddie Money's best album ever, which is amazing, considering that it came right after the flop PLAYING FOR KEEPS. The songs here just plain ROCK!!!!! "Shakin'", "Think I'm In Love", and the title song show Money at the top of his game, making the Springsteen/Seger Heartland rock style, as well as the hard rock of Ted Nugent and Foghat, slightly more accessible to pop fans. This wonderful CD/cassette is one that no true 80s rock fan can do without.

5 out of 5 stars Eddie Money Rocks.......2007-05-16

If you're a child of the eighties, you can't help but appreciate the songs of Eddie Money. Listening to it brought back some great memories. This cd is a great addition to anyone that appreciates the memories of the 80's.

4 out of 5 stars MY FRIEND$, MY FRIEND$, It's Worth The MONEY!.......2006-09-04

Alright now, I'm doing a little stepping back in time reviewing NO CONTROL, Eddie Money's sharp, 1982, pink `n' black album which found his slim frame in a suit and tie and looking so....."money."

When Eddie's debut album came to my attention in 1978 due to the radio airplay of "Baby Hold On" [#11 in Billboard] I bought it but didn't spin it often. I thought most of the songs were too spare and unadventurous musically and that his voice was nondescript. I never purchased another Money collection until 1982's NO CONTROL, though I scarcely remember acquiring it because I was drunk that year. And the next. In truth, those first 4 years of that decade were the height of my partying life. I was living in a house (it's now a condominium) at 824 Bay Street in Santa Monica (just a block from the skateboarding Z-Boys former surf shop hangout). At that time, 824 had to have been the most consistently rowdy house in the greater Los Angeles metropolitan area. John Belushi and National Lampoon's `ANIMAL HOUSE'? Ha and pish! That was us when we were BEHAVING ourselves! We were THE LEAGUE OF SOUL CRUSADERS, and as Pooh said, "We drank. We drank a lot. We drank more than we did not." And yeah, you might have heard some of these hard-rocking Eddie Money tunes blasting from 824 back in the day...and the night. (Our neighbors loved us so much that the entire street signed a petition to send us packing. I guess they enjoyed our act to such a degree that they wanted to see us take it on the road.)

By 1982, Money had learned how to write a solid, head-banging hard Rock tune, and how to use that slight croak in his voice to maximum effect. The rockers on this set, starting with the great road tune, SHAKIN', are all fiercely guitar-propelled and rhythmically driving songs that had all of us liquidated bad boys breaking out the air guitars nearly twenty-five years ago. (We eventually grew up and changed.)

And that's something else I liked about NO CONTROL: Five years after that other Eddie had revolutionized the electric guitar and had every player emulating him with Van Halenesque "tapping", here we had Jimmy Lyon and Marty Walsh playing in the old Rock style - more sustain and distortion - and it suddenly sounded fresh and exciting again. And on DRIVIN' ME CRAZY, Tony Brock sits behind the drum kit. Tony Brock? C'mon, dude! He was the stickman for The Babys, and for my "money", one of Rock's more formidable and underrated drummers - in ANY OTHER BAND he would have received the attention he deserved.

I don't listen to Rock a great deal anymore; I graduated to the upper I.Q. of Jazz long ago. But every once in awhile - and especially after all my beloved Christmas songs at the conclusion of the Holiday season - I need to hear some fast tunes with loud guitars, and Eddie's NO CONTROL is right on the money.

Interspersed between the 80 mile-an-hour road runs on NO CONTROL, Eddie has some school zone ballads that drop us back down into first gear. Necessary I suppose for balance, but they suffer by comparison, seeming a little droopy. But the one great exception for me is MY FRIENDS, MY FRIENDS, which is really the principal reason I reacquired this album on compact disc. It's a wistful look back at the friends who made our old times so special and so memorable. It's a sad song made sadder by some truly mournful harmonica playing beautifully rendered by the Moneyman himself:

"My memories are happy / My memories are sad / But I love to take my pictures out / And see the things I had... / My friends, my friends / We never got together again / But I really do miss my friends"

THE LEAGUE OF SOUL CRUSADERS: Torch, Pooh, Twinkie, Cranium, Napoleon - it's me, Mr. Intense. I want you guys to know that I still take my pictures out and remember what we had. And I still love you guys.....wherever you are.

*Actually, I do know where my Brother, Napoleon, is. He's outside beating up the biker and his pit bull again. I can tell by the dog's whining and the biker's crying. I guess it's nice that one of us never grew up and changed.

5 out of 5 stars He's Got No Control!.......2002-05-26

When Eddie has time and is in the mood to write songs he is awesome at making it believable ! I think this was his best cd from the 1980's. Unlike "Can't Hold Back" from 1986 that featured more of his pop side "No Control" featured his rockin side! Every song rocked and had a true life story about him. "Shakin and Think I'm In Love" were the radio hits but other songs were just as good.. Take A Little Bit, Runnin Away and Hard Life also rocked and No Control was the story about the almost death of Eddie Money himself ! This was the true sound for which old Eddie Money fans will always remember him. He released many cds in the 80's but only 2 are left for purchase as "Where's The Party , Nothing To Lose and Playing For Keeps were left to run out of print.

4 out of 5 stars great street rock album.......2001-07-10

no control has many real life stories told! shakin is about a hot girl , think i'm in love rocks who hasn't said this? no control is a real rocker! runnin away and take a little bit as well as hard life all show eddie down and on the verge of making the huge comeback that he did! this cd still sounds great for being almost twenty yrs old! most of the songs on here are really the best of eddie money!!!!

4 out of 5 stars Get your Money's worth.......2007-05-30

After this outstanding debut, Eddie Money never made a recording that was as good or as consistent track to track. This album has really held up well over three decades and still holds a solid spot in the rotation. "Rock and roll the place" indeed!

5 out of 5 stars This debut and "Life For The Taking" ARE my Eddie Money Greatest Hits!.......2006-02-14

Sometime in 1976 a friend of mine had the oppertunity to attend a special live taping of "Eddie Money" for KQED television in a small area at San Francisco's Cow Palace. He asked me if I'd like to go see the taping with him.

"Eddie Who? Money What?" I asked.

Nope, we never went to that show! I think we decided that going to see a movie at the drive-in, which was practically next-door to the Cow Palace, with a couple of girls from school was a much better way of spending the evening.

Okay, I'm an idiot on both counts. We didn't get lucky at the drive-in with those girls...and we missed seeing Eddie Money perform before anyone knew who he was.

I remember hearing this debut album from Eddie Money for the first time. I was really blown away and remember liking it the very first time I listened all the way through. I was into much heavier stuff, but I also had/still have a soft spot for pop music disguising itself as "Heavy" rock. Money's albums aren't really "Heavy", but they do have a very hard edge and lot's of guitar work that could classify him, to some, as a "Heavy Rocker".

From his New York accented, sort-of-raspy, Cindy Brady-esque mouth movement style of singing, comes an unforgettable voice that till this day is a one of a kind. With the exception of maybe "Don't Worry", I feel that any of the tracks from this album could have been singles. If you like his 80's stuff, this may be a bit too...umm....RAW....for you. If you just want to hear a great rock record, then it'll be MONEY well spent.

This combined with his second effort, "Life for the Taking" is really all of the eddie Money I need. Anything after seemed to have been the record companies taking over and pushing the AOR bit for Eddie.

Every track on his second effort is also a gem...well, maybe except for the biggest single from that one. Anyone remember the track "Maybe I'm A Fool"? Eddie with a disco-styled song...Still, it does work. You won't find one like this in his debut effort though. His first two albums could have been released as a double set and they sound like maybe they came from the same sessions. (I remember seeing some of that performance from the KQED special and I think he did, "Gimme Some Water" live even before the first release.)

Doubts? Go buy it, listen and dare to write me and tell me it's not a great Rock record! I dare ya!

3 out of 5 stars Decent for his first album.......2005-07-24

Eddie Money's debut album features "Two Tickets to Paradise", and "Baby Hold On." Not bad having two hit singles from one album back in the late 70's. The above mentioned hits are the strongest tracks on the album, but overrall it's not a bad listen, but I'd go with his greatest hits instead.

3 out of 5 stars Nice debut..........2005-07-16

Nice debut album, with some cuts that have held up well... The cover of Smokey's You've Really Got A Hold On Me is the real gem on this release for me!

5 out of 5 stars Eddie Money's Debut Is Great.......2004-02-01

Eddie Money's self-titled debut album is a great piece of straight rock. Such songs as "Baby Hold On" and "Wanna Be A Rock And Roll Star" are among the songs that dominated AM radio in 1977. There are a couple of filler cuts here, but get this one, LIFE FOR THE TAKING, and NO CONTROL, and you have all the Eddie Money you really need.

5 out of 5 stars Best Eddie Money Album.......2007-01-03

I like Eddie Money for his hits, which this album contains. It also has a few others that are good, too. This is the best Greatest Hits Album for the casual listener.

3 out of 5 stars Question from a casual fan, for the true believers:.......2005-11-23

I would like to find on cd the "single" version of "Two Tickets To Paradise", which I have always preferred to the album version that's always played on radio. The single version is different from the album cut, not just shorter. Does the single version exist on cd anywhere?

My "3 stars" rating for this cd is of no consequence - I had to fill it in to post this.

4 out of 5 stars could've had more song's.......2005-08-10

just picked this up yesterday and like most of the other review's on here, i agree that, there should have been more song's added too this disc. they could have added for instance "stop steppin' on my heart". while eddie did have his fear share of hit's, i don't think there was really a need for a second disc, unless you're talking a complete career retrospect. all in all, this disc pretty much has everything you need, i just think there were a few more song's missing, that they could've filled the cd up with. i give it 4 stars. oh, and the sound is excellent.

4 out of 5 stars ALMOST ..............2004-09-12

Essential,yes-but not nearly as comprehensive as others in SONY's "ESSENTIAL" series. They missed the mark on this one, which is really a shame since a second disc would've delivered. In comparison to the three other hits collections, this is a step in the right direction. It'll suffice for now but, let's hope they get it right next time.

5 out of 5 stars Eddie Money's album/CD - Life For The Taking .......2007-06-08

Title track kicks ***. Eddie's vocals and Jimmy Lyon's guitar solo make for one of the all-time best rock tracks. "Gimme Some Water", "Can't Keep A Good Man Down", and, "Rock and Roll The Place", are all solid tracks. The track "Maureen" will have you snappin' your fingers and feeling good.

One of Eddie Money's best ever! This, and most of his pre-"walk On Water" material is a rockers paradise> Include his first C.D, No Control and you have truly the Best of Eddie Money

5 out of 5 stars A Second Great Eddie Money Album.......2004-02-01

LIFE FOR THE TAKING is Eddie Money's second great album in a row. It contains several great songs, but the standouts are "Can't Keep A Good Man Down" and the outlaw anthem "Gimme Some Water." A few songs are obvious filler, but there are enough good ones to make this a 5-star album.

5 out of 5 stars SO GLAD THIS IS AVAILABLE ON CD!!!!.......2003-10-19

When I look up music from this era, I never find it on cd unless its a "Super Group', believe it or not, I still have it on vinyl, bought when it first was released!!! And Eddie is the only guy to write a love song titled with my name, lol. I hated it as a teen, but now it is a honor, although I would not want my oldest girlfriends to serenade me again. Its a great album. Will definately get it on cd.

5 out of 5 stars Eddie still rocks.......2007-07-10

As an avid Eddie Money fan, it was a great pleasure to hear him re-make some of my favorite older songs. The songs that he chose on this CD are all gems. To see him and his daughter live on stage performing some of these tunes will give you chills - it did me. I see him in concert every chance I get.

2 out of 5 stars Out of the Money.......2007-04-08

Having been a big Eddie Money fan since his debut in 1977, I was excited to see him come out with a collection of re-makes from the 60's. On paper, I didn't think anyone could be a better choice for the great list of songs that he chose to cover. The bad news is, this CD sounds like outtakes from American Idol. His voice is detached, weak, and buried in the mix. I kept expecting the thin sound to open up, but it doesn't. To sum it up, great songs, poor execution.

3 out of 5 stars Good effort... but..........2007-03-22

Lacking in something.
Being a big Eddie Money fan I waited anxiously for this CD and finally got it. And then I played and listened to it.. twice, just to be sure.
The good points are... Great song choices, couldn't get much better than this selection for a rock revival. Great musicians and music. Decent sound, although I think a little tweaking would have worked here.
The bad point, for me, was Eddie's voice. I know it's not going to be as good as it was... and boy was it good! But for some reason it just doesn't work here.
'Land of A Thousand Dances' seems to be the standout here.. his voice, the music and background all seem to meld perfectly. On all the other tracks his voice seems to be 'seperate' from the music and background. Almost as if they were recorded seperately and then just layered and nothing else done.
I was a bit disappointed but still happy to know that Mr Money is still in the game. I think with better production this could have been a more polished gem and I do hope he gives it another shot in that direction. For having one of the stronger voices in rock, I think the man deserves better than this.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Release by a Legendary Rocker...........2007-05-02

Even though I didn't purchase this CD from Amazon (I actually bought my current copy of it back in 1992), this is DEFINITELY one of Eddie Money's greatest albums of all time. Just about every song on this CD deserved to be a smash hit -- especially "One Chance", where he drives the vocal tracks straight home with absolute heart-felt emotion and finesse. He also paired up with Mr. Mister's Richard Page and Steve George on this one, who had provided the background harmony vocals. I especially like the ending of "One Chance", where the full band is faded out and Richard and Steve's vocal tracks finish the ballad with "Can't let it go on this way...(CLAP!!) Gotta get out of the rain..." Each and every time I hear those lines at the end of "One Chance", the hair stands up on the back of my neck and it sends a quivering chill up and down my spine!

Aside from "One Chance", pretty much most of the other tracks here are classic songs by the Money Man. My favorite track of the hit list here is "Take Me Home Tonight", which is almost as hard-hitting as "Walk On Water" from 1988's Nothing to Lose release. The latter is also a good album to pick up, and I have a copy of it as well.

Anyway, if any of you are into that hard-driving, 1980s-style, power-ballad rock style of music then I would highly reccommend this album for your media collection. Besides, after getting to hear "One Chance" for the very first time back in 1989 (after getting my first cassette copy of this album), I once had this short-lived inner desire to meet Mr. Eddie Money. But that, of course, is nothing more than wishful thinking.

Until next time, rock on....

4 out of 5 stars Much more than the well-known Top 40 Songs released.......2005-12-14

Eddie Money's career got off to a solid start with his 1977 self-titled debut album, "Eddie Money". That album would produce two Top 40 hits that would become forever synonymous with Money's career - "Two Tickets to Paradise" and "Baby Hold On". Many attribute Money's success to his collaboration with guitarist Jimmy Lyon who would play a key role in the songwriting on that album. Following that album, Money's career would begin to go into a commercial tailspin as his follow-up albums "Life for the Talking" and "Playing for Keeps" would not follow the success of that debut album. Eventually, the partnership with Lyon would disintegrate. As the 1980's progressed, Money would release two more albums with little fanfare. Many would begin to think that Money would be one of those artists who would have his moment in the sun. So when Money would release his sixth studio album, "Can't Hold Back" - there was little hoopla surrounding the release of this album. When the first single from this album, "Take Me Home Tonight" began to ascend into the Top 10 and become his most successful single, it was considered a major surprise. The result would make "Can't Hold Back" Eddie Money's most successful album as it would produce another Top 40 single in "I Wanna Go Back". Overall, while it might be the success of the two singles that made "Can't Hold Back" Money's most commercially successful album, this album is also complete with a lot good music and is worth considering well beyond the two singles.

Eddie Money is a very good and talented vocalist. He has a very distinctive voice and that is a great part of his appeal. However, one thing I feel is a weakness on Money's voice is he doesn't have great diversity in his ranges. I don't feel this is necessarily a knock on Money, but it is just a fact. There are ten songs on "Can't Hold Back" - each of ten songs make good use of fitting Money's unique vocals on them. As for the songs, co-producers Money and Richie Zito deserve the credit for assembling a portfolio of songs that seem to work best. For each of the songs, outside songwriters were brought in. These songwriters might not be the biggest names, but there is some very good music and lyrics that come from them. I also think its valuable that Money contributes to the songwriting of 6 of the 10 tracks - even though he doesn't contribute to the two big hits from the album "I Wanna Go Back" and "Take Me Home Tonight". As mentioned, there is a lot of good music beyond these two singles - and it's a shame that many of these other songs were not released as singles.

Overall I'd classify this album as "Classic 80s" music (the sound of the early 1980s). I hesitate on putting this in the category of Synth Pop because I do feel there is a significant Guitar presence on this album that is prevalent on this album even though there are a lot of use of synthesizers. There are also several places where the use of the saxophone is incorporated into the music. In a lot of ways, Money can attribute a lot of the success of this album due to the fact that the "Classic 80s" sound was still popular during 1986 when this album was released. Following this album, the "Classic 80s" sound would give way to a much more natural sound focused around the guitar. Money would release a 1988 follow-up album called "Nothing to Lose" that despite sounding very similar to "Can't Hold Back" would not be as successful. I believe much of the reason is because by 1988, the music landscape was no longer receptive to that "Classic 80s" sound. I firmly believe that if "Can't Hold Back" would have been released two years later (in 1988) that it probably would have struggled commercially as well.

As mentioned the two big hits from this album are "Take Me Home Tonight" and "I Wanna Go Back". I believe "I Wanna Go Back" is the better of the two songs. "Take Me Home Tonight" is a nice song and Money's vocals are rock-solid, but I don't find it a very deep song. I also think that Ronnie Spector's small contribution "Be my little baby" was blown way out of proportion and is overrated. "I Wanna Go Back" has almost a "St. Elmo's Fire" feel to it. It's a very good song both lyrically and musically. I saw that another reviewer claimed that these are lyrics that many people can relate to - I couldn't agree more. This is exemplified in "What's been done has been done; What's been said has been said"

There are also many other standout tracks. These tracks include: "One Love", "Endless Nights", "One Chance", "We Should Be Sleeping", "Bring on the Rain", and "Stranger in a Strange Land". "We Should Be Sleeping" is probably the best song on the album. It has a great Rock/guitar edge and Money's vocals are right on target. However the best part of the song is the catchy chorus "Don't say bye bye bye baby bye bye" that will have you singing along. "One Chance" has less of a Rock edge and more of a Synth sound, but Money again delivers carrying the song with his most unique vocals and making the lyrics seem real. Overall, there are no bad songs on this album. I'd probably put the title track, "I Wanna Go Back" as the weakest, but even this isn't bad.

The liner notes include all of the lyrics and all of the songwriting credits. The lineup of musicians participating on each song is also listed. There is also a listed of production credits in the liner notes. Overall, this is a very good album - and one that is worth checking out whether you are a serious or casual Eddie Money fan.

5 out of 5 stars An Excellent Moment of Mid-80's.......2003-12-14

Eddie Money's 1986 album including his largest hit TAKE ME HOME TONIGHT is also one of all time favorite albums. It is a nice album to explore Eddie Money music further than his compilation. I bought this album when Take Me home Tonight just reached top 5 of the Billboard single chart. Now I like this album a lot more than I did in 1986 probably because this sort of well-crafted pop rock is hard to come by these days. Other than Take Me..., I like hard-edged WE SHOULD BE SLEEPING, power ballads such as I WANNA HOLD BACK and ENDLESS NIGHTS. It is recommended for mid 80's pop rock fans that love Survivor, Heart,Starship and John Cafferty.

5 out of 5 stars Great CD.......2003-02-21

I think this is a great CD by Eddie Money. My favorite song is Calm before the Storm. He has a great voice.

4 out of 5 stars Eddie goes more pop with a great album!.......2002-06-07

This was one of the first tapes I ever bought. I've been a fan ever since hearing "Take Me Home Tonight" on the radio when I was about 5. (I'm feeling old now!)

1) His biggest hit and an a rock classic. Very pop, but buried beneath the vocals, it still rocks. Should be the Designated Driver theme! 2) Lyrically simple mid-tempo album track with saxophone use. I like this now, but coming between my 2 favorite songs, I used to think it was boring. 3) The next best song, sax driven, but more upbeat. One of those 'stuck in your head' tunes. 4) Another minor pop/rock hit, like #3, but a little more ballad-ish. 5) I can't get into this, sounds uninspired. Very slow, but not a love song.

6) Hardest rocking song on the album, not the most original lyrics, but who cares. Sounds like it could've been on "No Control," but still fits in here. 7) A song about weather, again mid to slow tempo with no "excitement," what was Ed thinking? 8) Part rock, part power ballad; should've been released. 9) Rocking beat, but again not real guitar driven. Not great, but good. 10) Mid-tempo sorta love song, good album closer.

(I hope I haven't taken up anyone's full lunch break by this time) This is one of those CDs that have such good hits that the other songs tend to be overlooked. There's 5 killer songs, 3 pretty good, and only "One Chance" and "Bring On the Rain" are like elevator music (well, not quite).

Eddie's next album "Nothing to Lose" sounds alot like this one, even though it only had 2 hits, it was strong overall, a little more soft pop/rock based, but with a couple harder songs.
