Product Description
Digitally remastered import-only compilation featuring all of the greatest hits since the '70s, for both Warner Brothers & Capitol Records, by this sensational soft rock trio! No single disc U.S. compilation contains as many songs as 'The Definitive America' as this set includes all 12 of the smashes from their 1975 retrospective 'History/ America's Greatest Hits' ('A Horse With No Name', 'Sister Golden Hair', 'Tin Man', 'I Need You', 'Ventura Highway', 'Lonely People', etc.), plus 11 more, including the top 10 'You Can Do Magic'. Accompanying the 23 mellow gems is a photo-packed 24 page booklet with a comprehensive essay by Barry Alfonso (who has also done the liner notes for releases by Bread, John Cale, Eric Burdon & Captain Beefheart, to name a few). The tracks were remastered by Bill Inglot, who has done the remastering on many of the reissues released by Atlantic Records, including Charles Mingus, Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, Otis Redding & Rhino's 2000 box set for America, 'Highway 30 Years Of America'. 2001.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars This was a two disc collection at one time........2007-07-15

I bought this collection about 5 years ago. There were two disc included with mine; howerver, the remixes excluding "Walk Like Egyptian" are not the club versions I remember. They are extended versions, but nothing like the versions on their 12" Mixes cd released back in 1987. The sound was horrible on this budget release though.

The sound quality on these discs are superb. I'm not going to complain. The remixes were better on the 87' disc, but the sound quility really sucked. If you were lucky enough to get this two disc version collection, you hit the jackpot. It appaers this release is only available as a single disc now.

3 out of 5 stars The Most Complete Album From Bangles To These Days!.......2004-05-22

I bought this album 2 years ago and it has all their hits and includes a bonus cd with their remixes, I think I'm lucky to have this one because,as I read in other reviews today it doesn't have the bonus cd with the remixes, That's why I rated with 3 stars, now.

4 out of 5 stars No Second Disc-Buyers Beware!.......2004-02-21

The disc of remixes described in the editorial review is NO LONGER INCLUDED in this greatest hits set. On its own merits, this is still the best single-disc compilation available for this group, but don't buy it expecting to get a second disc of remixed rarities.

Buy it, instead, for every charting single the Bangles had--as well as Susanna Hoffs' sole Top 40 hit, "My Side of the Bed"--and an excellent selection of album tracks, and you'll be satisfied. (Then, if you still want more, pick up the Bangles' excellent reunion album from last year, DOLL REVOLUTION. With harmonies and jangling guitars intact, it was a solid return after 15 years apart.)

5 out of 5 stars Great mix!.......2004-02-02

This is a wonderful mix of many different Bangle's songs. It even has four from Susanna Hoffs' two solo albums. There are great hits such as Walk Like An Egyptian, Manic Monday, Eternal Flame, and Hazy Shade Of Winter.

2 out of 5 stars False Advertising.......2004-01-04

A friend just got me this cd from my wish list for Christmas. I really wanted it since based on the reviews, there were a bunch of extended remixes on it. I've got most of the other tracks already. However, when it arrived, it turns out it only contains one disc, not two. There are no remixed tracks. Just 21 tracks and not even in the same order as listed on the track listing on this page. Needless to say I'm very disappointed and I feel badly that my friend paid out nearly $20 for something I don't really need.

5 out of 5 stars Most of the good tunes + a nice extra disc.......2005-07-31

This is actually a 2CD set, at least this on version.

A nice spread that includes some lesser known works to round things out.

There's a plethora of comps out there for Carlos Santana.

This one dates to 1992.
That needs to be mentioned, because I see some reviewers, knocking older compilations , as there ain't no Supernatural.

So it all comes down to song selection - keeping in mind what year , or even era a given comp is from.

It sounds fine.

Looking for a different song selection.

Here's one !
