Album Description
Joshua is a pioneer in the field of world music, creating a synthesis of east and west. His music is perfect for both meditation and celebration. Sky Kisses Earth is a ticket to the ancient Tantric temples of India. Effortlessly, Prem Joshua blends the magic of Eastern music (Sitar, Tabla, Flutes, Santoor, etc) with transparent and modern Western sounds. These hypnotic grooves, fine textures and rich melodies will transport the listener to a cross cultural mythic land of golden radiance.
Customer Reviews:
Absolutely Fantastic fusion music!!!.......2005-11-15
WOW, WOW WOW!!!! Need I say more. I've never ever listened to anything so melodious and beautiful like Sky Kisses Earth. The music is amazingly soothing and absolutely fantastic. Several of my friends loved it. Would have given 10 stars.
Original, deep, very beautiful.......2004-12-09
I'm wary of europeans playing Indian music and raga fusion. It usually sounds fake. But, not this! It's a balance of East and West that works, and transmits a genuine expression of the heart. It has variety, sophistication and surprise.
A different flavor compared to his previous works.......2002-11-14
I purchased this album in Bombay, along with Mudra, and I noticed that both albums had a lot in common.
You'll notice a lot more use of keyboards, thanks to his collaboration with Manish Vyas.
My favorite track is the title track - Sky Kisses Earth. Starts off with harmonious voices blended with sitar and santoor and soon the beats kick in... like i said, a new flavor! However, his previous albums like Desert Visions and Hamsafar still remain unsurpassed as far as Im concerned, which is why I give this album a 4.

Customer Reviews:
Buddha Bar Specilist,.......2007-04-08
A beautiful collection of smooth rythms
a must for lounge
Check out opera to relax in this collection they have great stuff on cd
Hypnotic and soaring.......2007-04-03
As with all the other Budda Lounge CDs, this is an awesome mix of hypnotic and relaxing music. Unlike some music that's relaxing because it is lifeless, this is relaxing because it allows the mind and spirit to soar and drift in and out of reality. Beautiful.
not really "lounge" per se.......2007-03-15
This is a great new age, instrumental music disc but not really "lounge" per se according to the popular definition set by such things as Hotel Costes, Paris Lounge or Buddha Bar series.
FYI.
what was I thinking?.......2005-12-27
With so much instrumentation in global music, why laaaaaaaaay on that synthesizer? Track 10 was the only cut worth anything.
Not the Buddha Bar Series.......2005-03-03
Nice background music, but definitely NOT the Buddha Bar experience.

L. Rice.......2006-04-20
I have just recently started listening to this artist and have kicked myself many times wondering why I had not ordered his music prior to now. I ordered two of his CD's on the same day; Undercover and Hypnotic. They are the best and now I plan to purchase more. Amazon has been a great source for the music I buy and a wonderful tool for listening before buying. I love this CD, the music is so relaxing. I tend to listen to only jazz when I travel and this is a winner in my eyes(ears). Thanks Paul for the wonderful music you make. Add this one to your collection if you are a serious jazz fan.
awesome.......2004-05-29
Hypnotic is my favorite Paul Taylor CD. I have my own Paul Taylor collection from "Pleasure Seeker" to "Steppin Out". I listen to this a regular basis. Everytime I play this for a friend, they always want to know who is playing and the name of the CD. Paul is one of the great sax players of our time. My best friend from college turned me on to Paul Taylor after "On the Horn" was released. He has a unique smooth rhythum and funky beat to his songs that you can listen to for any occassion (driving down the highway, sharing with that very special someone or just wanting to relax after a tough day at the job). Paul keep on play your style of great music. But most important keep playing the same smooth style that has gotten you to this point in your career. I would love to see him perform somewhere in the North Carolina area.
Incredible Sax Player.......2003-04-29
Paul Taylor continues to shine with the release of Hypnotic. Paul's distinctive sound touches the soul like no other. His sax comes alive with a passion and freshness each time I listen. His previous releases, On the Horn, Pleasure Seeker and Undercover were excellent but Hypnotic exceeds them. I am eagerly awaiting his next release, "Stepping Out". If you haven't heard Paul's music, start with Hypnotic and I am sure you will have the others in short order
Sensual Rhythm.......2002-07-12
Fluid, sensual and rhythmic sounds make this selection by Paul Taylor exceptional. Make no mistake this CD has a theme that is clearly apparent from the first selection to the last. He is now an artist who's future music I can purchase "site unseen!" Congradulation to Paul, very few have achieve such an accolade....
Love to you and all your friends and mine. Play, Listen, Love and enjoy.
Sincerely,
Max
Hypnotic -Paul Taylor.......2002-05-13
About five years ago I first heard Paul Taylor while listing to a local smooth jazz station the cut was PLEASURE SEEKER.As soon as I could I purchased that CD,later I picked up ON THE HORN. UNDERCOVER is fantastic an with HYPNOTIC his music just seems to be getting better an better. I recently loaned HYPNOTIC to a friend who liked so much that she asked would I order it for her.I know it be awhile but I can hardly wait for next release.

Customer Reviews:
Haunting and beautiful.......2005-10-25
I had the priviledge to hear this music live and found it mesmerizing and challenging. Since I've bought the CD, and listened to it a number of times, the music has really grown on me. I think that it's terribly original but there are some beautiful repeated melodies that unify the albumn and remind me of early 20th century French composition, but then we get arabic rhythms and lots of other stuff without sounding too eclectic, at least to my ears. I've never heard anything like this, especially since there are influences from the Far East as well as Middle East and European. While the santur and oud are the central instruments, Basya draws upon the many talents of her classically trained musicians including Meg Okura (violin) and Daphna Mor (recorder). This is probably ideal music for taking your mind out of the present, if that's where you'd like to go.
Joyfully melancholic.......2004-11-06
Brooklyn born Basya Schechter, leader of the stellar Jewish roots world jazz band Pharaoh's Daughter, here delivers an all-instrumental album of great depth and spirituality. An oud player of uncommon accomplishment, she seems to have a natural affinity for this odd instrument's timbral universe, one which evokes sounds similar to those one associates with a lute, a bouzouki, a sarod, even a berimbau. It's an earthy, emotionally laden sound, one that wafts and slithers off desert sands like the cool even breeze that presages a precipitous nighttime temperature drop in arid landscapes.
One of the keys in making this music come alive is the playing of Alan Kushan on santur, an instrument that sounds like a cross between a zither, a koto, and a prepared piano, lending the aural palette a very oriental cast. Kushan makes this awkward instrument dance and sing with a deeply delved authority and weight. Also contributing mightily is percussionist Jerrod Cagwin, a player whom I've only encountered once before (and I just can't seem to pull up the context, although I remember him being a player of significance), but who here consistently establishes very evocative percussive underpinnings. And Meg Okura shines on violin. Add the coloration of recorder, trumpet, melodica, and cello, and you've got a wide and engaging sound canvas.
Rather simple sounding on the first couple listens, closer attending begins to reveal music of profound nuance and subtlety. There's also a kind of mesmeric, dronelike quality to this music that conjures up feelings of wisdom and tranquility achieved through great suffering. Certainly worth checking out by anyone at all attracted to mystical music of the Middle East.

Customer Reviews:
I can't believe no one else has written a review!.......2003-06-10
As a yoga instructor/musician, i am constantly seeking out music that moves and transports, centers and calms. I have heard all of Shaman's Dream's records, and this is my fave. The first track has one of the loveliest Shanti chants. I often use this CD in my classes, and it is fine to let it play without interruption, starting gently, slowing building into a steady rhythm, and then coming down easy. Shaman's Dream play frequently at trance-dance gatherings in Los Angeles, so they are well versed in what will move a listener, what will allow the thinking mind to fall away, what will evoke deep exploration. Craig Kohland is a master. If you like Gabrielle Roth, Anugama, Krishna Das, etc. or just Eastern music in general, i think you'll dig this.

Tunes such as Calcutta, Caravan, and Bali Ha'i are amazing and full of theremin-goodness, but much of the rest is good lounge music with the theremin as support. Fun, interesting, kitschy, but not as much a study in the theremin as one might hope.

Album Description
The dervish's whirling is a meditationcommunion and contemplationset to music; the calm center of a spiritual cyclone. Sufi Splendor: Music for Whirling Meditation captures the music that drives this resplendent and timeless practice. Serpentine ney (flute), melodic santoor, impassioned singing and ancient frame drum form a hypnotic rhythmic engine, building in intensity and carrying the listener to whirling ecstasy. Recorded in India's Ishvani Kendra monastery, Sufi Splendor: Music for Whirling Meditation features seasoned musicians, masters of the sema'a (Sufi ceremony), performing this irresistible music that propelled the original trance dancers. The Persian mystic poet Rumi, founder of the Mevlana Dervish brotherhood, wrote, "
Music uplifts the soul to realms above. The ashes glow, the latent fires increase: We listen and are fed with joy and peace." Immensely enjoyable for straight listening, truly indispensable for inner exploration, Sufi Splendor: Music for Whirling Meditation places the listener at the tranquil heart of that latent fire.
Customer Reviews:
Eh..........2007-05-11
This CD is okay, but I don't find it as transformative as I've found other Sufi music, which sadly I do not know the names of those artists. The singer has a lovely voice and the instruments are well played but it definitely did not put me in the required state for whirling meditation which I have experience elsewhere.
Sensual and uplifting.......2004-07-25
This wonderful CD combines the sensual beauty of the middle eastern rhythyms with the uplifting, entrancing spirituality of the chants. Each of the three long tracks builds from a simple beginning, increasing in tempo and passion. This is a wonderful CD for meditation, particulary active meditation (the whirling of the title, dance, etc.). I highly recommend it for anyone interested in Sufi traditions and/or middle eastern music.

8 years later, still one of my all-time favorite musical experiences..........2006-07-08
I was introduced to this band/album back in the summer of 1998, soon after it had been released, by a friend familiar with the music scene in Oregon. This album became one of my favorite albums of all time in the months to follow, and remains in my top ten today.
This is an album that must be played sequentially, and in total. It's like an experience; Robert Wynia's melodic yearning entrances you and pulls you in, tossing you about for 17 tracks and spitting you back out to process it all. The raw emotion that emanates from this disc is endearing and makes one want to devour the words that envoke so much feeling, pouring out of every member of the band, through every instrument and vocal. Peter Cornett's drum solo toward the end of "American Theatric" takes my breath away every time I hear it, even 8 years later. The desperation behind "The Invitation", a song about love lost, is raw and penetrating and easily captures a scary part that has existed inside many of us. Lyrics like those in "Endless I" and "Endless II" are so poignant and enlightening... this isn't a CD that can be taken lightly and played as background music. It is worth committing to for the entire journey.
#1 Floater Fan.......2004-10-09
Although, Burning Sosobra is the best album yet, this one is very, very close to being the greatest. His voice takes you to a mediphoric dream land. Great music to sing along to while driving. Very powerful. Great to paint and draw to. Very inspiring.
one you should listen to........2002-08-13
I am a native of Bend Oregon and I have been following floater for 6 or 7 years, and I am now 23 years old. I love all different kinds of music and floater is my absolute favorite! I love Angels in the Devils in the bone, and it definetly was a demonstration of their talent, as well as a show of their soul.Buy this CD or YOU MISS OUT!
Life without Floater..........2002-03-27
Since I've moved across the country, I've had to suffer without being able to see Floater live. I've had to depend on my CD collection. The East coast has never heard of Floater.
I highly recommend any and all of Floaters releases. If you find one, snatch it up, it's only a matter of time when the world knows who and what Floater is all about.
Floater, native of Washington, Oregon and California drives hard notes with symphonic tones to your very core. Supplying listening satisfaction to a wide range of listeners, I would suggest this band to moshpit dwellers as well as Floyd fans.
Personal favorite: The Sad Ballad of Danny Boy and Crawl to you from the Glyph CD.
Fourty Thumbs Up!
oh, those boys..........2002-03-16
So, here I was a nineteen year old girl standing outside a local venue that Floater was supposed to play at....From then one I've been hooked. Just like thier two albums before, this one is amazing. Although the sound has changed some what the idea remains the same, with each album telling a different story. Their style has grown into something all their own, a long with a following that you wouldn't belive. :) Thought, the whole CD is good, I'd have to say I like the latter half better. These three men are the most talented people I ever had the chance to meet. So If you ever get the chance to see Flaoter live, I suggest that you take it. I personally would recommend an accoustic show. It was the BEST Floater show I'd ever seen, and belive me I've seen a lot.
