4 out of 5 stars The ultimate trance cd.......2000-08-07

VDI you obviously don't have a clue what good trance is. I'm from Belgium, and here's where it all started. Belgium is the home of Trance and here this cd (and everything else DJ Taucher has released) is a CLASSIC. IMHO Nautilus is the best trance song ever. I highly recommend this cd and everything else by Taucher. BTW, I'm a DJ myself and I know what I'm talking about.

4 out of 5 stars This is Taucher classic.......2000-06-01

I did not want to review this CD because it is old, out of date for trance fans. But after checking the review by VDI I thought I say something. The reason why I rate this CD high is because not only I am a DJ Taucher fan but also this CD was good when it was released in 1995. At that time Taucher's debut album was considered awesome. There were no Ferry Corsten s' or DJ Tiesto s' or other currently popular superstar DJs like today that could match up with Taucher's class. I know there is better, much better trance music out there today but this is still a Taucher classic. I'm sure fans have noticed the evolution of DJ Taucher's music style from 1995 till present. Taucher is still awesome.

5 out of 5 stars Milky Way is nice.......2006-02-25

In response to one of the reviewers down there, BoA does have quite a nasal voice, but then again, i thin its unique, (if ur looking for nasal go straight to ayumi hamasaki!! haha).

      4 out of 5 stars Very good!.......2005-09-02

I love this album and many BoA's songs. In this album, I love "Tree" most. It beautiful but a little sorrowful. I also like "Atlantis Princess" but not very. However, this album is not so good as the albums before in my opinion.

      5 out of 5 stars Amazingly beautiful........2004-10-09

I feel that Boa truly shows what she can do vocaly, who she is, and where she comes from though this album. The song that stuck out to me the most was, "Tree." It's very natural, and Boa sounds amazing. Also, her English is incredible in, "The Lights of Seoul." If you want to hear what BoA is REALLY made of, I suggest getting this album.

      5 out of 5 stars Korea's Pride.......2004-05-13

I first heard of BoA a couple of months back when I was channel surfing. I saw her "Atlantis Princess" music video playing on a Korean channel and I was so hooked by that song that I couldn't get it out of my head! I don't even understand Korean but really, the song is so good. It's upbeat, catchy and her vocals compliments it so. My friend bought this album as she's a fan too and so I borrowed it from her and it has her personality stamped all over it. Some of the songs I really liked listening to is "Milkyway", "Tree" and "Endless Sorrow". If you're thinking that since she's Korean, all the songs here are in Korean don't fret as there's one song at the end titled "The Lights of Seoul" which is in English so keep that in mind before you judge. This girl is going to win the world over for not too long. She has accomplised a lot at such a young age and it won't be long till the whole world notices it too. I just hope that she sings more English songs so that she could accomodate international fans as well. She's up there, with all the other great Asian singers that I admire (Utada Hikaru, Vienna Teng...). If you're looking for something a bit out of the ordinary (Well, it's in Korean right?) and really infectious in nature, buy this album. Music can break down language barriers, that's for sure.

      1 out of 5 stars Terrible!.......2004-01-13

All I can say is that I cannot believe how bad she sings. she sounds like a cross between a baa-ing goat and a screeching cat.i think my ears almost bled after hearing this crap!!! I would give this -5 stars if i could.

It had a beautiful womans voice in it and I just want to cry when I hear it, excellent dance song if I could rate it highter I would!!!!!!!!!

5 out of 5 stars One of my favorite Wayne Shorter albums.......2006-09-25

Not sure why you would skip the first track like some reviewers suggest. Study the keyboard chart its Wayne's horn section writing arranged for keyboard. Brilliant. This is my favorite album over Joy Ryder and
Phantom Navigator which are in the same style of writing and instrumentation.

5 out of 5 stars Needs close listening.......2004-03-12

      I agree, skip tacks 1 and 4.
You might as well start with "The Three Marias", since it's the most catchy, albeit (finally) the least interesting tune.
Take time to listen to the last track, "On the Eve of departure". Listen to it a couple of times in a row. Follow each theme, in the fore- and back-ground. Impregnate yourself with the harmonies. slowly you'll realize that nothing like this has been done before. Then check out to the rest of the album.
This is the greatest, most innovative, most accomplished jazz composing since Duke ellington's suites and Thelonius Monk. Period.

3 out of 5 stars Wayne "jazz" fans: don't write this off without a listen.......2004-02-10

I'm writing this review as a counterpoint to the other two already here (which are a bit too sunny for confirmed jazzheads to want to take seriously, I'd imagine): to let fellow fans of Shorter's fabulous 60's Blue Note LPs, and work with the '65-'69 Miles Davis quintet, know that Wayne's later music, although much-maligned by jazz traditionalists, is not without its merits.

The polished production style, electric instruments, and lack of swing and jazz forms may well, on the face of it, put off real jazz listeners, who might be tempted to dismiss albums like _Atlantis_ as "smooth jazz" and wash their hands of it. Admittedly, the first track does not bode well. Its cheesy synths and glossy sound will be immediately off-putting to enthusiasts of Wayne Shorter's 60's acoustic jazz output. But it gets better.

I realized I had to check out some of this stuff once I heard the song "The Three Marias" on some compilation somewhere. Although the track opens itself up to the "smooth jazz" designation by its polish and form, I listened past it to the melody and what Shorter does with it. It's hard to describe, but the effect is very colorful, as though with each interval between the notes, new suggestions and dimensions are opened up. The music is spacious and adventurous in that distinctively Shorterian manner--don't be put off by the production-sound: it's good music. "The Three Marias" turned out to be representative of the rest of the tunes; most of the rest of the disc is on a par with its interest and creativity. Also, I think listening to this period of Wayne's music gives a lot of insight into what Wayne was doing with his recent live album "Footprints," which, while more stripped-down and acoustic in format, seems to draw its structural approach from the same ideas that are in play for this album.

Besides the first song, there's another track to be warned about, though: "When You Dream," which with its girls-choir fa-la-la-ing with ultra-corny lyrics, I couldn't get past even with an open ear. But after you program out tracks 1 and 4, you'll be fine. Worth a listen. Give it a shot.

      5 out of 5 stars MASTERPIECE.......2004-01-13

In my view, this is the most innovative and accomplished jazz album of the 80's annd beyond. This is no improvised, freewheeling jazz, but composed jazz that should be listened to like Bach or Beethoven, although it is extremely soulful and blues-inspired. This album was nearly unnoticed and misunderstood. The thing is that here the genius lies in the details. At each listening, it gets better- deeper, richer, more heart-wrenching and beautiful. This is because it's truely contrapunctal (multi-melodic) music- each little flute line in the background is a great song on its own.

5 out of 5 stars Wayne Shorter Still Sets The Pace!.......1999-10-17

This is a brilliant collection of music and project concept. The master speaks again - just ask groups like "Steps Ahead", "Yellowjackets", and numerous others... Or even, the countless contemporary groups who are still making their own careers playing the style of jazz that Mr. Shorter contributed to in the 60s. I am truly amazed when I hear fellow musicians and even some music critics attempt to catagorize THE Wayne Shorter as they would one of his many followers. If you are serious about what jazz IS; or even just your jazz recording collection - buy anything by Wayne Shorter, saxophonist, composer, arranger, and genius! Anything he says musically is valid... -clb
