wonderful.......2007-01-19
I like the 80's music. I had one of these same cds but something happened and it wouldn't work anymore. I was happy to see that you had it. Very happy. I am very satisfied - I love listening to it. Thanks!
Another GREAT CD.......2007-01-12
I LOVE 80's music, this is another excellent cd and you will not be sorry for buying it.
Pure 80's.......2007-01-10
This cd has 20 terrific songs from the 80's. Some from 1 hit wonders so it was fantastic to get them on one cd rather than having to buy multiple cds. Also, great to have a cd where I like all 20 songs.
A great 80s CD.......2006-07-12
i am a huge fan of 80s pop and rock and i think that anyone who loves 80s music would love this.
pure 80s series is hit after hit after hit.......2006-01-15

Customer Reviews:
80's nostalgia.......2007-06-11
Remember the 1980's, when all we had to worry about was nuclear war instead of rampant terrorism? Well, for those like me who grew up during that decade, this CD is an overflow of nostalgia. It contains some of the best songs of the 80's.
Songs like WALK LIKE AN EGYPTIAN (the Bangles), WALKING ON SUNSHINE (Katrina and the Waves), HEAVEN IS A PLACE ON EARTH (Belinda Carlisle) and I KNOW THERE'S SOMETHING GOING ON (Frida) are almost pure nostalgia straight-from-the-bottle.
For me, the 2 best songs are MANEATER (Hall & Oates) and HANDS TO HEAVEN (Breathe). MANEATER is the best song Hall & Oates ever wrote, and it also describes quite a few sadistic women I've met in my life. HANDS TO HEAVEN takes me back to the first time I heard it. It was in boot camp & was the first time they allowed us to listen to the radio. For a few brief moments I was able to in my mind get away from the United States Navy!
I've never cared for Huey Lewis & The News, but POWER OF LOVE is their best song & the song they're most known for. I like Pat Benatar, but never thought LOVE IS A BATTLEFIELD was one of her best songs. I would have much preferred SHADOWS OF THE NIGHT, but that's just my opinion.
The biggest gaffe on the album in my mind is Falco's ROCK ME AMADEUS. I never cared for it, even though I'm a big fan of classical music (including Mozart!). Never seemed there was much substance to it, and it's little wonder that Falco was basically a 1-hit wonder.
All-in-all, however, the majority of the songs on this album fit nicely for everyone who went to High School during the 80s. If you graduated from HS in 1980-something, give this CD a try!
AWSOME 80's MUSIC.......2007-05-12
If you like 80's music, then this is one cd you must have in your collection. The selection is good and the flow of the music is just right. As you listen to it it will bring back memories of those special moments back in high school.
Awesome 80's.......2007-05-07
This is a mix of some awesome 80's music. You will love it!
More Pure 80's.......2007-04-15
A good mix of great 80's songs. Since most bands from the 80's were one hit wonders (or really close to that), you get the music you love without all the extra "filler" songs you don't want.
Rock Me Amadeus.......2007-03-19
This is a nice compilation of the 80's, it's only essential for collectors like me because it contains 3 rare track versions.
The first one is the 4 munites and 4 seconds edit of "I Know There's Something Going On" which is now only available on Frida's album "Something's Going On" as bonus track.
The second song is Tears For Fears "Shout" that clocks at 4 minutes and 6 seconds which again is only available on the latest DELUXE re-issue of "Songs From The Big Chair".
The third and last song is Falco's rare "Canadian Version" (4 minutes and 8 seconds) which is an edit to the 8 minutes and 21 seconds of "Salieri Version" that was released on the US version CD of "Falco 3" by A&M records in 1985. However, I noticed many of you are trying to locate this song without paying big $$$ for the long deleted Falco 3 CD and you can only find it on 2 CDs, one of them is Falco 'Hit Singles' released by Warner in 1998 again now it's out-of-print (try Amazon Germany for a cheaper second hand) and the other one titled "I love Techno Pop vol.2" which is still in print only in Spain and by the way an awesome compilation of 12inch hits, you can find it and buy it at Blanco Y Negro official website.
Anyway, a must for hardcore fan of the 80's.

The aim was to do for country what Saturday Night Fever did for disco. The result was that bars from Kona to Kalamazoo suddenly had mechanical bulls, and slickers walking around in cowboy hats. You might also pinpoint this as the moment in time when "country" music suddenly went cosmopolitan, paving the way for Garth Brooks. Johnny Lee's "Lookin' for Love" was one of the decade's biggest singles, and this album briefly made a star of Mickey Gilley (whose Texas club provided a home for that alpha bull). Fans of Bob Seger, Jimmy Buffet, the Eagles, Dan Fogelberg, and Bonnie Raitt may want this collection for the tunes they lack elsewhere. And it sure recalls an era. But please don't call it "country." --Bill Holdship
Customer Reviews:
Where were the good songs?.......2007-05-21
I love this movie, and I like the songs on this soundtrack, but, there are some songs that were in the movie that realy need to be on the soundtrack, but, they, for some reason left them out. Such as the intro song, "Texas", by Charley Danials. But, overall, it is a good album.
you made my day........2007-05-14
I have the music on 8track but, haven't been able to play it for years, no 8 track player. Now the music is back. Good customer service.
Great Service.......2007-03-16
Love the sound track of this movie. Takes me back to my
younger days!! Some really good memories! Thanks!
Urban Cowboy Music Lover.......2007-03-10
at last I found my Urban Cowboy music... love the movie and the music
Very Very Good.......2007-02-12
I'm not a country music fan in the least. But I saw this movie at least 3 times and it was superb. I thoroughly enjoyed the music. There are several good artists on this soundtrack like Dan Fogelbert, Bob Seger, Anne Murray, The Eagles, Johnny Lee. Charlie Daniels, Kenny Rogers and a few others. Every song on this ST is excellent. Even if you're not a country music fan like myself, this is one good CD to have in your collection of movie soundtracks.

Great for the road.......2007-05-11
I found this to be a nice collection of favorites, especially to keep in the car and listen to. It is a variety of well known compilations. Although not encompassing, it is perfect as a review for driving, relaxing, and enjoyment. Plus, the price is right!

[...] Honestly, it isn't THAT THAT great, but its good enough for its price. I'd say that your $ pays off, for a while. I've noticed how after a long time, it gets aggrivating at times. No harm meant, "Beethoven lover". I just mean don't plunge into this cd with all the hopes in the world. Besides, it's just my opinion, so you may like it more than me. All i can say is; a) listen to some samples before you buy, b)know this is not REALLY the great Beethoven himself, and c) enjoy YOUR music, whatever it may be.
Great Price...Not so good itself.......2005-05-19
This a great priced cd, but the content is why it is so cheap. It's a true-amateur album. Beethoven Lover is over her/his head. This is the real world, not a fantasy-everyone-likes-every-type-of-music world. Deal with it and agree with me. It isn't so great.

PRICELESS!!!.......2007-06-23
The songs"Sailing"and "Never Gonna Let You Go"are worth the price of the entire album itself!!I listen to"Sailing"and nearly fall asleep, just envisioning, spending an entire summer, escaping lifes' hardships'sailing peacefully, through the Great Lakes, watching the sun glistening, off the waters' surface...."Never Gonna Let You Go"is a beautifully INTENSE and heartfelt love song!!Sergio actually takes a backseat(in my eyes)to whoever that husky/sexy-voiced woman is that he's singing with/to!!! This song is so"alive"with sincere passion, that I routinely play it at LEAST 7 times each day!!Actually the ENTIRE album is WONDROUS,so,I simply expounded on my two FAVORITES!!Everybody should own this disc!!When you get it,you can basically break of the "forward"button on your disc player, while you're playing this gem, cause it's HIT after HIT from the first track to the last!!
This Brings Me Back..........2007-01-24
I've been searching for a CD to add to my collection of all those love songs that I remember from middle and high school. My favorite song on this CD is Sergio Mendez' Never Gonna Let You Go, which was the first song I ever slow danced to as a teenager. If you are looking for a single CD to bring you back to a time when you had your first slow dance, your first kiss, or your first girlfriend/boyfriend, then this one is for you.

Amazon.com essential recording
Otto Klemperer's Beethoven is one of the towering achievements in the history of recordings. By today's standards, these performances are hopelessly old-fashioned: dark, heavy, and frequently very slow. But they are also the grandest, most unsentimental, most purposeful versions in the catalog. In addition, the relatively slow tempos (only in the fast movements--the slow ones are pretty swift) and forward wind balance permit more detail to be heard than in most original-instrument performances. At budget price and with the entire piano concerto cycle thrown in for good measure, this is greatness incarnate. --David Hurwitz
Customer Reviews:
Great Performance.......2007-07-07
There are many different ways to perform Beethoven and each one is valid.
If you like it fast - go to Toscanini or Norrington. If you prefer slow, powerful and majestic, this is your set. Towards the end of his distinguished career, the great Otto Klemperer set down his final views of the performance of these symphonnies. The set is a coherent whole and will give great pleasure for ever. The challenging mix of the young Barenboim and the aged Klemperer worked surprisingly well and thus the concertos may also be recommended. There are odd additional items which add to the pleasure. Finally do not forget to purchase his memorable set of 'Fidelio' to complete your traversal of a great conductor giving great performances of a composer that he loved. Finally the price is ridiculously low and provides quality and quantity at a great price. Thus you should be able to buy the opera set from the savings made!
Great Analog Beethoven Cycle.......2007-05-07
This Klemperer cycle is just one of a dozen or so GREAT analog Beethoven symphony cycles that were recorded during Analog's golden age starting about 1958. These cycles are easily a match for digital and they should still be around for another 1,000 years, if the Lord tarries. These sets include: Karajan (twice, early 60s and late 70s) Bohm, Krips, Jochum, Bruno Walter, Leinsdorf, Rene Leibowitz, Szell, Ormandy, Bernstein, Steinberg, and Solti. This morning I listened to the Klemperer recordings of Beethoven's symphonies 5, 6, & 7. Very enjoyable, I got my Beethoven RDA fix.
Of all these Analog sets, I most enjoy the Leibowitz Spring 1961 cycle with the Royal Philharmonic. I have this cycle on an audiophile early 90s European import Edition Phoenix label special pressing "on extra virgin vinyl." These are by far the best analog symphonic lps I have ever heard from a recording standpoint. BY FAR! And they will rock your house.
You can almost justify Karajan's 4 recorded Beethoven cycles and one video based upon improvements in recording technology. Thru Rhapsody, I have listened to his mid 50s cycle and the orchestra sounds great, but the recording quality is sub par compared to Analog's golden age. So the rational for 4 cycles would be, (1) recent great improvements in recording technology (early 60s), (2) it has been 15 years and he has grown as an artist (late 70s), (3) we now have digital! Let's do one of the first Beethoven digital cycles (80s).
Klemperer is a no-brainer. I do not have to think twice about plopping one of his lps onto my turntable or hitting the play button at Rhapsody. When the music starts, the listening pleasure begins. Don't miss his Bruckner symphony recordings!
An essential collection.......2007-04-25
How best to describe Otto Klemperer's perspective on Beethoven's symphonies: grand, heroic, intense, insightful, stubborn, obstinate, detailed, dramatic, monumental, granitic, deeply emotional, never sentimental. This boxed set of the complete symphonies and concerti embodies all of these elements as stands as one of the great achievements of recorded music.
These performances were recorded with the Philharmonia Orchestra at its peak, in the sumptuous acoustics of Kingsway Hall in London and in fine and detailed sound, and mostly in the mid-1950's during one of the brief charmed periods of Klemperer's life. EMI's impresario Walter Legge had made him permanent conductor of the Philharmonia, and when Klemperer embarked on this project in his 70's, he was in relatively good mental and physical health (Klemperer could show symptoms of manic depression and survived many health crises - brain tumor, broken bones, paralysis - which would have stopped most people).
By this time Klemperer had slowed the tempi of the fast movements of the Beethoven symphonies (listen to his early 1950's recordings of the 5th and 6th on Vox to hear by how much). This tendency is more pronounced in these studio recordings than in the live performances which were recorded during that era. The slowness is mostly saved by Klemperer's use of "sprung" rhythms, which keep the slow tempi from feeling laggardly.
Klemperer's earliest recordings in this series - symphonies 3, 5 and 7 - predate stereo and were recorded in excellent monaural sound. He rerecorded all three of these symphonies in stereo, but those recordings were made after he burned himself by falling asleep while smoking in bed. All three performances feature slower tempi than the earlier ones (whether this was the conductor's preference or the result of physical incapacity is open to conjecture). In particular, the rerecorded 7th suffered from lax phrasing, inattentiveness and perverse tempi. That is NOT the version contained in this set: fortunately, EMI had simultaneously recorded the earlier version of the 7th in "experimental" stereo, and it is that earlier version which is released here (and in remarkably good stereo). The versions of the 3rd and 5th are the rerecorded stereo ones.
You will find no finer studio versions of the 2nd, 4th, 6th, 7th or 8th. All are insightful, beautifully detailed and powerful. The 2nd clearly looks forward to the 3rd and not back toward Hayden, the 4th is boisterous and vital, the 6th bucolic and sumptuous (not a quality normally associated with Klemperer), the 7th gains in drama what it loses in swiftness and lightness, and in the 8th in particular we see the conductor's empathy to Beethoven's sense of humor. Klemperer had a deep affinity for the "Eroica", and the rerecorded version here, while slower than the 1955 recording, was dubbed by "High Fidelity"'s Harris Goldsmith (no Klemperer fan, he) as "the best Eroica going slow" and is a monumental masterpiece (the second movement is shattering). The 1st, while leisurely, is a lovingly crafted.
That leaves the 5th and 9th. There is no doubt in my mind that the earlier, mono 5th is superior to the remake in this set. We lose that sense of an inevitable onslaught, especially in the outer movements. And the 9th, while similar in conception to the live versions recorded around the same time (on Testament with the Philharmonia and on Music&Arts with the Concertgebouw), suffers from diffuse sound and occasional lack of focus. I emphasize that these recordings of both symphonies are still head and shoulders above most of the competition; we're talking about different levels of greatness here.
Are there superior Klemperer recordings of these symphonies? Yes; but all are live, and despite the relatively good reprocessed sound, they don't reveal the same level of detail that these studio recordings do. Klemperer was a very different conductor in front of an audience, and there is more vitality and drama in the live versions of the 3rd (Testament, with the Danish Symphony), 6th 7th and 8th (Music&Arts with the Concertgebouw) and the 9th (see above). Music&Arts' set of the complete symphonies, recorded live in Vienna in 1960, is long out of print and had cramped sound with poor detail - a supplement to this set, not a replacement.
As to the piano concerti: they are better than one might expect. Barenboim, although steeped in the Germanic performance tradition, is more naturally aligned with the Furtwangler and Edwin Fischer than with Klemperer. However, the two of them actually work together extremely well and this is a fine, insightful set.
Any complete cycle of Beethoven, symphonies or concerti, will have drawbacks. There will be unevenness in the performances, as there are here. But there are advantages to hearing one musician's perspective on the works, especially when (as here) the performer has depth of understanding, integrity of vision, and a structural understanding of the pieces.
The digital remastering is excellent and the sound barely shows its age. This may not be your only complete set of Beethoven's symphonies, but it should be one of them. And at a price this low, it's a bargain too.
The best value in classical music on CD at the moment..........2007-01-02
What is the best value in classical discs available today ? Who knows, but I defy anyone to beat the EMI compilation of Klemperer' recordings of the complete Beethoven Symphonies, Piano Concertos (with Barenboim), several overtures the Choral Fantasia etc etc. 9 discs for only $44 ( well that was the price I paid). You have got to be kidding... I only had two concerns with buying this. First on the age of the recordings, all more than 40 years old. No worry at all. This is a masterpiece of reconstruction. The sound quality indistinguishable from any modern recording. Secondly , the performances themselves. I had been warned that Klemperer notoriously chose rather slow tempi. Again I needn't have worried. I immediately went to the slow movements of the 2nd piano concerto and the fourth symphony, where many slow tempists have in the past come unstuck. The piano concerto was an absolute revelation. The combination of the youthful Barenboim and the Philharmonia's masterful playing time and gain had me on the edge of my seat. " Yes,go on, well...." Slow it may have been. Boring, never. The same applies in spades to the slow movement of the fourth. Right from the eerie opening, which is yes, very slow indeed, I knew this movement would be a revelation and I can honestly say I have never hear it better played. Follow this with a scherzo bounding in energy and thumping finale and you will never get a better performance of this, one of Beethoven's "lesser" symphonies. And I haven't even got round to the "biggies" yet! The box set looks unattractive and the portrait of Klemperer makes him appear a first class nerd. Pay absolutely no attention to this....
Wonderful Performances.......2006-04-07
I have admittedly not made it through the entire set as of yet, but feel sufficiently blown away by the First Symphony and the Eroica - particularly the second movement of the latter - to weigh in here. With respect to the tempo issue, I must - at least so far - argue in favor of Klemperer's decision to slow things down a bit. I think the effect is, as someone else has observed, a clearer and more visceral experience of Beethoven's composition. It brings out the feeling. The sound comes up a little short on the low end, but it isn't a major distraction. My only problem lies in EMI's inexplicable lack of any discussion of the performances. The notes are bland, dry descriptions of the pieces themselves, with some basic history thrown in. Given the fact that there are probably hundreds of different CDs of Beethoven's symphonies out there, all with similar explanatory notes, it is infuriating that nothing is said about these particular performances. This is in contrast with the EMI Bach set (with Yehudi Menuhin) in which there is a wonderful essay that discusses Menuhin's work in historical context.

New Age music, ambient electronica, and spiritualized hip-hop received their first major, K-Tel-like treatment in 1996 when Virgin Records assembled Pure Moods. The "As Seen on TV" compilation quickly became a hot seller, and it would be nice to think that its popularity has as much to do with the music as the marketing. To be sure, Pure Moods offers genre hits aplenty: from Enya's "Orinoco Flow" to "Sadness" from Enigma; from a dance mix of the "X-Files Theme" to edits of vintage electronica from Mike Oldfield (Tubular Bells) and Jean Michele Jarre (Oxygene). Beyond other selections of beat-enhanced chants and a few other popular themes ("The Mission," "Twin Peaks"), the album, refreshingly, also includes a few selections noteworthy only for their originality and quality. A three-track section near end of the 70-minute disk features affecting soft African chants from Geoffrey Oryema, followed by "My Wife with Champagne Shoulders," a dollop of regal, faintly ethereal romanticism from master film scorer Mark Isham, then a robust piano workout, "The Promise" from Michael Nyman (The Piano). With so many elements of interest on its 17 tracks, the album's broad diversity is sure to have broad popularity. --Terry Wood
Customer Reviews:
A classic.......2007-06-14
Great compilation of electronic music for it's time. A lot of depth to it, you don't get to the 5th or 6th song and start getting into what seems like "filler".
Classical relaxation.......2007-05-20
I loved the music on here they are so peacful like the xfiles theme tubular bells with the overy babbling melody and crockettes theme which was the best song with no vocals and they saved the best for last LILY WAS HERE with excellent non vocaling music with lite accoustic guitars and perfect saxaphone playing with a touch of soothing melody. My mothers into spiritual things mostly and she loves this pure moods mix of peacful music. I use to listen to this while I sleep I loved it but now I sleep with the fan on because I love to hear the sound of the fan while I sleep.
New Age as a child? Really?.......2007-05-17
I must have been around six or seven when I came across this cd through the TV ads. I couldn't buy it myself but I loved the music. It wasn't until I was much older and borrowed it from the library did I remember how much I loved this. I uploaded some of the songs onto my computer, only because I had downloaded some of them already. I started listening to the other pure moods and it's still the same.
Flowing music between ambient, new age, and soft electronica it pulls up its own forrest of emotion as it pulls you closer into the center of yourself. YOu find those pieces of you again that you haven't discovered. A must have for anyone wanting to get in touch with themselves, or just don't know how to relax after a hard day at work.
The Sway.......2007-05-16
I must admit, I've always felt kind of silly for owning this CD. Yet it's got wonderful songs on it. Each one sets a tone that carries you throughout. I've had this CD for years and I still pull it out and listen to it.
oldie but goodie is the pharse.......2007-01-16
I use to listen to this cd over and over when I was younger. Happen to run across it in a packed away box. Been listening to it for two months now, love it just as much as when I first gotten it. Matter of fact, after my teenager heard it, he had to have a copy for himself. Lucky, amazon sells it. He loves it just as much as I do.... surely a favorite.
I did checked out the other pure mood cds and they are ok, a few good songs on them but I dont think it can compare to the very first one put together. Every song is amazing.
If you like music with a little color, not to strong, not to weak, but very lovely to hear...recommend this one.

A collection of well-known pop tunes, this record documents those ubiquitous tracks that have been played into the ground at nearly every sports facility in the country. Most, like "Whoomp! There It Is" and "Hip Hop Hooray," are undeniably catchy, and other tracks were downright splendid when they first appeared on the scene. Some even credit "Pump Up the Volume" with being a breakthrough for the electronic music scene of the late '80s and early '90s. Still, bringing musical innovation to light is not what the makers of this recording had in mind. It's all about the trashy glitz, fleeting glories, and mindless greed of late-20-century American sports. Revel in its dubious charms, and risk having your brains turn to mush while a permanent grin takes over your face. --Matthew Cooke

A trip back..........2007-05-05
I first heard this mix only very recently, in a long cab ride, and begged begged the driver to let me buy the disc from him. He refused, but let my friend run into his apartment and upload it into his iTunes. I have since bought the disc, and love it soooo much. It's upbeat, loads of fun, yes, great for cleaning the house to. But really, it brings me back to the days of middle school, going to school dances and buying cassette singles with my friends on the weekends...just being care-free and being a kid. I had been feeling nostalgic for those days lately and this disc captures my youth perfectly!
Great for Fitness Classes.......2007-01-26
I'm a PE teacher and my students LOVED doing circuit training to this CD. Every song is super upbeat. It really helped get my classes motivated. I wouldn't buy this CD for general listening music but for fitness it's definitely my favorite.
Have some respect........2006-08-07
This is not music. Have some respect. If you like this you are probably an idiot jock who thinks the middle east is somewhere near Kansas. Please America, wake up.
Whooooooooooomp! Here's the review!.......2005-12-20
Tell-Tale Bonanza's back again!! I'm a total jock if you already didn't know, my resume speaks for itself. This cd is not only great for sporting events, but works well at any social gathering. There's just something that is beautiful about seeing Lupus Fury do the tootsie roll. Let me tell you a little bit about Lupus Fury. You may be wondering how he got such a nick-name, well let me break it down for you... Lupus- is latin for "Wolf" and we all know that he's hairy like a wolf, and stinks like the Cumberland river. Fury- anger, violence, rage. that sums him up right there, the man has 8 restraining orders, and is a registered sex offender (we still laugh about that to this day) So now we know Lupus, a hairy wolf like angered man, don't get near him during a full moon either, he might hump your leg, but he gets more action than teen wolf (thanks to me). Our parties are just a big spectacle, we really do put on a show. When the song "You're Unbelievable oh!!!" comes on,Big Frank will put on a gymnastic routine that will leave you wondering why he wasn't on the olympic squad in 96 (steroids). Chubby Lou is in charge of running the party (there's never a shortage of cheap booze and hot pockets) and doubles as the bouncer, you don't wanna catch one of his famous DDT's, little-known fact, Chubby Lou used to be an amature wrestler (they said he was too fat) and had a stint as Barry Horrowitz tag team partner in 88. Cheese Grits doesn't really have any talent, we just thought he had a cool name so we let him in the clique, but he can juggle, so we get him tanked up and make him juggle by the end of the cd we circle around him and sing along to gary glitters "duh nuh nuh nuh nuh HEY!!! duh nuh nuh nuh!!!!" and so on, he has a look of terror on his face, but it's totally worth it. by that time we settle in, and there's about a 10-3 girl to guy ratio, some of us score real big, whoever is lucky enough to make it to my room, gets to personally here "Gonna make you sweat" by C & C Music Factory. Now that you see the power that this cd holds, I hope you would go and buy it (or steal it from your P.E. teacher, like I did).
Fun for the gym.......2005-08-29
Jock James is a great fun CD, no seriously well written music but come on it has at least three songs with the word PUMP in them. What a fun album!

God bless punk and new wave. Without them, '80s pop music might well have ended up as vapid and ghettoized as, well, pop music of the '90s. Those late '70s movements were frankly reactionary at heart (seeking to counter what was perceived as the overwrought tendencies of rock's prog and hard-rock elite and calling for a return to the diverse energy of '60s Top 40), but their influences can be felt on nearly every cut of this triple-disc hits anthology, from the Buggles' all-too-prophetic "Video Killed the Radio Star" to the nouveau funk of Kool and the Gang, the Dazz Band, and the Gap Band, to the nascent big-hairdom of Night Ranger ("Sister Christian") and Whitesnake. If you're looking for the roots of alternative rock or obscure college playlist fodder, look elsewhere; this is prime-time '80s pop chart glory, as seen on MTV (over and over and over). Though the songs here cover a breadth of style and genre (if not necessarily substance), there's a remarkable unity of purpose and hook-laden musical accomplishment that's sorely missed. If this collection woefully shortchanges hip-hop, it still underscores a distinctly irony-free era where style admittedly triumphed over substance, as opposed to the '90s, where style caricatured substance. --Jerry McCulley

I love the 80s!.......2007-01-15
This boxed set has all of your favorites from the 80s. I bought it for my sister for Christmas and we listened to it over and over again on New Year's Eve and beyond. Every song brought back a memory from the "old days" and made us smile. What a great way to start the new year!
Gotta Have My 80's.......2007-01-12

I luuuuv some of these songs, but some of them suck. hoever, if u like these songs u should totally get it!
essential.......2005-09-16
I mix 80s dance music and the number of times when mixing that I find myself reaching for either this compilation or its companion, "Hit Me With Your 80s Box," is extraordinary. These are two outstanding collections. They are pricey, but worth every penny. For many people, owning these two will be all the 80s music you'll ever need.
Fidelity is outstanding, the tracks are well organized more or less chronologically, and the sequences in which tracks are placed is excellent. The "box" itself in which the 3 CDs come is sturdy, it is easily folded out in part or in whole to access any of the CDs quickly and easily (unlike many multi-CD offerings). Liner notes are extensive and interesting.
This offering is a class act all the way. Highly, highly recommended. 7 stars.

Beware...this ST doesn't include any of Elmer Bernstein's magnificent symphonic score!.......2007-07-02
I've been looking for another recording of Elmer Bernstein's grand music called the "symphonic score" from HEAVY METAL that I once had on vinyl but lost in a house-fire. Does anyone know where I could find it perhaps on compact disc?
An icon of early 80's hard rock.......2007-06-10
We all have guilty pleasures, and for me the Heavy Metal soundtrack is one of mine. It is not "metal" of the current genre; it marks a step in the evolution from Deep Purple to Metallica. It rocks in a time before the compact disc. It is the height of FM radio, vinyl, 8-track tapes and cassettes. It comes from a time after disco and before new wave. It comes from my youth, so I am biased.
One of the things I appreciate in the album is that it is incredibly well balanced between the hard (Hagar, Riggs, Nazareth, and Black Sabbath), the soft (Felder's "True Companion" and Stevie Nicks' "Blue Lamp"), guitars (Hagar, Nazareth, Riggs, and Trust), and keyboards (Felder, Journey, and BOC), but there are strong vocals throughout. For sure I have my favorite tracks, but, IMO, there is not a weak track on the whole album. Some people may think that the Journey ballad or Felder's "True Companion" are out of place, but when taken in the context of the movie, they are as essential as the title track. It is one of the best road trip albums ever released.
This album is not "metal". Some of the bands are the precursors of the metal genre, but this album makes no pretense of being metal. The name comes from a movie released in 1981 that was derived from a magazine of the same title. The album is firmly within the hard rock tradition. If you only want metal, this is not your CD. However, if you are open to, or enjoy, hard or classic rock and want to listen to an iconic example of pop culture from the late 70's and early 80's give "Heavy Metal" a listen.
Heavy Metal: Music From The Motion Picture.......2007-05-12
I had been wanting this CD for some time and was happy to find it here. I received my order in great time and good condition. I am happy with the product and would reorder again in the future if I found something I was llooking for.
The Music DOES make the movie.......2007-04-15
I saw the movie when it came out, and a few times on cable over the years, and loved it. So when the DVD came out, I bought it. Major disappointment!! Apparently, the idiots who made the movie failed to secure the rights to use the music in the DVD release. The bland and generic rock they used just killed the film. So- I bought the soundtrack.
It's just as great as my memories! As I listened to Hagar's "Heavy Metal", I realized it was the music that made the film. Without it- the movie is flatassed boring.
Now- I just watch the DVD without sound and que the soundtrack at the appropirate moments. It works.
A Blast From The Past.......2007-02-14
