Album Description
Recorded by Glenn Brown and Patrick Boyer in the winter of 2000, Children Take Your Shoes Off showcases the diversity of the band with 13 tracks ranging from 10 minute improvisational jams and hard driving bluegrass pickin' tunes to quiet waltzes and traditional folk tunes. The debut album mixes live shows with studio tracks and features special guests from local bands such as The Lash, Half Looking, The Weepers, Pub Domain and Grand Rapids Slim and the Murph-tones.Customer Reviews:

New versions ... unlike the originals.......2004-02-21
This 12-track album features the duo of John Lawton (of URIAH HEEP fame) on vocals and Steve Dunning on (generally) acoustic guitar, with added contributions of drums on most tracks, and Phil Lanzon (URIAH HEEP fans will recognize the name!) on keyboards.
The bulk of the songs presented here are in the "unplugged" format, and have been taken from the repertoire of John Lawton's earlier career: "Feelings", "Been Hurt", "Firefly", "Come Back To Me", "Rain", "Wise Man", "I'm Alive" all from the URIAH HEEP stable, but given a new treatment not just acoustically, but with significantly different and often interesting arrangements. We're even treated to an old LUCIFER FRIEND's song, "Burning Ships".
John Lawton's voice sounds as good today as it did back then, but this nostalgic venture is perhaps a little too soft; the new arrangements to melodies that were originally softer (like "Wise Man", "Rain" and "Come Back To Me") seem more appealing than the attempts at softening some tracks like "I'm Alive" (which is one of my faves on "Fallen Angel"), because the contrast is perhaps too drastic... especially considering how rich and full the textures were on the originals.
Still, it's a daring effort, and the CD should find its way in the collection of any John Lawton afficionado!
