Should be as popular as Ace and Eric reissues!.......2005-01-15

I am a enthousiastic collector, and have almost all the Time Life rock n roll stuff, as well as ACE and Eric records cds of this era.
Honestly, if you go for 50s 60s songs, Ace and Eric records are unsurpassed, in their song selection and booklets info. But this is a highly forgotten collection that still hosts amazingly enough some songs that are no where else to be found. Ok some of them esp. of the 70s and 80s do not belong there, but that still leaves you with enough gemms I would say. So this whole series is excellent, and must have!
A few points why:
20 tracks per cd (Time life is also excellent, but you get 15 per cd!)
not the same old songs over again, but many rare and still excellent tracks!
last but not least good sound quality.

THREE STARS WILL SHINE TONIGHT.......2004-06-22

This is a real find! What a voice! Three Stars Will Shine Tonight, the theme song from Dr. Kildare, sung beautifully by Richard Chamberlain, accompanied the fantastic, hit sensation of the 1961 Television season. Dr. Kildare quickly became one of the most highly-rated programs in the history of television, both at home and abroad. I remember, as a young teenage girl, waiting with great anticipation for this wonderful weekly treat. Recently, I was able to purchase the entire five years of the Dr. Kildare series, on tape. Even though, there are several of the magnificent actor's works, that continue to elude me, this well-done program, is a glorious climax to my wonderful Richard Chamberlain library. As I study this cherished series from my past, the quality of the writing, acting, and directing, is most extraordinary. In other words, I am being entertained up to my earlobes. Dr. Kildare was really good, and I consider this a marvelous "FIND"! While, depicting a more simple time, it is actually more interesting and captivating, than the modern versions. The modern versions are wonderful, but they don't have Raymond Massey and Richard Chamberlain. In one episode, the two actors show their fine vocal skills, by singing in the Annual Variety Show for the physicians and nurses at Blair General Hospital. Raymond Massey had a lovely voice, and Richard was simply sensational as he sang and danced up a storm for his part in the variety show. The episode was also rich in comedy, and I found myself laughing hysterically. It was really really good. In fact, all the episodes are wonderful, with guest appearances from the most famous actors of that decade, such as: Robert Redford, Colleen Dewhurst, Ed Asner, William Shatner, Lee Marvin, Angie Dickinson, Gloria Swanson, and many more. What an opportunity that was for Richard Chamberlain, not only to star with the great Raymond Massey, but to act with most of the "greats" of our time. It had to be as helpful to his career, as any acting academy anywhere! While studying and enjoying this exceptional series from the 60's, I once again become that fifteen year old girl, spellbound by the great Dr. Leonard Gillespie, and his amazing young Dr. Kildare, who succeeded to mesmerize his audience each week, with his compassion, beauty, and charm. How I treasure these wonderful memories.

It would have been so easy for the glamorous actor, to bask in his "Hollywood Golden Boy" image. Instead, the perceptive actor, left the United States and studied in England, becoming a great classical stage actor, doing Shakespeare and starring in some wonderful movies. His role as Ralph Touchett, in Portrait of a Lady, remains one of my favorite performances to this day. I gained such respect for him, as I followed his successful career, and watched him take risks, and develop into a most remarkable and versatile actor. He is still at the top of my list after all these years. I have loved every performance. Unfortunately, there will never be another Richard Chamberlain! I wish there was a way to have this "FIND", turned into DVD, and digitally remastered, so all Richard Chamberlain fans could enjoy it also.

The gracious star, received 12,000 fan letters each week, more than a previous record set by Hollywood Icon, Clark Gable, star of Gone With The Wind. The handsome young actor, became a heartthrob overnight, to millions of adoring teenagers. The more sophisticated, discriminating admirer, saw him as the new, compassionate voice of medicine, and he became idolized as a symbol of heroism, a role model. Being a medical professional, I am sure he can be credited with inspiring many of the medical doctors, nurses, and researchers, we rely on for healthcare today. Recently, I had an opportunity to test that theory, when I decorated a bulletin board in my medical office with pictures of Richard Chamberlain, dressed in full costume for every movie and film he has ever made. What a sensation he was! Everyone knew that beautiful face, and had a favorite film or stage production to share. THE THORN BIRDS was his most famous and loved film. A proven classic, it is as loved and talked about today, as it was over 20 years ago. We found it touching to see our little grandma patients, as well as young women in their 20's and 30's, pat their chests, tapping their fingers rapidly, as they explained, how Father Ralph made their hearts beat. Ours is a Catholic Institution too!

We had grand fun, discussing his brilliant stage and film work, and it was my pleasure to push his book, SHATTERED LOVE. This marvelous book of selected memoirs, is "thought provoking," and "inspirational," providing hours of enjoyable conversations and insights. With background music, of Richard singing songs he made famous from the 60's-70's, and his beautiful face staring down at us from our bulletin board, it was almost like having the beloved actor, right here in the midst of this "diverse," and "open-hearted," group of medical professionals. There were days, we almost expected him to walk through the door.

THREE STARS WILL SHINE TONIGHT, the ninth song on this marvelous CD, is lovely, soothing, and uplifting! It certainly lowered the stress level in our office. Richard Chamberlain fans will not be disappointed. I personally, found the nostalgia quite intoxicating!
