Black Cab is a collaboration project between ex-foil lead singer Andrew Coates and registered nurse guitarist James Lee. Their sound is a blend of hard rock and electronica (think White Stripes jamming with Chemical Brothers). Altamont Diary is inspired by The Rolling Stones disastrous live concert at the San Francisco Altamont Speedway on December 6, 1969. The album was written as a bastard son of concept album, The Who's Tommy. Interstate. 2005.

Alicia Keys has more than lived up to the promise of her formidable debut Songs in A Minor, pushing beyond her flirtation with old-school soul and venturing into the modern world, even hiring Timbaland to guide her through the shoals of anthemic hip-hop on the breathless and funkified "Heartburn." Sounding like a hyperthyroid cheerleader, Keys unleashes a quirky sense of humor that no one even suspected she possessed. Her effortless singing on the beat-driven "Karma" is a wonder of sonics on this uplifting piece of pop philosophy, giving countless anxious woman hope that everything will work out as it's meant to, or on "Samsonite Man," where it won't. But despite her edgy styling and jazzy vocal posturing, Keys hasn't abandoned her love for old R&B and travels back in time, giving Gladys Knight's "If I Was Your Woman" a face lift it may not have needed, then turns around and recasts the song as the winsome and dramatic "You Don't Know My Name." But at its heart, The Diary of Alicia Keys is a gross misnomer. After listening to the disc, fans will know little more about the elusive diva than they did before, her lyrical style consistently more narrative than confessional. After hearing "You Don't Know My Name", it was like being transported back to the days of classic R&B, and a good example of what a woman should say, when she approaches a man she's interested in. Though I'm still not sure how she got his phone number? Then into the relationship, don't be afraid to tell him how you really feel about him, like her "If I Ain't Got You". Men like to hear that too. But "Diary" is the most melodic and moving song for me, it's all about the trust someone should feel they have in the one they are committed to. Alicia's in a world of her own when it comes to upholding traditional R&B.

Most of these tracks are excellent, and evoke memories of earlier R&B that contrast sharply with her youth. Songs such as "If I Aint Got You" are prime examples of her continued success and growth as a songwriter and performer. In an era of the "one-hit" or "one-album" wonder, Alicia Keys is emerging as a consistent (yet, not stagnant) artiste. I hope the trend continues.

I know this CD came out a while back, but it just seems to get better and better in time.

I always slap this CD on whenever I'm feelin' down, havin' a bad day at work, or just stuck in traffic.

From a guy's perspective, you get that feeling like she is talking/singing to you. I love that about her.

Oh, and "If I was your woman" should have been her next single.

The first time I got it, I wasn't thrilled with it the way I was with songs in a minor. It sounded a little too polished even though alicia was expressing her talent beautifully. But overtime I begin to love the album and I consider it an r&b classic now. Her piano playing has improved and is much more mature, and alicia pays tribute to music of the 70's combined with piano and modern day r&b vocals. Definitely worth purchasing.

I did some "research" and the song playing while Bridget goes through the market is "Woman Trouble" by Artful Dodger. It can be found on their album "It's All About The Stragglers". They are dance music artists out of the U.K. Why it isn't on the soundtrack is beyond me. I would've liked that better than some of the other songs. Loved Shelby Lynne's "Killin' Kind" and "Dreamsome" and Gabrielle's "Out Of Reach" and the incomparable Robbie Williams! Wish the Van Morrison version of "Someone Like You" would've been in..other version is just okay. Otherwise a wonderful CD! Always makes me remember scenes from the movie..love it!

Love this soundtrack. I listen to it all the time.
But can anyone tell me what song is played after she snags the exclusive interview with Kaffir? She is going grocery shopping to make a birthday dinner for herself and her friends. It almost sounds like Jamiroquai or something. I think the line says "I feel surrounded, confounded, emotionally dumbfounded." Drives me crazy everytime I watch the movie. Some of the songs listed on the credits are hard to find so I have not been able to find a sample of them all.

For years now, music video directors have had no problem at all making the leap to the big screen to direct feature length movies. The cinematic virtues of this are up to debate, but surely a veteran video director will be able to corral a world-class soundtrack, right? In the case of Diary of a Mad Black Woman, the answer's yes—and no. The talent is certainly impressive on Diary—Natalie Cole, Angie Stone, India Arie—but most of the songs sound like cuts that were left off an album. India Arie's "Purify Me" is a sweet, light, and excellent bit of confectionery that might be about God, it might be about a physical man—it's hard to tell. Her other song here , "Different Directions," is definitely about a man, and it kicks. Cheryl Riley's cover of Jewel's "One of Us," however, is run-from-the-room-screaming bad. Ms. Cole's "I Wanna Love Again," a new song, is a sweet, excellently-produced torch ballad, but is not the thing that comebacks are made of. --Mike McGonigal

i was very disappointed that they did NOT even use any of the original soundtrack [especially for the song "Father, can you hear me..."] which was sung in a VERY powerful, moving way in the movie by the little girl, other choir members, her pastor & her mom from their hearts. i didn't care who really sang the songs as long as they were EXACTLY as they had been in the movie [which is what i thought a soundtrack was & what i thought i was paying for]. they performed a very moving rendition in the movie that was truly inspirational to anyone watching and/or listening. i don't know what they were thinking when they decided to pass off these much more boring, sedate versions on the cd. otherwise, it was just an ok cd with kinda nice music since it didn't even remotely resemble what i had heard, enjoyed & absolutely loved. i guess i just want to know what in the world happened to make them change almost every song from the movie to plain, boring, unimaginative blather set to music. it was a waste of my hard-earned money to me since this was NOT what i thought i was paying for...

Much of the thrill of soul balladry is hearing a singer, especially a male singer, overcome the cultural emphasis on toughness and self-sufficiency and confess the most vulnerable of desires. In this hip-hop era of exaggerated toughness, there are greater obstacles to overcome and thus the potential for even more thrilling revelations. DeVante Swing, the mastermind behind the male vocal quartet Jodeci, seizes that potential more than once on the group's new album, Diary of a Mad Band. The group shares the vocal responsibilities, but the credits on nine of the album's 13 tracks read, "Music and Lyrics by DeVante Swing; Vocal arrangement: DeVante Swing; DeVante Swing: All Instruments." Thus the challenge of juggling romantic vulnerability with street credibility comes down on DeVante's 23-year-old shoulders. He fumbles the ball on a few occasions--the dumb, juvenile demands for sex on "You Got It" and "Sweaty"--but more often than not he comes through with soul ballads in the classic mode, revealing the tender heart beneath the thickened skin. The first single, "Cry for You," harkens back to the slow hymns of Jodeci's church backgrounds; the singers promise, "I would get on my knees for you," and the dizzying free fall of the melody underscores the total surrender of the lyrics. The next single, "Feenin'," is a similar confession, but it's juiced up with tape-reverse percussion sounds, a Zapp-like vocorder riff and a gruff lead set against angelic harmonies. Even "Ride & Slide" and "Alone," rather frank sexual propositions, have the good grace to plead rather than demand; they even promise detailed attention to female erogenous zones. "Forever My Lady" introduced the world to those "sangin" boys from North Carolina, but "Diary of a Mad Band" defined who they were. This album is a must have for the true R&B lovers out there!

Jodeci was one of the most popular R&B groups of the '90s. They drove women wild with their leather outfits, backwards caps, and crooning voices. "Diary of A Mad Band" was released when they were still very popular. Although I am a Jodeci fan, this is not a good albun. I have heard better coming from them. The album is dry and bland. I didn't feel any real excitement while listening to this LP. The greatest thing about this album is their voices. These men can harmonize very well, and not many sound as good as they do together. I was very impressed with their vocals. This album is also sexually distasteful. There are many sexual overtones, and they are just too raunchy for me. Artists can speak of sex and still have tact. These guys just get nasty and provocative.

"Ride and Slide" is not a good track. Its very sexually explicit, the lyrics are bad, and the production is bland. I found nothing appealing about this song. It was obviously a filler. "Sweaty" is also too sexually distasteful. In this song, they speak about intesnse sex. The production is lackluster just like the song. "Feenin" is not a bad song, but its definitely not this groups best work. This song talks about feenin' to sleep with a woman. Now who would have guessed that? The harmonies on this song are worth mentioning because they did very, very well. Overall, a pretty bland and not memorable song. "Cry For You" and "Jodecial Hotline" (which is actually an interlude) are the best songs on this piece of work. These songs are lyrically strong, contain decent production and good lyrics. They are both simply marvelous! A very young Missy Elliot is heard on "Won't Waste You". She delivers a supbar rap to go with the whack song. This song is about two people not wasting each other's time.

I did not enjoy this album overall. The production and instruments are used repeatedly and the lyrics show that this group obviously had a one track mind while they were in the studio creating this. Next please.

Quite possibly the BEST R&B album that ever came out in the 90s. Jodeci were the architects and prototypes of a genre of R&B that eventually mutated into the misguided raunchiness, juvenile bravado and posturing that sadly plagues the airwaves and culture today. It's not their fault that record companies tried to cash in and carbon copy our boys with a wave of one hit wonders and wannabees (many who didn't write their own material or let alone had the ability to sing). Luckily there's a multi-disc CD player in just about every automobile to switch off the radio, so that you can listen to "Alone", "Feenin'", "What About Us" and every other cut on the album. If you don't have Forever My Lady and Diary of a Mad Band - Your CD collection is not complete! Would it be fair to compare Jodeci to the Beatles? Yes, cos' these two albums are true classics and people will be rediscovering them for years to come.

this jodeci album has my alltime favorite jodeci track feenin'. this album once again shows Devante's genius and K-ci & Jojo untouchable lead vocals. Cry for you, my heart belongs to you, and what about us became classic in my eyes from the moment I first heard them. Being in high school when this album came out was right on time because like jodeci, I too love the ladies. This is a great album that you can let play all the way through.

this album is absolutely GREAT! and is my favourite Jodeci album!! all the tracks are great and if you are looking for somethin' early 90's!? then this is a must have! and to them new fans of R&B, you all need to check out Jodeci and get this!

My Favourite Tracks are "My Heart Belongs To U" "Cry For You" "Feenin'" "What About Us" "Ride & Slide" "Alone" "In The Meanwhile" and "Gimme All You Got". there voices and the beats are like meant for eachother!! and i see not one reason not to purchase this, its definetly a must have!

Scarface's third solo album, 1994's "The Diary," is one of the most compelling rap albums you'll find. Whether on his own or with the Geto Boys, Scarface has always provided emotional, disturbing, but most of all real rap music, and "The Diary" may be the best example of this. Lyrically this album is truly amazing. Scarface consistently tells scary tales of ghetto life and delivers raw philosophy on the state of the world and his experiences. There are one or two tracks that are just for fun (also excellent) but for the most part Scarface stays focused as usual, always having a definite purpose for every one of his emotional verses. Production on this album is excellent. It has the feel of a raw underground release, this being early Rap-A-Lot, and the production is unpolished but perfect, matching Face's style well. While often simple, the music provides a suitable background for his lyrical imagery. With only one guest appearance on this album (from an angry Ice Cube in his prime I might add!), you really get to explore the complex character of Mr. Scarface. This album rarely gets its deserved recognition. This is the finest album from one of hip hop's finest rappers of all time, and it is a must-have for any hip hop fan.

The album begins with a short intro with a dramatic piano solo drowned out by gunshots, a perfect prelude to the beautiful yet realistically violent album that is "The Diary." "The White Sheet" is the first full song, a hardcore murder rap with simple, upbeat production. The emotional yet gritty "No Tears" speaks sadly of life in the ghetto. "Jesse James" is awesome, Face spews threats and warnings at deserving suckers. On "G's," Scarface speaks of urban violence and war, over a beat with heavy bass and whiny synths. "I Seen a Man Die" is a legendary track, one of his finest single works to date. Over a subtle, thoughtful musical backing, Scarface speaks of life and death, it's interesting because while emotional, he maintains a very hardened tone. After the funky and enjoyable "One" comes one of my favorite songs here, "Goin' Down." It is a very catchy, accessible kind of song unlike any others on this album, and he even sings in the chorus. Over a singalong type of beat, the lyrics are about picking up women from his car. It's humorous and just a great song. The Ice Cube collabo "Hand of the Dead Body" is legendary and amazing, one of the toughest and finest rap songs I have heard. The beat and chorus are very eerie but totally funky, the music is banging and grimy sounding. Scarface and Cube rap about corruption and injustice in mainstream America, they are both angry as ever and this track is crazy. Scarface updates the Geto Boys classic "Mind Playin' Tricks on Me" on the next track, "Mind Playin' Tricks 94." I love this song, musically this track is beautiful, using a polished version of the original. The verses deal with very similar topics to the original, but it actually sounds like it's coming from a man who is three years more mature. "The Diary" and the nice outro end the album on a good note.

"The Diary" is a certified hip hop classic that I highly recommend to all. This album has the feeling of a grimy underground album, not really polished but impeccable with the lyrical content and overall style. This album is one of the finest to emerge from the south ever, and I think any hip hop fan should have this in their collection. It's got so much replay value and is enjoyable on so many levels, I can't see anyone not enjoying "The Diary."

If you don't consider this a CLASSIC, you have serious problems. The Diary is one of the BEST RAP ALBUMS EVER!!! Scarface has never sounded so good. Every song is outstanding! His production on this LP is by far my favorite from all of his work. The beats just stay in your head for days. Highly recommended for any fan of music. I know people who hate rap that love this shhh...

Scarface comes as hard as ever on his 3rd solo. First off the beats, ranging from deep syrupy G-Funk, to steady, hard mobbin' produced by N.O. Joe, Mike Dean, Uncle Eddie, and Face himself bring to mind the magic of mid 90's gangsta rap in the tradition of Dr. Dre, Sam Sneed, Ice Cube, and many others. Face's hard rapping voice, and relentless flows are enganging. There are two hella short but slammin' G-Funk tracks that standout because of their beats and ferocity: "No Tears" and "The Diary." In fact, these are among my favorite Scarface tracks, brecause they are to the point and are not too long and drawn out. "Hand Of The Dead Body" is a hard core classic collabo between Ice Cube, Face, and Devin that touches on politics, and who the OG's in the game are. There is a neat remake of the Geto Boy's classic 1991 hit "Mind Playin Tricks On Me." I love the beat to it, perfect for a top down ride. "G's" is smokin, over a smooth but hard G-Funk beat, with a funky, faint, twangy guitar riff in each verse. All in all, Face's album slams all the way thru.

Like the other reviewers before me, I will preface this by saying that I LOVE the Night Ripper album. It's a brilliantly calculated album of near perfect mash-ups. And one of the best albums of 2006.

Unstoppable, the previous album, is not as strong, but you can tell he was improving his craft, working his way up to the brilliance of Night Ripper. At least those songs sound like mash-ups in the traditional sense.

But Secret Diary, his first album, is just a mess. These "songs" are nowhere near as fluid & coherent as his later albums. Instead it sounds like your CD player is skipping. (As one reviewer pointed out, I too had to check to make sure the disc wasn't damaged!) Either that, or it brings to mind the sound your radio makes as you quickly scroll across the dial, catching split-second snippets of songs. I'd be hard-pressed to call it music. And it's certainly nothing you can dance to! One track, "Time To Get Glamorous," doesn't even use songs, but rather sound effects & such!

This album is more a meditation on noise experimentation if nothing else. It's the CD equivalent to record scratching. And it's not enjoyable. Skip this & instead go for Night Ripper & Unstoppable.

I will be the first to say that Girl Talk's "Night Ripper" is simply incredible, and it never seizes to amaze me everytime I listen to it, which is approaching the thousands.

This obsession led to a understandable Girl Talk high, prompting me to order this album.

To be honest, I spent the first hour of owning it testing the CD in every disc playing device I owned, making sure that my ears weren't deceiving me. I was convinced the disc was severely scratched or damaged. However, I was completely wrong. The tracks are supposed to be like that.

One of the most annoying things I can think of is a cd skipping, killing a mood. This entire album is intentionally like that, and it's repulsing.

Purchase Night Ripper, which is nearly perfect, but under no circumstances purchase this album.

This is damn near unlistenable. It won't ever be played again. It's like they took what might have been a good mix/mash and destroyed it on purpose by sending through some assinine chain of effects boxes. There's so much distortion and bit-rate manipulation that you can't tell what's going on underneath. And that's the problem, you can't hear the music. Art is art, whatever, but this just isn't fun to listen to. It's not thoughtful, playful, deep, or anything else, it's noise for the sake of noise.

I gave Night Ripper 5 stars but I can't in good conscience recommend this whatsoever.

I think it is funny that the music in the 80's sucked sooo bad. And then the 90's came and brought us Vanilla Ice and Hammer. I hate hair bands. I never knew music till for some reason when watching 120 Minutes on MTV (I don't want MTV anymore after they canceled this show). I saw their music video and it was all over for me. I was hooked on EMO... If anyone likes EMO, this is the start of EVERYTHING that came later. Even if you don't care for screaming and emotional feelings all of the music that is decent now a days came from this band. And if you look at some of the great bands of today you will find SDRE somewhere inbetween the lines whether they are playing in the band or influence.

This is one of sunny day real estates older albums and it truely is an innovative experimental album that launched a band and helped form a new type of music scene in the early 90's. For fans of all those emo bands you should look into sunny day realestate because they are innovators and pioneers that helped shape modern music and it's a shame that they are no longer a band.

I don't know what this band's legacy will be, whether or not they influenced modern emo or indie, or how to classify them. I do know they remind me of another band that was ahead of its time and broke up too soon: Hum. Before I picked up this album I had never heard anything like Hum's "Astronaut." Now I have and I'm pretty damn excited about it. Circles, 47, and Shadows are the three standouts for me, but this entire album is stellar.

This album and both of Hum's are constant reminders to me to scour the musical landscape so I will never completely miss out on brilliance like this again. When time travel becomes widely available, I'm going back to 1995 to see Hum and Sunny Day Real Estate live.

This is my favorite CD ever. This is the masterpiece of the 1990's. Every lyric is beautifully captured and Jeremy's voice is breathtaking, sad, masterful, happy, angry and everything in between. I truly love this album. best song here is "Song About An Angel" I cry everytime. my band covered this song and everyone was in tears after. pure emotion.

I had heard of SDRE for many years but just recently picked up Diary and LP2. These are excellent albums musically and the emotions in the singing seems very genuine. I only wish I had picked these up sooner.

1-Soliloquy: Intro. Pretty good intro considering I hate intros.
2-The One Armed Boxer Vs. The Flying Guillotine: I love this song. It's really a great way to kick off the CD, very fast paced song that caught my attention.
3-Note To Self: This isn't my favorite song, but it's probably one of their most well known. It's definitely not the best off the album but I love Sonny's vocals on it. Once I listen to it I love it, but compared to the rest of the album it's not very good, which is sort of unfair since it's still a good song.
4-I liked you better when you were naked on the internet: This is my favorite song, a lot of people don't like it and think it's boring, but I just love listening to Sonny's voice without the distraction of instruments and screaming. Yes those things are awesome, but Sonny's voice is more amazing. & It's a good song lyrically wise too, but is a short song. (Under two minutes.)
5-Featuring Some Of Your Favorite Words: A great song, another one of my favorites. (That's not saying too much since I love every single song on this album because they're all great.)This has a bit more instruments than some people might like, but not enough to ruin the song or anything. My favorite line is about 2 minutes into the song when Sonny goes, "No I can't breathe".
6-Emily: This is an amazingly sweet song. Even better; it's acoustic. Sonny's vocal job is amazing. It might seem like I overuse that word, but Sonny is a really really really great singer and he deserves credit. :) The only bad thing about this song is its length. I play it over-and-over because it's too short, only 2:39 and it goes by fast when you get caught up in the lyrics. This is my favorite of my favorites. It's short and sweet. Really sweet.
7-Secrets Don't Make Friends: It's a great song, but sort of disappointing after hearing Emily right before it. If a different artist had this song, it'd probably be considered their best, but this is From First To Last we're talking about! :)
8-Populace In Two: It starts out sort of slow, but picks its pace up a bit. I know a lot of people sort of dislike this song, because it's a bit slow, but it's got some lines that stick in your head. It's got a bit of an instrumental in it, but it's still a good instrumental.
9-Kiss Me, I'm contagious: The lyrics make it an ideal scene song, (Bang, Bang, Guns go bang) but this came out before the scene got really huge. It's still a pretty decent song.
10-Minuet: A minute long acoustic instrumental, I usually hate instrumentals, but I actually like this one a lot.
11-Ride The Wings Of Pestilence: A song about murder. What could feed and tame teen angst any better? Even if murder isn't your scene (no pun intended) it's a great song, I love it a lot, even when I'm not mad, so it's a great song you can enjoy anytime. Again, Sonny does some great vocals.
12: Hidden Track: This song is great J they're making fun of rap/hip hop in it, & it's a really great song. Another one of my favorites, although it disappoints me that Sonny didn't do the rap, it doesn't ruin the song though. "Hiding cameras in your bedroom, girl I know what you've done!"

Overall this is a great album the only one I listen to anymore. I've only had it for a month, but I haven't listened to any other CD since. This CD doesn't get old, and is just an amazing CD.

After adding 15 year old Sonny Moore as their lead singer, From First To Last headed to the studios to release their debut full length. The album is a great emo/post-hardcore album. It has it's strong points and has very few weak points. I would have to say though, this album is not as good as their second full length Heroine, which has more of an edge. Anyway, the highlights on this one are The One Armed Boxer vs. The Flying Gullitine, Note To Self, I Liked You Better Before You Were Naked On The Internet (one of the slower songs on the album along with Emily), Emily (which is probably one of my top 3 favorites on this album), and Ride The Wings of Pestilence. Overall, for fans of Senses Fail and other screamo bands, you may like this, although it's mostly a harder version of emo, and there isn't a whole lot of screaming. This album has great singing drumming and song writing. You won't be disapointed.

Album Description

Guadalcanal Diary was one of the most underrated bands to come out of the Athens, GA music scene of the 1980s. Their unique brew of lyrics focusing on left-of-center subject matter married to irresistible melodies with a bedrock foundation of thrashing drums and rhythmic bass lines, resulted in a sound that set them apart from their peers R.E.M., Pylon and the B-52's. The two albums on this Audio CD two-fer are the first two of the band's four total major label releases. The first, originally released in 1984, was produced by R.E.M. and Don Dixon. The second, released two years later, was produced by Rodney Mills (.38 Special, Atlanta Rhythm Section) and Steve Nye (XTC, Bryan Ferry, The Cure).

Full title - Walking In The Shadow Of The Big Man/Jamboree. Thanks to R.E.M., there was no shortage of Southern guitar pop bands in the early '80s, but Guadalcanal Diary was different from the rest. While their songs and melodies were as melodic and approachable as R.E.M., the Byrds, or any of their imitators, singer/guitarist Murray Attaway's lyrics were bizarre treatises of his favorite obsessions - American history and mythology, religion, and the supernatural. This two on one CD features their first and second albums from 1984& 1986. Collectables. 2003.

WOW, what a nice 2 cd set. I really think the way to listen to it is ALL the way thru. "Walking" is such a nice held back set of songs, and then "Jamboree" explodes with so much in the way of mixing and production. I have each one now on separate cd's, and the one with them both. This is all good, but I really love to play the entire double album. They seem to be well paired. While the music is obvious, the lyrics are impeccable!

I enjoy taking a chance on albums by artists I don't know much about or remember little of. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, but it's worth taking a chance. This album is an absolute Winner through and through. I saw this band back in 1988 at a ballroom in Milwaukee that hosted bands that were on the verge of making it, the semi-famous - you get the idea, but that was 18 years ago and after burning many brain cells in those days, I just have a vague recollection of what they were like. I just remembered that they were a great live band. I've always been a fan of Power-Pop, jangly, Rickenbacker-ish sounding bands, and these guys were, from what I can tell from this two-fer, masters at this craft. I can't stand REM and there are the obvious comparisons, but these guys had their own style, and if you are going take a chance on an album, this has got to be one of them. I bought it 3 weeks ago and it hasn't left my CD player since. REM should be opening for this band.

I have read many reviews of 'Jamboree' which are far too harsh. This album is one of the best alternative/college rock albums of the eighties despite a few production issues (hear how the guitar deafens you at the end of 'spirit train'). Songs like Michael Rockefeller, spirit train, dead eyes, pray for rain, fear of god capture a mystery and supernatural quality that few bands can achieve lyrically or musically. 'Big Man' is hit and miss with me- there are several throwaways; and it seems that the band had not quite hit its stride yet. However- Watusi Radio, Trail of Tears and a few others are worth a listen.

This stuff rocks like a big dog...Who knows what happened to this band, but in their prime, they were just an amazingly tight, thrashing little combo...Great wise-ass, but metaphysical lyrics...all set to a seamless combination of REMish jingle-jangle and muscular, souped-up Bo Diddleyesque rhythms...absolutely a band that understood the importance of rhythm...I saw them reduce a small nightclub in La. (The Bayou) one night to a sweaty, exhausted, but satisfied mass of weary, hipster flesh...

Watusi Rodeo, in particular, is good for what ails you and never fails to produce a smile.

The second album of Ozzy Osbourne's solo career, Diary of a Madman was his last to feature the talents of guitarist Randy Rhodes, who died in a plane crash soon after the disc's release. While it's not as furious as Osbourne's first solo album, Blizzard of Ozz, it still captures Ozzy's maniacal glory. Highlights include "Over the Mountain" and the kinetic "Flying High Again," which benefit as much from Rhodes's blistering musicianship as from Ozzy's heavy, melodic songwriting. Some of the disc is burdened with overly sappy passages and obligatory ballads, but overall, Diary of a Madman is required listening for the well-heeled metalhead. Maybe one of the craziest albums in the world...the master of hard rock, Ozzy Osbourne released in 1981 his second solo album called Diary of a Madman. The titles already tell that there cannot be the most healthiest action in this album. "Little Dolls", "Diary of a Madman", "S.A.T.O.", "Believer", "Over the Mountain" are the sickest tracks I have ever heard from Ozzy. They competite with the tracks like "Suicide Solution", "Mr. Crowley" from the first album "Blizzard of Ozz". "Tonight" is a peaceful ballad but the lyrics are quite satanist...at least in the end of the song. It is great that Ozzy has some good upbeat songs like "Over the Mountain", "S.A.T.O.", and "Flying High Again", and great doom metal songs "Believer" and "Diary of a Madman". "You Can't Kill Rock And Roll" is quite pride and rebellious. It was once my favourite songs.

The album sounds fine. If I want to hear the original mix, I'm sure as heck not going to buy a CD version, for Jeebus' sake. I'll go find the album, which has a wonderful warm tone I can still remember, 25 years later, because Ozzy was my God back in my early singing days, along with Ian Gillan. Seriously, I'm listening to this through headphones at the moment. Who the heck listens to this album for the drums or the bass? You're here For Ozzy and Randy. Drummers and bassists are just throw-away components in an Ozzy band. It's been that way since Ozzy stood on a stage for the first time with Tony Iommi.

They tampered with a classic. I can just see Sharon "Yoko" Osbourne cackling in the control room when they RERECORDED half the album. Sounds nothing like the original. Since it's a different album, then it should have a different title. How about "Diary of a Insane European Woman", since Sharon's fingerprints are all over this tripe.

Ozzy and Randy and I think everything else except the bass and drums which absoluely suck, ruined this could of been perfect remix. Kerslake and Daisley were orignally perfect for this recording. It's sad what happened to Ozzy. I don't know if he's well now or not but he was kicked out of own band for Dio and Vinnie ( sure whatever ) He's doing a ten song set in sleazefest. That's telling me something. But sometimes the soul of the genius is more important. But the situation is perfect for him because a ten song set isn't going to kill him and least it's getting him out and have like 50 bands do most of the work. Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath and the 1970's incredible.
