There are few, if any, Christian artists who better understand the dynamics of worship-oriented rock music than Chris Tomlin. On Not to Us, his second major-label release, Tomlin raises the bar for anyone who ascribes to this ever-increasing popular format. He has a knack for blending irresistible melodies and catchy choruses that nearly always leave a pleasant aftertaste. Tomlin's wall-of-guitars sound on the opener, "Everything," the title track, and the anthemic "Famous One" cooks up enough firepower to light a church service. His constant touring with the One Day worship caravan over the last few years has clearly taught him how to lead the crowd with loud. But he can also deftly switch gears while never losing focus. There's nice counterbalance with the softer testimony of "Come Home Running" and the beautiful "Wonderful Maker." Ultimately, Tomlin showcases here a seldom-matched instinct for infusing familiar rock phrasing with modern worship at no cost to the integrity of either. --Michael Lyttle
Customer Reviews:
This Album is More than Enough for Me.......2007-04-19
Tomlin is excellent. All of his albums are marvelous, but this one in my opinion, is his best. Every song on it shows the glory of God, and it is also a great musical composition. Over half of the songs here are played in my church, where I grew to love them, and to hear them by the original artist was awesome. My favorites would have to be "Enough","Not to Us","Famous One",and "Unchanging", which are all favorites for our church and our worship team. However, the song that has filled me with Christ the most from this album would be "The River". Thanks for all that you do Chris.
Incredible CD.......2006-10-04
I have one word for this CD 'INCREDIBLE'.
It is simply the best CD on the market today despite any genre.
Every song is excellant. A must have for any CD collection.
Even the used market still has the price around $10 and it has been
out for several years. If you don't have this cd you must buy it.
Best Corporate Worship CD of all time!.......2006-06-03
Yes, David Crowder Band is my favorite to listen to, but this is the ultimate in corporate worship. A praise and worship band could easily do a whole set of just these songs and the crowd would sing along loud with every word. My favorites include: Enough, Not To Us, Wonderful Maker, Famous One, Unchanging, and Come Home Running. But let's face it, there's not one bad song on here. And judging how good "Arriving" was, Chris Tomlin has proven that he is the real deal. He has a great voice, great song structure, and you will always find a bible-centered message. This CD is timeless and I will have it forever (or until the CD disintegrates from being overplayed!).
Thank you Lord for Chris Tomlin!.......2006-04-18
One day I fall down on my knees and said everything I haven't said to Lord before, over the song Enough From that moment on I started to lisen to every Chris Tomlin song that could ever come out.And comeing the from town Grand Saline, Texas we hear him a lot. YES,Chris Tomlin use to live in Grand Saline so it's a big honer to have him in our town. Thank you lord!
5 Stars and Beyond....Another gift from God!.......2006-03-24
This is the second cd I purchased on Chris and it's fabulous.I travel over a large mountain to go to and from work.So during one of my trips home I had my favorite radio station on which is KLOVE and I heard Chris's song on this cd called "ENOUGH" That's all I had to hear.I stopped the car on top of a large hill and just simply gazed up at the over powering stars and cried.I was totally awestruck. The song just filled me with God's awesomeness and love. The entire cd was definately God inpsired.Chris is one of my favorite Christian singers and I recommend this cd to EVERYONE!All Chris's songs are an eleborate way of epxressing his love and faith in the Lord. His music is beautiful.Very easy to hear the words and to remember them as well. The sound of the guitars are gorgeous. Keep them coming Chris....you are one fabulous artist!

Customer Reviews:
Bravo!.......2000-07-22
I heard this album for the first time at a restuarant in Florence during my trip to Italy. I was surprised it was from the US beacause it has captured the very soul of Italy. After 7 years it has remained my favorite of all Puccini cds I own. I especially like the fact that it is instumental and can be played for many occassions. It never fails to stir the wanderlust for a trip back to Italy! A must for every romantic!
Outstanding compilation of the Italian classics,.......1999-05-01
I have been a music lover for years. This CD introduced some Italian music to me that I was not familiar with. I listen to this music very often...it is almost theraputic in effect. I have never heard more beautiful music together on one CD. You won't regret getting this one!

Customer Reviews:
Fabulous for any Broadway-lover.......2007-01-30
Packs into 5 CD's a sampling of Broadway tunes from the 20's thru (almost) today, mostly from original cast recordings. Includes not just well-known hits, but also some lesser-known gems. Sound quality is first rate, booklet is informative too. Have given this as a gift to several friends with rave reviews.
Top Shelf.......2007-01-04
This is THE definitive collection of Broadway hits. I have other collections, and none of them measure up. A great deal of care was obviously taken in compiling and presenting this box set. It covers a lot of ground, starting with some long-forgotten but still very enjoyable hits from the days of yore, and finishing with present-day favorites. To the best of my knowledge, the recordings are by those who made them famous. You won't be disappointed.
TERRIFIC CD'S.......2006-03-23
THESE BROADWAY MUSICALS CD'S ARE A BROADWAY LOVERS DREAM. WITH EACH SONG, MEMORIES COME FLOODING BACK. BOTH THE FAMILIAR AND THE FORGOTTEN SONGS ARE A TRUE LISTENING PLEASURE. IF YOU LIKE BROADWAY, YOU'LL LOVE THIS SET.
Great Collection of Broadways greatest Songs .......2005-06-14
This Collection was perfectly made it has almost all the most famous Broadway songs on this 5 cd set. The Music is great and has Broadways greatest treasures like "Memory""People""With One Look""Give my regards Too Broadway" just to name a few of this numerous cd set with over 100 songs. This is a great buy if you like musicals or The music of Broadway
Great Compilation!.......2005-01-17
If you are a fan of the Broadway Musicals, this is a collection that you should purchase. Since I got the 5 disc set I've enjoyed listening to it. The majority of the songs are done by the original singers. The collection is priceless considering that you will have over 100 songs from popular musicals since the beginning of Broadway

Customer Reviews:
This is a fantastic deal!.......2007-02-25
If you are a fan at all of the Four Seasons you should love this music. I will admit right now that I am a classical music fan. I don't write or perform it. I am a novice listener. I have never taken any music lessons(though I am leaning in that direction) and certainly have not gone through any university music training. I started out in rock and roll but found classical as I got older and fell in love with it a few years ago.
With that context in mind I do hope I am able to recognize quality and this work is of the highest. It helps when you are starting with good ingredients in the first place. You can't bake great bread without great ingredients and Vivaldi's music library has some of the greatest musical ingredients of the last 300 years. They are very much the foundation for modern western culture and music. His talent is woven through what we are
The first 26 CDs are instrumental starting with the four seasons and working through many of the Master's many popular works. I will admit the four seasons are not the best interpretation I have heard but it is definitely acceptable. The rest of the music shows us many facets of the Baroque style and you can see themes emerging through some of the pieces that give us a 'fingerprint' of Vivaldi's style and the parameters of the stylistic leanings of the genre at the time. If you want to immerse yourself in 18th century music this is your chance
This music would be ideal for someone who owns a store and is looking for background music. With over 26 CDs of instrumental music alone you could have those constantly looping and you'd probably never get bored of them(OK I may be stretching it a little there). The reason is that the music does not leave a bad 'aftertaste' in your mind. It fits into the background as easily and naturally as it is to listen to it consciously in the foreground. If you are a fan of classical Baroque you don't usually need to be in the mood for this, it will adjust your mood to itself and Vivaldi's music is almost always of an uplifting sort if this collection is any indication. If you want something to listen to at your job 8 hours per day this is good for the mind and it would take you over a week to get through it if you listened to it every minute of every work day. You will also work without the worry of the music distracting your concentration. I find it enhances it when I'm working. I don't know how well this would work on school kids but teachers might want to try playing this during school time. You may create a few geniuses, we certainly could use more!
If you are looking for something to ease your sleep and oil your dreams I have put these CD's on in the background. Not only can I easily fall asleep when they are playing quietly in the background but it helps you sleep and you wake up in a very pleasant atmosphere if the music is still playing quietly when you wake(you probably would need to rip them to your MP3 player to do that). It's like napping at a classical music concert without the worry of being nudged by your spouse or offending the other concert goers with your snoring. That will be quite a unique experience for you and possibly give you some real sweet dreams. It has for me
So to wrap it up this is very intelligent, uplifting music that is great for your mind and your soul. It is definitely worth the purchase if you are a fan of the Four Seasons and the Baroque genre in my novice classical music fan's opinion
Excellent, Broad Selection.......2007-01-25
This 40-cd collection affords me a rare pleasure almost daily: the thrill of hearing something new by Vivaldi. Despite my best efforts over the years, I've managed to miss hearing a lot of great works by the master. Listening to a single CD now and then, catching tunes on the radio... you can't possibly get a comprehensive understanding of Vivaldi's output that way.
But when you work your way systematically from CD 1 through 40, you're sure to find many pleasant surprises. I've been skipping through everything I already know -- in some cases, it has only taken me about a minute to get through a whole CD (first 3 seconds of each track is usually enough). But then I stop and listen carefully three or four times to anything that's new.
Ah, what a pleasure. I've already acquired some new favorites. And some old standbys have proved even more rewarding, e.g. at first I thought RV 127 (CD 7, tracks 10-12) was performed too slowly (Naxos No: 8.553742 is much faster), but now I'm not sure; maybe it's BETTER that way! I can't recommend this set highly enough.
$70....when was this???.......2006-11-25
Wish the cost was $70 now. Guess the record producer (or Amazon) got tired of making less than $2 per CD.
$70/40... you do the math........2006-04-07
No, I don't own this collection...yet. However, the price of the collection compels me to review it beforehand. Never have I seen such a complete collection of Vivaldi compositions at such an incredibly low price. At $1.75 dollars a CD, the record producer (Brilliant Classics) isn't making much of a profit. The compilation pulls some of its works from DG Achiv Produktion's vault (see Standage), such as the violin concertos, as well as from unknown producers (the Poland Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra is heavily featured). The collection is so complete that it is academic, and I would not be surprised if music libraries quickly emptied it from Amazon's shelves. The collection is simply worth it for the incredible price (English Concert's recording of the violin concertos cost nearly 30 bucks, and is exactly featured here). Overall, the price alone makes this collection exceptionally attractive, and the ensembles featured aren't bad either.

Awesome Set!.......2007-07-01
I am a huge fan of Jerry Goldsmith. They did a great job preserving his vision. I can listen to this collection for hours. Great music!
Elmer Bernstein Film Music Collection.......2006-11-03
This is compilation of hit film music from one of the greatest composers in motion pictures. What is surprising though is the music not included like the Ghost And The Darkness, the 13th Warrior, Rudy and others. To be sure, 4 discs are not enough for a composure of this stature. THe recording, however, is an "engineering masterpiece" which makes the music even more enjoyable than when you first heard it at the movies. When are we ging to get the music that was omittd from this compilaton?
Overall a strong Goldsmith sampler.......2006-04-11
Okay, this is a CD review, so the focus is on music, but I've got to say this first: this has got to be a contender for the ugliest cover art ever. I mean, come on...instead of a tribute to the composer, the cover looks like someone spilled a glass of merlot over a NASA photo.
Fortunately, even an ugly cover will not ruin good music. And the good news is that I'd say about 75 percent of the music is good....and on a 4 cd set, that's a lot. Like other Silva compilations, the strength of this compilation is the variety. There are selections from the big releases (Star Trek, Omen, Rambo), but there is also a healthy dose of tracks from the smaller releases(Under Fire, Lionheart, The Swarm).
Two examples come to mind. Capricorn One and The Great Train Robbery are two movies that are not exactly household names today, but are dominated by two of Goldmith's finest main themes. The City of Prague Philharmonic come through with terrific renditions. And there are plenty of other strong performances...a few being concert versions conducted by Goldsmith himself. Suprisingly, "The Wind and the Lion" works, which is no small accomplishment given the ferentic original performance of "Raisuli Attacks".
It's not a complete success. A few of the performances fall flat, particularly some of the more inventive scores. Total Recall is just bad, mangling the performance with poor percussion and synthesizer choices to boot. Also a letdown is the Klingon Attack from the first Star Trek movie. The Prague Philhamonic attempt doesn't sound bad--it's just that once you've heard the original soundtrack's "blaster beam" with enough bass to rattle your teeth...well let's just say Silva's version is a little tinny in comparison.
But I shouldn't dwell on the negative. Overall, this is a strong sampler of Goldsmith's variety. There are plenty of quality performances here, and despite a few omissions (noticeably Planet of the Apes)this is a very good release from Silva.
Jerry Goldsmith - 40 years of pleasure.......2006-02-22
It was wonderful to hear Mr. Goldsmith's music that went all the way back to The Man from UNCLE, The Waltons, Dr Kildare, etc. And then to hear his music up to the present. The man was a genius!
Almost the perfect compilation.......2005-12-31
Age has its value.... This sweeping collection of compositions brings back so many great memories. This collection shows how significant Goldsmith was for both the movie screen and the small screen. With such a grand collection, every reader can be assured that at least one movie or TV program they like or remember had Goldsmith's contribution. It was an amazing life and the collection well worth having.
However, as sweepig as it is, there are a few holes in the selection. "First Contact", one of the sweetest and richest compositions from the Star Trek is absent. "The Ghost and the Darkness" is missing and the "Medicine Man" music should include the theme song. By dwelling on several selections from the Blue Max, these were squeezed out. Three full and important movie themes got the axe.
However, all but "The Ghost and the Darkness" are readily available and not overly expensive as is the "Ghost" CD. This is a must have for the TV and movie music fan.
Before there was Hans Solo there was Napolean Solo, before ER there was Dr. Kildare. Jerry Goldsmith IS Sci-Fi. "Resistance is futile.. you MUST assimilate this CD collection."

Album Description
The Attraction to All Things Uncertain is the first solo effort from tweaker, a.k.a. Chris Vrenna, former member of Nine Inch Nails. Featuring vocals by David Sylvian, Will Oldham and Shudder to Think's Craig Wedren, tweaker's Six Degrees debut is an incendiary and haunting collision of rock and otherworldly electronics.
Customer Reviews:
Interesting, but ultimately unsatisfying........2005-08-03
"The Attraction to All Things Uncertain" is the debug album by Chris Vrenna's "Tweaker" project. Inspired by the cover painting, the album has been criticized from numerous angle for being too much like Nine Inch Nails, or too little like Nine Inch Nails, or too much of a dull electronica experiment with not enough songs.
In truth, all of these criticisms are probably true on some level. Certainly, Vrenna's work is heavily informed by his former employer ("Swamp"), but not enough so to be able to please the majority of NIN fans ("Years From Now"), and the truth is that from my perspective, its when Vrenna steps out and develops his own sound that he excels on the album.
The best tracks are bizarre, moody, and borderline irritating at times-- relying on some sort of bizarre arpeggiated part or oddball sample intertwining with a drum loop and more-often-than-not NIN-like guitar line. Take vocal tracks "Linoleum" (ably sung by David Sylvian) and "Take Me Alive" (Craig Wedren). Both establish a sort of tense, haunting mood punctuated by unexpected shifts and a tense vocal. Of the instrumental work (of which the album is dominated), the same sort of oddity in performance is where the record excels, as the bizarre "The Drive-Bye" illustrates. The song's sample-driven sound really borders on grating which develops the tension of the piece well.
Of course, sometimes it doesn't quite work. "Microsize Boy" is washed in electronic voices and NIN-like beats that end up grating to the point where you practically count the seconds until the song ends.
In the end, "The Attraction to All Things Uncertain" may have a lot of interesting ideas and unique moments, but as a whole I find that it fails to hold together. Interested parties will find a lot to like about this (I did), but its not an overly rewarding effort.
Excellent Debut.......2004-04-02
I've found myself listening to TATATU a lot recently, gearing up in anticipation for Tweaker's upcoming second album, "2 a.m. Wakeup Call". This type of music is definitely not for everyone, but for those who decide to venture in, they won't be disappointed. This album is intended to be listened to on a rainy day, when you have plenty of time to just relax, have a few cups of coffee, and possibly just stare out a window or outside a patio into the bleak overcast.
On the 4 vocal tracks, the guest appearances by David Sylvian, Will Oldham, and Craig Wedren are all exceptionally well done, and fit nicely. The lyrics sung on "Microsize Boy" are entirely mechanic and go excellent with the mood at this point of the album. After this track, the pace slows down significantly, almost as if to reflect on the previous 9 tracks, most of which all pulse with intense drum beats and synths. It picks back up again for the final two tracks, "After All" and "Come Play".
All in all, a 4/5 star performance for me, with only a few minor weak points throughout the entire album, but easily forgivable ones at that. You really need to listen for yourself to understand the concept. After hearing the first released track, "Ruby", off the second Tweaker album, there is no doubt in my mind it will go above and beyond what TATATU did. Here, Vrenna was only scratching the surface...
Standout Tracks: Linoleum, Years From Now, Swamp, The Drive-bye, Take Me Alive, Microsize Boy
WOW!!! Great C.D!.......2003-12-09
This album is VERY eclectic! Many different sounds and genres are combined. Industrial, trance, ambient, rock. I really enjoyed this album!
It's kinda stupid for these other reviewers to compare these guys to NIN. NIN is great but Tweaker definatley has merit. I think its unfair to compare the two because both have such different qualities.
P.S- Whoever the reviewer was that said this album had dance music breaks inbetween songs is INSANE. You wouldn't know real "dance" music if it bit you in the A$$.
Anyways... Please hear it for yourself.
phenomenal music.......2003-08-20
to start off, yes, christ vrenna was the drummer for NIN, and no, this cd does not sound like "the downward spiral" or "broken." it is a completely different sound. but that is probably to be expected, seeing as how when one does one's own solo project they can do whatever they please. it may not sound like NIN, but you can here a hint of influence in it. very electronic, featuring the voices of many other persons, other than himself. NIN is one of my favorite bands, and so is tweaker. i recommend that all of you buy this cd if you enjoy good music, which this most certainly is. it is always in my cd player. just check it out, you'll be happy
Not NIN.......2003-06-05
This is mostly calm, thoughtful, synth pop and alternative. For some reason though Vrenna thought it'd be a good idea to put (generally awful) techno intermission tracks between the real songs.
1. Linoleum - heavy synth pop and great vocals, but the guitar is out of place(8/10)
2. Years From Now - aggrivating techno, kinda like and intermission (1/10)
3. Swamp - industrial dance music and drum loops that build up to funky country guitars and pounding agressive drumming (10/10)
4. Turned - yet another techno intermission, less aggrivating though (3/10)
5. Happy Child - deep and introspective lyrics, emotional singing and well done instrumentation (10/10)
6. The Drive-bye - weird sampling and haunting indian music, the only good intermission (6.5/10)
7. Take Me Alive - melodic singing and upbeat bass n' drums. i really like the bluesy guitar work after each chorus (8/10)
8. Susan - harsh grating industrial dance. very reminiscent of Wumspcut, except it's catchier (4.5/10)
9. Microsize Boy - digitized vocals and beats too catchy to be industrial and to heavy to be pop (9/10)
10. Full Cup of Coffee - really long and boring (3/10)
11. Empty Sheet of Paper - dance and techno [intro to "After All"] (4/10)
12. After All - worse instrumentation than the first Craig Wedren song, but better singing (7/10)
13. Come Play - techno and reggae (3/10)

In this beautifully chosen program of mostly a cappella arrangements, Robert Shaw and the Robert Shaw Chamber Singers deliver the Christmas story in tones of gentle and moving splendor. The carols and sacred settings recorded here are all of an intimate sort, and the rapturous, gently expressive realizations Shaw and his singers give them prove unfailingly appealing. Particularly moving is the newest work on the disc, a setting of "O magnum mysterium" by the American composer Morten Lauridsen. Franz Biebl's "Ave Maria" is another gem, as is the arrangement by Healy Willan of the French carol "What Is This Lovely Fragrance?" The offering includes a pair of chorales from Bach's Christmas Oratorio and two wonderful Christmas works by Benjamin Britten: "A Hymn to the Virgin" and A Ceremony of Carols, both well done, even if the sound of sopranos and altos (rather than boy trebles) in the latter takes some getting used to. --Ted Libbey
Customer Reviews:
Beautiful.......2007-02-16
The music is beautiful of course. The Robert Shaw Chorale is a high quality group of singers, and the arrangements they sing are really nice. Because of the age of the recording today's standards of equpment and tonal quality simply weren't available but the upgrade from analog vinyl was well-done. I shall look for more of these.
Robert Shaw Chorale.......2007-01-10
This is an excellent ablum. The music is lovely and quite varied. While there are many of the familiar favorites, there are also many new and different songs and the whole CD is a delight to listen to.
a perfect Ceremony of Carols!.......2005-12-22
This is the finest recording of Britten's A Ceremony of Carols I've ever come across, and there are plenty of versions to choose from. The King's College Choir rendition suffers from overstuffed acoustics, a constant with that choir, and their recording of Ceremony of Carols falls short in the requisite rhythmic clarity and intensity. The Christ Church, Oxford version is plodding, and lacks sparkle. Harry Christopher's The Sixteen come close, with marvelous sonics and ecstatic diction, but fall apart in the exacting 'This Little Babe' round with uneven cohesion, and strange stressed notes that ruin the waterfall effect so felicitously construed by Britten. I've not heard Britten's own conducted version, but he scrupulously insisted on boy trebles, and it's difficult if not impossible to conjure a more perfect rendering than the one given here by Shaw and his Chamber Singers. 'This Little Babe' is incomparable in each and all of its rapid fire contours, which is no mean feat. Mezzo-soprano Nanette Soles deserves special mention for incandescent singing on 'That Younge Child". The luminous pacing of 'There is no rose of such virtue' is notable, and to his credit Shaw employs the ecclesiastical pronunciation of the various Latin passages, unlike The Sixteen (and most other English choir recordings of this piece) who insist on an idiomatic British pronunciation of Latin, which offers nothing but distraction. Some will prefer boy treble singers, an attractive option, but for high musical values and the art they inevitably enshrine, it's impossible to be disappointed with this profoundly wrought version of Ceremony of Carols. Bach's 'Break Forth, O beauteous heavenly light' is just right, and I'd not heard 'Heavenly Light' by Aleksandr Kopylov; both are favorable additions to an excellent recording. Recommended.
Brilliant compilation.......2005-03-16
This is an absolutely outstanding collection of carols - some of them well-known, some of them obscure. As a choral singer, I've had the pleasure of singing many of these pieces, and I was delighted when I found them all in one place, and done by an ensemble so accomplished as the Robert Shaw Chamber Singers! It just isn't Christmas for me without this recording.
Didn't care for it that much.......2004-12-27
I prefer to hear the voices and the words of the carols, and this one has too much other sound (maybe even the use of massed voices); I have a hard time hearing what they are singing.
