Album Description
Hugely anticipated 2007 debut album from the Britpopsters. Recorded with long term producer Gavin Monahan at his Magic Garden Studios in Wolverhampton and mixed by Mark `Spike' Stent at Olympic Studios. The Twang are a gang but they're a hardworking gang, they're from the normal life lived in towns and cities across the country but they want more and they are getting it. Most importantly, they've achieved their initial goal; to make this record and document the world as they see it, the world as they, and their friends (who are a huge part of this story and this album), live it. They are the most talked about band of this year but they are also one of the brightest hopes to emerge from the UK in years. 12 tracks including the singles 'Wide Awake' and 'Either Way'. B-Unique.

Madchester redux.......2007-06-17
Is it the early to mid 90s all over again? That's what I thought when I first heard tracks from an earlier EP, songs like "Ice Cream Sundae" and "Either Way". I've never fallen out of love with the sounds of that scene and it seems neither have The Twang. You cannot miss the influences from the Mondays, Northside, Inspirals, and Space Monkeys in this music. Check out "The Neighbour", which channels Northside like no band I know, for good or bad. The EP I easily give 4.5 stars to.
Now for the full length release. All the EP songs are present but alas they are easily still the best tracks. The "new" tracks are more poppy (e.g. "Two Lovers") yet unmistakably Twang. On the strength of the earlier tunes and "Don't Wait Up" on the full length, I'm going to rate this a 4. Put me in the "like" camp regarding the vocal stylings of the lead singer.
Good band, lousy singer.......2007-06-10
These guys mix a funk ska rap oy spoken word scuffle rock with a lot of four letter words and despite being solid in terms of composition and writing, this is something you are either going to like or hate, and I don't need to tell you what I feel about it. The pity is that in many places they show they have what it takes to be far more interesting. "Push the Ghosts" could be a nice rock anthem with a little work on the chorus, but the singer (not really, he just talks fast for the most part) intrudes way to much and wrecks it. "Got me Sussed" could work as well, with a little discipline in the writing, but again the lead singer so dominates everything that you can't focus on the good parts of their sound. I see no hope, unless some other members of the band involved in the songwriting move on and do better. Or they dump Phil.

A More Mature HMS.......2006-03-02
Lemon Tongue was Honeymoon Suite's first album in over a decade, and it appears the band has grown up a bit during their absence. Like their countrymen in Harem Scarem, Honeymoon Suite's music has matured on later releases. The big hooks, prominent keyboards, and catchy choruses that were such a big part of the band's AOR sound in the 80's have taken a backseat to smarter lyrics, better songwriting, and a more melodic approach.
Does it work? If you're not expecting the band's classic sound, then yes. Lemon Tongue is a very enjoyable album, and some of the songs here are simply beautiful. They may even be comparable to latter-day Marillion in terms of beauty and emotion.
That being said, I think the band should have stuck a little closer to their classic sound. Lemon Tongue is more mature than Racing after Midnight, but it's also less fun to listen to. At times I forgot I was listening to a rock album at all. Even Amazon labels the band an "alternative rock" act. I'm not necessarily looking for the Big Prize Part II, but an approach that combines the best of the band's older and newer sounds (like what Harem Scarem is doing these days) would work better.
Ultimately, Lemon Tongue is worth checking out, as long as you can leave your expectations at the door. It's not going to make everyone happy, but I think it may pleasantly surprise people.
This is What I Know.......2003-09-15
The music of Honeymoon Suite will move you. If you have a pulse and at least one functioning ear - you need this CD. Songs like "Gone" and "Lemon Tongue" throw an instant party for you, no matter what kind of day you've had. At the other end of the spectrum is a jewel like "Into Me, Into You" which is as beautiful and potent as watching a sunrise in Venice. These guys are true artists disguised as a rock band. The songs are honest and exposed without pretense. Honeymoon Suite has opened a vein and bled true emotion into this effort. Brilliant.
Lemon Tongue Rocks.......2002-02-15
This is Honeymoon Suite's first studio album in 10 years. It was well worth the wait. Derry and Johnnie have put together a great album and have an excellent band backing them. They are still performing shows and the shows are still awesome. All of the songs on "Lemon Tongue" are great, but there are a couple that are really good. "What I Know", "So Hard", and "Knew You When" are great. They are very high energy songs with good lyrics to match. Don't worry, they still have the great harmonies and choruses on the tracks "Undone" and "Into me Into You". You will definitely enjoy this album. ;)
The Honeymoon is NOT OVER!!!.......2002-01-29
Honeymoon Suite's latest studio CD is GREAT! This is there first studio album since 1991's Monsters Under The Bed and it is GREAT! Derry & Johnnie have gathered a great band on this effort. The songs still have the vintage Honeymoon Suite sound but with a modern edge to them. You will not be disappointed by this one. Get your copy now...

Very Haunting and Memorable!.......2002-12-13
Another hit (at least in the UK) for Alison Moyet. Really. This went to #4 there, but was not marketed here, so didn't show up on our charts. Too bad, because this is true recorded talent. I find very few songs that I can listen to in the top 40 that I can't feel is a little bubble-gum.
This song gives the hope that there are still some artists out there that sing to the way they feel, and reaching for originality without trying to sound like everyone else.
This is truly a work of art. Alison should be considered one of the most versatile female vocalists today. Mariah and Brittney can't compare to the depth of Alison's soul.
another great voice out there............2002-10-30
What a voice, arrangement and production on this
her first single from her lastest work, HOMETOWN.
I'm not sure where this song is going but for
the lucky ones who seek out great music, this
is a real treat. I'm hoping she gets out and tours
and music lovers round the world will find this
great music a nice change of pace. HOMETOWN over all
is great collection of tunes.
Only the silence is over.......2002-09-10
In "Should I Feel That It's Over", Alison Moyet avoids all nonsense and makes a great big target of your heartstrings - but without ever setting foot in schmaltz territory. Simple and melodic, the song starts out with a gently aching verse before heading, full sail, into a sweeping and beautiful chorus. Be prepared: this song will wedge itself in your brain and you will find yourself humming it at odd moments. The sign of a proper pop song. This single is the real MacCoy. Full marks and welcome back, ma'am!
The two bonus cuts are also very high quality tracks recorded during the "Hometime" sessions. "Tonguetied" is sweetly melodic while "Nobody's Darling" ventures into sixties guitar-led territory. The choruses on both are killers and the latter track has odd hints of hey-day Blondie.
