Album Description

These indigenous ayahuasca songs are recorded live in the Peruvian Amazon Jungle. The ayahuasquero who is conducting a ceremony, sings these traditional and sacred songs with the intent for creating an environment of healing and protection for the participants in the ceremony. Ayahuasca, a visionary and healing plant medicine, has been used by Amazonian shamans for millennia. This CD takes us on a magical journey into the spirit of Peruvian Ayahuasca Shamanism. One hour and ten minutes of continuous singing.

This is something you should keep close to yourself and listen in those times when everything else fails.

Also, a must for people to learn that there is much more to ayahuasca than a simple colorful trip.

I have used this CD in a huasca ceremony here in Brazil. I must say that the latinamerican shamanism of this CD is really authentic. The magical effects (in the light of huasca) were very strong, so much as the alive songs that we call "chamadas" ("callings") we use to conduct in the session. Absolutely amazing!

Icaros are songs that have been given to an apprentice shaman by the spirit of the plant or animal that is the focus of his/her attention and journey. The Icaros on this CD are very well done, and highly recommended for anyone interested in researching traditional use of Yage in a native context. The singers voices ring with the truth and innocence of children, reminding us of who we really are. note: the lyrics are by no means explicit, quite the opposite as they cleanse the enviornment in preparation for sacred work. I found myself singing along, and still hum the very catchy icaros long after hearing them.

like its title suggests, this is an album like a live wire gyrating in your skull/laceration of spinal chord, strangely comfortably, oscillations e.g. visions of washboard scraping melted ragas or rags,. required listening for those who have tried the particular species of hallucinogenic cactus that must have particularly influenced the desert rose. if you don't know what i'm talking about maybe you should go down to south america and walk around in the canyons where the plant grows and eat some of it yourself, rather than listen to an album you may not otherwise understand.

Experimental folk--ranging from Americana to Indian ragas--make this album strange and wonderful. While not for the faint of heart or the tradition bound, Pelt delivers a belt of imagination to the folk genre. Give this a try if you've got big ears flapping for something new.

disappointing.......2004-11-11

I doggedly sat through both painful cd's of this album, optimistically waiting for a glimmer of actual music to emerge. I was disappointed. Imagine the under-drone of bagpipes (without the music) together with the sound of some tortured cicadas and someone scraping their fingernail over a blackboard, and you've got the gist of the album.

This is one of the best psychedelic/Goa - Trance - CD's I know.
Of corse its a realy modern CD with pushing beats, but its buildung a great athmosphere.
Its melting post modern with ancient culture traditions - for a new way.
If you want to here sounds of silence, please go into a forest or into a flotation tank !! :)

Ayahuasca Music: Look Somewhere Else!.......2001-03-07

I purchased this CD in Amsterdam back in the Summer of 1999. I was shocked to find that it was basically straight-ahead techno-type dance music spiced up with samples of Shipibo shamans and Don Agustin Rivas. Nothing very original there (if you want to hear good uses of similar samples, try "Mother Ayahuasca" on the "Kiva" CD by Steve Roach, Michael Stearns and Ron Sunsinger). However, the CD is well-designed, and has a wonderful little booklet about ayahuasca in English and Dutch (?). If you're curious about traditional, contemporary or "post-modern" uses of ayahuasca, whether in South America or Europe, the booklet serves as a good introduction. If you want to hear insipid techno with pilfered sound samples, this is also good. However, if you want to hear "the real thing," I suggest you fly down to South America (or New Mexico), drink the brew and listen.
