Product Description
Now finally, the album we've all been waiting for is out, and man, was it ever worth the wait! The amazing thing about Suzy & Los Quattro is that they can sound not just pure and sweet, but sexy and exciting, and all at the same time. The band has released records on Germany's Screaming Apple and Japan's Wizzard-in-Vinyl, recorded and toured with TV Smith of The Adverts and have been playing all over Spain and also briefly in Europe. And they did it all before releasing this full-length album. No Tomorrow label. 2005.

There's no better example of American pop culture's hall-of-mirrors ethos than producer Alan Carr's relentlessly buoyant 1978 film adaptation of the stage musical Grease. Inspired by that decade's rampant 50's nostalgia, it now paradoxically evokes the campy 70's excesses that spawned it. That sense of recycled decades in collision is underscored repeatedly on this deluxe, double-disc Grease-fest, especially on the set's second disc of bonus materials that spans vintage singles of the title track (its instrumental B-side) and "Greased Lightnin'," some sing-along karaoke tracks, and a handful of alternately slick/techo-savvy remixes (originally produced for the film's 20th anniversary) that are testament to its enduring, era-defying appeal. The original soundtrack itself has been treated to a stellar digital remastering that fills disc one, and remains a joyous monument to camp, sheer ambition, and exuberant nostalgic illusions. Includes a slip-cased, double-fold-out case and new booklet with complete song lyrics. --Jerry McCulley

5 out of 5 stars You 're The One That I Want.......2007-04-03

The complete Grease experience. This cd is a two disc-set with disc one being the complete soundtrack, while disc two is all bonus material including the popular Grease Megamix. Fans of the movie would want to make this cd an essential part of their music collection.

5 out of 5 stars Prepare to be transported to Summer Nights.......2006-03-26

Well here we are with a great piece of history.

This album has not only captured the spirit of the movie but the essence of a 1970's version of the 1950's. I have seen this play live and yes some things are different. Yet I grew up on the movie. I even find myself singing some of the songs now and then. Of course you will never see me singing "Look At Me, I'm Sandra Dee." However I do keep this in my car as great driving music. This album is not you can pick apart and say things like missing songs, in the wrong order etc. It sounds and feels just right. There will be many versions yet this one is the Grease - Deluxe Edition [ORIGINAL RECORDING REMASTERED] [SOUNDTRACK] gives you more information about each of the tracks allowing you to feel that you have inside information and to feel that you know more of what went into the making of each song.

5 out of 5 stars Great Soundtrack & Fun Extras from an Enduring Musical........2004-07-06

I'm enjoying listening to this great soundtrack that I loved as a child after a long hiatus. I had it on 8-track 25 years ago. So it's fitting that I should get the 25th Anniversary Edition on CD. The 24 songs from the movie are just as everyone remembers them, so I'll talk about the Bonus Disc, which contains 10 alternative versions of the songs plus 2 previously unreleased instrumentals from the film.

Track 1 on the Bonus Disc is an instrumental version of the film's theme, "Grease", written and produced by Barry Gibb. Frankie Valli's voice has been replaced by a saxophone. The chorus is vocal, but the voices are not those in the original song. You could use this as a sing-along version, as it would be easy to sing over the sax. Tracks 2-5 are officially sing-along versions. "Summer Nights" includes the chorus vocals from the film and sounds good. "You're the One That I Want" has new chorus vocals of questionable merit. "Sandy" is a new arrangement. It's not as good as the film version, but you can sing along. Track 6 is the single version of "Greased Lightning" that you may have heard on the radio back in the day. It's differs from the original in that the bad words have been replaced for radio airplay. Tracks 7-8 are previously unreleased instrumentals from the film. "Greased Up and Ready to Go" is lively. Tracks 9-10 are mixes that I occasionally hear on the radio. The "Grease Megamix" and the "Grease Dream Mix" are fun, if awkward. Tracks 11-12 are Martian Remixes of "Summer Nights" and "You're the One That I Want". They retain the original vocals, but set them to a Latin rhythm. They make pretty good dance tracks.

This 2-disc set isn't in a jewel case. The case is paperboard with 4 panels that fold out. This is inside of a clear vinyl slip case on which the tracks are written. This isn't convenient packaging. On the bright side, the case won't crack in the mail. Tucked inside one of the panels is a booklet that contains lyrics and credits.

The "Grease: 25th Anniversary Deluxe Edition" is a terrifically fun soundtrack to one of the all-time great movie musicals. And for all those preteen girls who go wild over the movie with each new generation, the bonus material is perfect for parties and horsing around.

3 out of 5 stars If You Love Grease, You'll Love This - Only 1 Major Flaw.......2004-05-15

Disc 1 is like the original album, which I also own. 1 major flaw is that "Love Is A Many Splendored Thing" cuts off at the very end of it! I was upset by this, hence the 3 stars instead of 4. Disc 2 is a lot of fun w/some remixes and sing-a-longs, all in all, I'm pretty happy with it being that I'm a HUGE Grease fan. If you like Grease, you'll love this, it's fun. Too bad when they "remastered" it, they didn't catch there 1 mistake. Oh well, at least I have it on another album.

1 out of 5 stars NO GOOD! KEEP AWAY!!!.......2003-12-23

Yeah, great songs on here. Only problem is that the members of republica didn't even know about it until AFTER it came out, so I won't be buying it. If you're interested in Saffron (the lead singer), check out S W A R M, her new project. Ciao.

5 out of 5 stars What happened?! I was "ready to go" for a 3rd album!.......2002-08-23

Republica's self-titled album (1996) is one of my favorite listens, every track flows together and connects styles, energy, and unique vocal flavor. I love Saffron and I enjoyed their follow-up "Speed Ballads." I'm only saddened that this Best-Of collection seems to imply that they won't be putting anything else out.

If you have the CD's, it's a waste of money. But if you don't, it's a cheap way to get lots of great electronica songs you'll get addicted to fast. I don't know what's going on with the band, but I'll cross my fingers anyway that maybe they will release something new at some point.

5 out of 5 stars Best of... ??.......2002-08-05

My best guess is that somebody needs some spending money, because they only have 2 CDs out to begin with (which are both excellent). There are only a few songs missing, if you have one of the CDs already, just buy the other one instead of wasting money on this.

    Album Description

Bang Tango was one of LA's most successful groups from the tail end of the L.A . metal scene and this music is currently enjoying a renaissance as fans rediscover their favorite bands of the era. Few of these artists are as on top of their game in the way Bang Tango is today, as their hard rocking new CD "Ready To Go " reveals.

    Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Not what I remember, but I still LIKE it!!!.......2006-12-13

Being a long time fan of the so-called Funk-Rock sub-genre (LOVE Primus and the Chili Peppers) I got into Bang Tango 15 years ago and grew to believe that Kyle Kyle was one of the better bass players, ranking him right under Claypool (all time bass god) and Flea (2nd by a hair).

I own their 1st 3 CDs (3rd being live), LOVE "Dancin' on Coals" and always wondered what happened to them. (All I have around here is Best Buy and Wal-Mart so I had no idea!!) So, one day, on a lark I started searching Amazon for bands I "wondered what happened to" and found that Bang Tango (well...Leste anyway) never truly went away, they just went independent.

So I immediately ordered both "From the Hip" and this title. It's quite good, though a lot different and as a few reviewers have already mentioned, is completely "funkless". And upon reading the packaging I realized that it's not even the same band, just the singer and a bunch of new guys (guess Leste owns the name!) So I'm guessing the rest of the band (Kyle Kyle mostly) is where the funk came from and I have to say I miss it!!

I also have to wonder why Leste left the funk out this time around, considering how popular and successful Primus, The RHCP and others are today, I can't imagine it's a marketing decision. Makes me want to go find out where the rest of the original members are now.

Bottom line, if you liked old Tango you may miss the funk like I do, but this CD is still worth the price of admission.

    3 out of 5 stars bango tango.......2006-04-14

I recently purchased the two beautiful creatures cds. I really liked these cds so I purchased this bango tango cd. Its a pretty good cd, but its not one that I would listen to over and over again. the music is just a lot more mellow than the beautiful creatures cds.

5 out of 5 stars Very Impressive Outing By a Real Rock 'n' Roll Band.......2006-01-23

I like Bang Tango. And, when I saw they had a new CD out, I was quite curious and decided to give it a spin. Boy, I'm glad I did!
Something about this record just seemed very rock 'n' roll to me just by the title and the packaging. So when I held it in my hand, I couldn't wait to rip it open and pop it in. And, from the first guitar lick, I knew I made the right choice. It's very metal. Very cool indeed.
Joe Leste returns to his original band of fame as he releases this record after a highly acclaimed release by Beautiful Creatures, his other band. This album, though, is Bang Tango and not Beautiful Creatures. And, that is not a bad thing. While I liked Beautiful Creatures, a slightly more melodic album is more befitting the Bang Tango name and legacy. And, it delivers!
As I said, the opening cut titled Ready to Go really kicks off the album in a great way and the energy stays true throughut the record. Track 3 titled It Ain't Easy might possibly be the best song on the record as it has the best guitar and musical bridge I've heard in years. That solo really makes the song and frankly the song should be played on the radio if there were any justice in rock 'n' roll.
Rainy Day and Most Important Thing are two beautiful songs with Rainy Day actually sounding a bit like a heavier version of the late Beatles sound and a sound attributed to Guns N' Roses as well. Great musicianship as I complimented in It Ain't Easy are on display here and once again it is criminal that Rainy Day isn't in heavy rotation at every real rock channel in America.
Other great stand-out songs include The Other Side, She Knows Better, and Save Myself for You. All of these songs have a different feel with different range by Joe Leste but a constant high quality rock 'n' roll feel that does not apologize for being rock 'n' roll complete with solos and attitude.
If you are a Beautiful Creatures fan and loved their debut album and Deuce, you'll probably also get a kick out of Bang Tango's Ready to Go. It's not as heavy as BC but it certainly does deliver a lot of the same elements that make BC great. And, if you are a Bang Tango fan, this album is what all the real rock bands that came from their genre should sound like in new releases. Melodic, hard, and catchy. There is no futile attempts to be "cool" on this record. It just feels like Leste wanted to do something for himself and for the Bang Tango fans. And, I am appreciative of it! Pick this and Deuce up together!

    5 out of 5 stars Beautiful Creature.......2006-01-19

If you liked this CD. Get Beautiful Creatures two CD's. For this matter, just get the Beautiful Creatures CD's. They are pure 80's rock. oh, this CD is good too. ;)

5 out of 5 stars MR. JOE HAS QUITE A SOUL!.......2005-07-20

THIS ENTIRE CD ROCKS MY WORLD, CAN'T SEEM TO GET IF OFF THE CD PLAYER TO HEAR THE REST OF MY BANG TANGO COLLECTION! SO FULL OF EMOTION, YOU'LL SURELY FEEL IT RIGHT DOWN TO YOUR SOUL! EVERY TRACK IS KINDA GROOVIN' KINDA FUNKY KINDA MELODIC AND DEFINATELY LEAVES YOU WITH WANTING MORE! WHATEVER/WHOMEVER INSPIRES MR. LESTE TO BELT OUT SUCH ROCK---MAY GOD BLESS THEM!! ENJOY! KELLY

5 out of 5 stars "Ghosts of the Abyss Soundtrack".......2003-04-15

The music fits the film well. The best tune on the album is a remake of Darkness, Darkness (youngbloods 1967) sung by an unknown artist Lisa Torban. A voice that just makes you repeat the selection over and over.

Oh my goodness! This was the best 3D Imax I have ever seen! (and yes I've seen more than one). And the soundtrack made it as good as it is! The song at the end called Darkness, Darkness was so fantastic and made me cry so much! Best ever!

Certainly we expect to be rocked on our heels by dazzling licks from a twentysomething bluegrass guitar prodigy who's played with everyone from Ricky Skaggs and Jerry Douglas to the Dixie Chicks, Dolly Parton, and Rhonda Vincent. But what's startling about Bryan Sutton's self-produced and aptly-named first record (which features Skaggs, Parton, Douglas, and other distinguished guests) is how soulful, eclectic, and fully realized it is. Sure, there are hot leads aplenty on instrumental originals like "Decision at Glady Fork" and "Highland Rim," on traditional romps such as "Tater Patch," and on Sutton's reading of Bill Monroe's "Brown County Breakdown." But there are also superb renditions of jazz staples like the Stephane Grappelli/Django Reinhardt chestnut "Minor Swing" and the Gershwins' "Lady Be Good," plus a fervent version of U2's "When Love Comes to Town" featuring Jeff White on vocals. Sutton masterfully shifts into the role of tasteful sideman as Parton takes a haunting vocal turn on her own "Smoky Mountain Memories" and as gospel singers Becky and Sonya Isaacs deliver a lovely interpretation of the traditional "The Water Is Wide." --Bob Allen

    Customer Reviews:

    5 out of 5 stars A Guitar Players Pleasure.......2002-05-10

Bryan Sutton is a guitar player extraordinare and this CD is an excellent recording from him! I can't say enough about the picking on this album. It is so very enjoyable. Bryan's picking is clean and precise. This is a great bluegrass album with many of the top flight bluegrass pickers of today.

To make it short and sweet - buy this album, you will be impressed!

4 out of 5 stars Smooth, but not too smooth.......2001-03-15

No doubt about it, Bryan Sutton can really play. Decision At Glady Fork and Minor Swing, in particular, capture his technical ability and his musicianship. He swings and flies along, seemingly without any possibility of making a mistake. At first listen, I thought the the music on this disc, for all its polish, was bit soulless; and while none of the songs will make your skin crawl like that high lonesome sound of yore, this is a beautifully contrsucted disc, with a great variety of tunes. It may not have any of the terror of the Stanley Brothers, but it will make a great addition to anyone's growing acoustic music collection.

    4 out of 5 stars The Tarheel's Vamp.......2001-03-08

Bryan Sutton blazes on the acoustic guitar. The different guitars played are lovingly displayed on the insert. Sutton who is from Asheville, North Carolina was part of Ricky Skaggs' Kentucky Thunder band. This CD is full of fast instrumentals like the opener, "Decision at Glady Fork." "Highland Rim," "Walk Among the Woods," "Grover's Glen," and the fast little reel "Tater Patch" all display similar dexterity. A pitfall for a CD with many instrumentals is that they may start to sound similar. For the most part, Sutton escapes this dilemma. Ricky Skaggs' mandolin and Aubrie Haynie's fiddle spark the bluegrass tune "Blue Night" with a guest vocal by Pat Enright of the Nashville Bluegrass Band. Bill Monroe's "Brown County Breakdown" is remade as a fast guitar romp with Haynie's blazing fiddle dueling with Sutton's guitar. Sutton also recasts a number of songs. From U2's "Rattle & Hum," he takes "When Love Comes to Town" and gives it an old-timey country feel. "Minor Swing" catches a bluegrass groove with Haynie's fiddle joining Sutton on guitar. Gospel singer Becky Isaacs Bowman does a stately folk vocal on the lovely "The Water Is Wide." Sutton played on Dolly Parton's "The Grass Is Blue"; she returns the favor with a passionate vocal on her song "Smoky Mountain Memories." George and Ira Gershwin's "Lady Be Good" is given a great treatment. The three tunes which honor his grandfather in "Chief's Medley" take you to a time in the North Carolina mountains when an 8 year old learned to play from watching his granddad. The CD closes with a stunning instrumental of just solo guitar, "The Good Deed." The wistful emotions Sutton wrenches from the guitar and tune are worth the price of the CD. If you've heard Sutton on The Dixie Chic's "Fly" CD or with Skaggs or Parton or are just looking for a strong acoustic guitar, this is one you'll want to take home!

    5 out of 5 stars Unbelievable!.......2000-10-14

I don't rate many albums with 5 stars. They have to really knock me for a loop and this album does the trick. A great mixture as stated by others of traditional bluegrass along with a beautiful rendition of Reinhardt and Grapelli's Minor Swing and Gershwins Lady Be Good. I also was very impressed with each of the vocal tracks which added a unique flavor to the collection of songs. The harmony of the Isaacs on The Water is Wide was worth the album alone.

5 out of 5 stars Bryan's success not surprising to those who knew him when..........2000-09-25

I went to Enka High School with Bryan, in Asheville,NC,and had the opportunity to perform with him on many occasions. The best moments, however were the impromptu sessions either before or after rehearsals, when purely improvising, Bryan would completely enrichen and illuminate with his accompaniment, whatever piece was being played. Absolutely the most phenomenal talent I have ever witnessed. I recall one day, shortly before graduation, Bryan and I were talking about what the future held. Bryan asked me, half-kiddng, if in the event I didn't do anything in music could he have my songs. My long since forgotten, painfully youthful, overwrought songs! I doubt he even remembers the conversation. I was absolutely flattered. Funny stuff. Of course my chosen path has taken me away from the music industry as a profession, but to no one's surprise, Bryan is enjoying the success few deserve and even less achieve. Let me assure you, Bryan's boundless talent is exceeded only by his genuine humility. Congratulations, Bryan, on your first solo album.

    5 out of 5 stars Phenomenal.......2006-02-28

I had a feeling I would like this album based on the 30-second clips available online. However, when I finally listened to it, I was deeply impressed. Not only are the vocals outstanding, if there is such a thing as a "banjo riff," they've got some great ones. I can honestly say I love every single track. I highly recommend it to anyone interested the Stanley Brothers (and you should be if you want to understand bluegrass music), or great music with an uplifting message.

5 out of 5 stars Great Gospel Set.......2004-02-03

This album is a good rythmic up-tempo soul stirring set of Stanley Brothers Bluegrass gospel. I really like the tune "Paul and Silas" taken from Acts. The Brothers voices really merge and compliment each other throughout this treasured sample of works. Also "Are You Washed in the Blood" is a haunting melody that harkens back to the early Appalachian gospel sound. Those two songs alone are unique sounding treasures that will really inspire a Christian life. This album is excellent because of the tight harmonies and awesome instrumental work. If you are looking for a simple but totally powerful and authentic message in your music do not miss out on the Stanley Brothers.

3 out of 5 stars English is an asset and a drawback.......2004-07-20

The best thing about this recording of Carmen is the libretto. Conductor David Parry penned this facile and dramatic English translation. He avoids the pitfalls of literal translation to achieve an idiomatic flow that matches the rhythm of the original lyrics. I use this as a reference libretto for any of the French Carmens.

Unfortunately, the performance suffers from being sung in English. The singers declaim their parts with such proper British diction that Carmen comes across as a school marm. The spoken dialog is delivered beat for deliberate beat and is dripping with reverb. It makes the plaza, tavern and mountain pass all sound like a sewer pipe.

This is a good first Carmen for someone trying to understand the work. The libretto itself is a good investment for further listening. For an enjoyable performance with an emphasis on character and action, I recommend Regina Resnik on the London Double Decker set.

5 out of 5 stars You Will Love Opera After Hearing Carmen In English.......2004-02-09

What a perfect introduction to opera. This newly released recording will surely get you hooked into opera. Carmen, a French opera by Georges Bizet, is the most recognizable and most popular in the opera world. It's famous melodies- the overture, the Habanera, The Toreador Song have all been featured in everything from cellular phone ring tones to Superbowl Commercial (last year's Superbowl with The "Opera In English" label has been making Italian operas into English for a number of years now. Also on the market are Verdi's La Traviata in English (with soprano Valerie Masterson as Violetta) Handel's Julius Caesar with Janet Baker and even Wagner's epic Ring Of The Nibeling sung in English. This is a terrific recording and I highly recommend it if you want to get into opera. Listen to this version first and then try the real, original French version Bizet had written. Patricia Bardon is sensational, sexy and dramatic as Carmen.

The real strength of this version is the dynamic drama. With the advantage of being sung in English, we get better insight on characters' emotions and motives, and we understand the drama a lot better. Carmen is all about great drama. Bizet drew the plot from the French writer Prosper Merimee's dark short story. Carmen is the ultimate femme fatale- a devil-may-care, sexy Gypsy living in Spain, seduces the conservatively raised soldier Don Jose, stealing him away from his fiancee, the passive Micaela, living a life of underground smuggling and rowdy taverns. "Habanera" and "The Gypsy Song and Dance" are very expressive of Carmen's extraordinarily liberal lifestyle. Don Jose, however, has fallen deeply in love- as he shows us in his song/aria "The Flower Song". But Carmen soon becomes tired of his constancy. Don Jose wants a committed, monogamous relationship with Carmen. But Carmen will not submit to love, since she is first and foremost a carnal creature. Eventually, she falls for the handsome Toreador Escamillo. Don Jose, consumed by jealousy, stabs Carmen at a bullfight after Carmen declares her love for Escamillo and rejects Don Jose's love. Don Jose's crazed, obscessive personality shines through in the English version as well. This tragedy has been done in English before so don't think this is the first time. Back in the 50's, there was a film, starring black actors "Carmen Jones" which was treated the same way as this opera- more like an English Broadway musical and with the dubbed singing voice of Marilyn Horne as Carmen. All in all, this recording is excellent.

      5 out of 5 stars A wholly credible "Carmen" -- finally!.......2003-09-17

This recording really sells "Carmen" as a drama. Although I have two other recordings of this opera and have seen it performed several times, it never quite worked for me dramatically. But thanks to the fine performances, conducting, and translation here, I've become a "Carmen" convert. Producing a good English-language performance of a foreign opera, especially a warhorse like "Carmen," is much more difficult than it might appear. You need performers who not only can sing the parts (of course) but also can sing *English* and make it halfway intelligible and make it sound like English and make it dramatically convincing to English-speakers. The singers on this recording do an excellent job all around. Don't be put off if you don't recognize their names -- they are up to the task musically and (especially) in their acting. Admittedly, as with *all* English-language recordings, some passages are very hard to understand without reading along, but most of the time the words are clear and effective. I would recommend this recording to any opera beginner or opera lover, even those who normally turn up their noses at performances in translation.

      4 out of 5 stars I love Carmen!.......2003-08-15

I do. I can think of no other opera with more melodic inventiveness, and few others with so sure a dramatic pulse. Carmen is popular and it thrills me to say that it is also a very good opera - not always true of popular things.

And what of this recording? Carmen sits well in English, so it is good to hear in translation, although some of the detais in the text jar. Escamillo refers to Jose as "my dear", which sounds rather peculiar, and the guide's line to Micaela: "it's not exactly inviting, is it?" sounds distinctly Middle England rather than Rural Spain. Some of the performers, not least Carmen herself, make the words work, although there are long tracts, especially with the chorus, where the language is distinctly indistinct.

The soloists are, by and large, strong. Patricia Bardon's deep, Handel-friendly voice adapts well to Carmen and she colours the music with phenomenal detail, sounding sexy and provocative from the start with an edge of pride and anger that emerges as the show goes on. She is out of her depth above the stave, though, and some extra top notes in the second act don't show her off to her best advantage. I have previously said that Julian Gavin is poorly served by recordings, though here he sounds much more even and gives a thrilling and musical performance (but his wooden spoken lines let him down). Mary Plazas is a lovely Micaela, rich-voiced and sincere (and word-perfect), but Garry Magee sounds miscast as Escamillo, lacking the ballast at the bottom of the voice to do justice to this tricky role.

The supporting cast is good (Mary Hegarty seems to do nothing but Frasquita these days!) but the really treasurable thing is the conducting. Stepping out of Italian Ottocento, David Parry turns his hand to this French Comedie with an appropriate lightness of touch. His pacing and handling of the set pieces is exemplary and the enrtractes go with a real swing.

A pleasure, then, for the Carmen naive or a novelty for the Carmen-acquainted. I nearly wrote Carmen-weary - but I don't think it's possible.
