C'MON!!!!!! This is one of the best records ever by one of the best bands ever! James Hall has an audible charisma that oozes everything amazing about rock and roll. Its a record of variable textures for sure but consistantly keeps the grind, dirt and power that makes it great as a whole. This and the other albums James has brought us are incredibly original for the first 10 spins and after the songs are memorized a true coneseur cant help but relisten and reslisten to see what makes the record tick.....and the infuencial range is enormous....its heavy, street smart funky, subversive, angry and enlightened by the ills of society all at the same time.PHAWKING BRILLIANT!!!! The mark of an amazing artist is when the influences are both hidden and apparent synonomously but always wrapped in sincerity......Pleasure Club is as broad and sincere as they come!

What's wrong with you people? In an era where mediocre rock (Strokes, Yeah Yeah Yeahs) is being championed with disturbing regularity, the Godlike genius of James Hall is still being ignored. To think, this guy has to stagger around the back alleys of the music business when he's been responsible for some of the best rock music of the last fifteen years. What an outrage! Here Comes the Trick merely confirms his greatness. Okay, it's a little watered down from the ferocity of Pleasure Club but no-one has penned a better rock album in the last five years. It's worth buying just for Roll Around, where Hall lets fly with those glorious vocals of his, let alone the mighty title track or cheesy funk of Days in Days out. This is pure unadulterated genius and it is truly a travesty that Mr. Hall has been ignored for so long. Have a heart, right this wrong.

WOW...Just...WOW!!!.......2003-01-12

Buy this album. I saw James Hall live at Smith's Old Bar in Atlanta and my wife and I were completely blown away. The raw energy and emotion James and the band communicate on the album only gets increased ten fold when you see him live. Their drummer, Jerome I think is his last name, is pure energy. Why James Hall is not an universal superstar absolutely baffles me and sums up all that is wrong with the music industry as a whole. This band is pure rock n' roll lead by James's song writing depth and soul. Listen to High-Steppin...one of my favorites.

There are alot of commercially profitable and popular bands floating around out there that could learn a thing or two from The Pleasure Club. Would someboby please give these guys their due air-time.

If you're a big music fan you've probably seen a lot of live performances in your time. You also probably have one performance inparticular that stands out against all others as the best show you've ever seen. Well, I also am a hugh fan of music and live performances and I estimate that i've seen 800 hundred to a thousand shows in my life so far. Out of all those shows, I have a mental list of the top ten most AMAZING performances i've ever seen and in that list I find James Hall's name atleast four times (along with FLAP, Built to spill, Jesus lizard, Beck, Yo la Tengo and Guided by Voices the Champs and Calexico deserve honorable mention). Your first thought when you see James perform is that he is strung out on somethin'.......illegal. Then the mesmerizing show comes to an end and a completely sober and friendly Mr. Hall can be seen walking through the audience with an arm full of cd's asking people if they enjoyed the show and want to buy a cd. the only thing James Hall is strung out on is the soul of music!! As far as his new Band and new cd goes, it rocks. It grows on you like a full belly after a great meal! What saddens me about the music biz nowwa dayz is that Multi-talented musicians like James Hall go virtually unnoticed because everyone is too god damn busy watching 'American Idol'. If you like the purity and unpretentious aspects of rockin' roll buy this CD! Go see him if he comes within a hundred miles of where you live. After a long absence I am very glad hes back recording and performing. James Hall is the prince of indie music.
