Customer Reviews:
good memories for me and fun "new" songs for my children.......2007-06-27
We had ordered this for "The Dukes of Hazzard" theme song for our 4yr old and our whole family has fallen in love with the cd. It makes me want to share some of the old fun and simple shows with my children. I forgot about some of those shows. It brings back good memories for my husband and me and the songs are new and exciting for our children. It's a nice change from children's cd's, but our children still think it's fun. The sound quality is good and the songs included on the cd are a great mix. I would definately recommend this one.
memories.......2007-02-22
This cd is excellent it has a lot of very good music and true to the original sound, Am getting a lot of enjoyment, highly recomended
TV Theme Songs.......2007-01-13
This is a great CD for people who watch a lot of TV -especially TV LAND and reruns of old shows when shows had actual theme songs. I took the CD to work and everyone loved trying to figure out what show the songs were from.
TV themes.......2006-07-05
Not all what I expected, not all of the tunes are the original recordings you remember as the TV themes.
Deja Vu.......2006-02-17
Listening to these familiar themes as performed by the original artists certainly brings back wonderful memories! I was particularly pleased, not only with the quality of the pieces, but with the actual performances themselves, just as we remembered them!

The Windy City alt-metal provocateurs Disturbed surprised everyone when their debut, The Sickness, sold over 2 million copies. Here, once again, the band's imperious chrome-domed vocalist David Draiman bleats out the band's messages of nonconformity, self-empowerment, and individuality with a passion and ferocity that hasn't been heard since the '60s--though there's little room for peace, love, and understanding in Disturbed's world. Instead, Draiman laces the band's message with equal parts rage, disgust, and menace, all delivered in a thundering voice that alternates from the lyrical to the grizzled. Ozzy Osbourne has called Disturbed the "future of metal," and he might be right; they have almost single-handedly plucked the genre out of the aggro dung heap and fueled it with intelligence. The band is just as aggressive here as on their debut, but they've lost some of their dark angst, and as a result have created a melodic, psychically lighter album, despite the fact that the CD kicks off with "Prayer," a conversation between Draiman and God, inspired by the singer's grandfather's death. --Jaan Uhelszki

For all those stupid people put there..........2007-05-09
Ok, first off, I'm not 13, I'm 18 and I was just looking around on Amazon for some cds, and I noticed some of the reviews on the Disturbed cds...the people who support this, I salute you, and for the people who don't...grrr...the people who say that its the same thing over and over, it's not! You don't hear the same guitar or the beat, and the people who say they have no talent, you go ahead and try to do that scream David does on, "Down with the Sickness.", I hope your throat bleeds when you try, because his does every concert...why on earth would someone do that every time, and might risk their speech? It's because they care so much about the band, and David wants to express his feelings so much to everyone on what kind of s*** he has gone through in his life...so to all of you Disturbed fans, let's push them aside, and keep going...
Distubed rocks-just not this time........2007-04-23
I love the other disturbed albums-this one though is somthing of a letdown. with the exeption of "liberate" its the same tune from begining to end.
Not great.
I love ten thousand fists though that whole album is teriffic!
Not my cup of tea !.......2007-04-18
Sorry but I don't like this, always the same distorded guitar, always the same riff, feel like it was the same song from the beginning 'til the end, poorly done !
Believe it!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2006-10-21
This is the weakest cd from DISTURBED but still Great. The reason I give it 5 stars for songs like prayer, remember and Liberate. It keeps it up there.
Reminiscent of the Lie.......2006-10-13
Disturbed was the band that introduced me into the genre of Rock and Heavy Metal when I heard songs from their first album, The Sickness, from the most unlikely sorce: Dragonball Z. Yes, Dragonball Z. Once I realized there was something better than cheesy video game music, I headed to the store and picked up my first ever CD: Believe. To be honest, at first the only thing that mattered was that it was heavy and it was loud. Since then, I have understood more behind the album and its lyrics.
After seeing the horrific events of 9/11 and the death of his own grandfather, singer David Draiman decided to pay tribute to both by writing more spiritual lyrics to go along with more melodic metal and returning to his Jewish, yes Jewish, faith. The album symbol itself is comprised of 4 religious symbols, including the Star of David and the Pentagram. It is not only the lyrics that have a spiritual theme. There is actually a very well written and inspiring piece of writing zig-zagging down the middle of the album booklet that is a very interesting read, even if you're typically not the kind of person to do that.
The problem that most fans of The Sickness may have is that there is no "Stupify" or "Down With the Sickness" on this album. The most upbeat and wild song on the entire album would probably be "Liberate" which is actually very well edited in the amended version, substituting "Motherf***er" for "Mothermother" and still sounding roughly the same. Other heavier songs that old Disturbed fans may appreciate include "Prayer," "Rise" and "Intoxication." The final track of the disc, "Darkness," is a softer, more melodic piece that many fans may be disappointed with or may love deeply.
Final Word: If you're new to Disturbed, try either The Sickness or Ten Thousand Fists before trying this one to experience the true power of Disturbed's music. That doesn't mean a little melody and deeper, more insightful lyrics don't make a album bad. However, the effect is much more felt on the follow-up album, Ten Thousand Fists, where the melody and lyrics are fused with the raw power of The Sickness. Very good, but Disturbed is capable of much more.

Taking three-years between albums has made Weezer grow slower and more sober. But on its fifth disc the Los Angeles quartet is no more secure about its place in the world than it was a decade ago in longing tunes like "The World Has Turned And Left Me Here." Singer Rivers Cuomo, still struggling with adolescence at 34, is all apologies. "All I have to do is swing and I'm the hero/ But I'm a zero," he sings on "Perfect Situation," and "I am terrified of all things/ Frightened of the dark," on the lighters-aloft power ballad "Hold Me." The band, meanwhile, keeps things from getting too heavy by punctuating the songs with a familiar rush of bouncy new-wave melodies and fizzing power-pop riffs resulting in the hair-flinging metal of the future D.A.R.E. theme song and album high-point, "We Are All On Drugs." --Aidin Vaziri
Customer Reviews:
Blue Album, Green Album, this album.......2007-06-27
There are three Weezer albums that I feel are truly excellent. Nope, Pinkerton is not one of them.
If you like the singles and you're tired of the emo kids telling you to listen to Pinkerton some more, then this is the album for you.
Got old quickly!.......2007-06-04
Beverly Hills sounded really good in the summer of 2005, but for some reason, this CD got old fast! The rest of the album just wasn't me. If it held up well, I'd give it four stars.
Perfect Situation.......2007-05-16
When listening to this CD for the first time i felt like it had been written just for me. Every song sang felt like something i would say. I could look at each song and connect it to an event in my life. I do want to be in Beverly Hills, In the perfect situation i have let love down the drain, i really do just want someone to hold me, i do need to find some peace, we are all on drugs, i do have damage in my heart that i need to let go, i would like to be pardoned, i do love my best friend, i do just look the other way, lots of people do freak me out, and i am going to haunt you everyday. I could listen to this CD for hours and it really helped me through some hard times where i could know that i'm not alone. I would recomend it to anyone, some of it is a little slow and sad, but it has it's upbeat moments too. So don't just turn the other way, buy this CD... lol... and no, i'm not trying to sell this...
Great Album.......2006-11-29
There are a few people bashing this Album. At first, I really didn't get into this cd. After awhile it got hooked on me. I love every song on this album. I'm def. looking forward to future Weezer Albums.
So polished, you can see right through it.......2006-10-25
This album is easily inferior to Weezer's previous classics, the 'Blue' album and "Pinkerton". However, I get the feeling that people pretty much stopped expecting greatness out of Weezer after "Maladroit", anyway...
That being said, this album is nowhere near as good as their earlier output, but in fairness is also much less unlistenable than the 'Green' album. Don't expect any of these songs to grab you, but don't expect to be completely disgusted, either. If you're not too picky when it comes to harmless, bubble-gum power-pop, you're bound to like some aspects of this album. "Perfect Situation" and "The Damage In Your Heart" are both perfectly decent songs. It's just that two of the singles from this album, "Beverly Hills" and "We Are All on Drugs", are hands down the two worst songs that Weezer have ever recorded. The other songs? They didn't seem to leave much of an impression on me one way or another. This album is for die-hard Weezer fans only...or at least the die-hard Weezer fans not already turned off by the steadily decreasing quality of their musical output, anyway.
It's disappointing to see this band lower their standards to this harmless, forgettable batch of songs. We know the greatness that Weezer is capable of, but we've seen only faint glimmers of it since they came back in 2001. It makes one wonder if they should have even come back in the first place. Sure, they've had a run of success to rival their mid 90's hey-day, but nobody is going to remember this album in 10 years. I can gurantee you, however, that people out there are still going to be talking about the Blue album and "Pinkerton" at that point in time. They're found success, but at the expense of their previous musical legacy.
There have been rumors that this is in fact their last album. It's probably for the best.

Customer Reviews:
Aaliyah - Ultimate Aaliyah .......2007-02-03
"Ultimate Aaliyah" (2005) is an impressive two disc release (+ Bonus dvd) consisting of twenty-five tracks from Aaliyah (Aaliyah Dana Haughton, January 16th 1979-August 25th 2001). Aaliyah's death at 22 years old sent shocks through the music world, a real tragedy - may she rest in peace. In her short lifetime Aaliyah was a prolific grammy winning artist, model & actress. This release opens with the exceptional "One In A Million", Aaliyah shines like the sun on this memorable love ballad. Next to this sweet cut, my favourite Aaliyah track is the outstanding slow jam "I Care 4 U", Aaliyah comforts a man who's women left him. I remember when "We Need A Resoultion" was blowing up on the radio, its a commercially friendly track which is relevant to the everyday relationship issue's real life people deal with. Another hit collaboration with Timbaland is "Try Again" made for "Romeo Must Die" a movie starring Jet Li and Aaliyah. "Rock The Boat" & "More Then A Woman" are to more memorable joints from her self-titled album. The "I Miss You" (Remix) is a moving and powerful track, Aaliyah sings soulfully about a lost love - Aaliyah really captured the feeling of a breakup and the longing people have on this premium joint. Disc two features bonus, soundtrack, and guest appearance/collaboration material. Timbaland & Magoo team up with Wyclef and provide a heartfelt tribute to Aaliyah on "Hold On" . "Ultimate Aaliyah" is a release for any R & B collection.

Wonderful, eye-catching packaging and great selections completes this CD set! Features all her best, gems, and a DVD documentary of her life and music! No disappointments here!
A complete timeline of her career! (4.5 stars).......2006-04-14
In a span of only 7 years, Aaliyah Dana Haughton became one of the biggest and brightest stars in R&B. In 2001, she released her self-titled third album to rave reviews and was slated to star in two big-budget films later in the year. However, Aaliyah never lived to reap her newfound success as an ill-fated crash off of the Barbados coast took her life. It's still hard to believe to this day.
Since then, there's been a few compilations to harness Aaliyah's short-lived but successful career. Only one, however, has completely captured her best moments -- "Ultimate Aaliyah". Released in the U.K. in 2005, it's a three-disc set of her greatest hits, grab-bag material, and an hour-long DVD documentary paying tribute to the legacy she departed with. The U.S. saw the release of "I Care 4 U" (which was a decent hits compilation), but this is, by far, the best collection of Aaliyah's career. It includes ALL of her chart entries, (except "Come Over" and "Age Ain't Nuthin But A Number"), NEW unreleased material, and a special documentary of interviews and promo clips from some of the biggest and brightest stars who knew Aaliyah best.
In sum, Aaliyah's entire career is on display with this special collection. You don't have to look elsewhere to find Aaliyah at her best moments (unless you have to have "Age" and/or "Come Over"). As a bonus, you also get a DVD that tells her life through interviews and video clips from some of your favorite stars. This is truly the ultimate collection! Therefore, the only problem I have was its quiet release. An all-encompassing collection of Aaliyah's best moments with a bonus DVD and it gets a quiet U.K. release? Maybe it was contract issues with her label, but this record SHOULD have gotten a U.S. release. If you don't own it, it's a definite must-have, no matter the side of the ocean you're on. Highly recommended for any music fan, especially avid R&B followers.

As they developed and incorporated more of their own social lives into their music, the Mamas and the Papas became the model for other dysfunctionally self-involved groups like Fleetwood Mac. But none of that is evident on their 1966 debut, If You Can Believe Your Eyes and Ears; rather, it's the quartet's dreamy vocal interaction that is the highlight here. "California Dreamin'" is a touching honeymoon of a song; and its follow-up, "Monday Monday," is much the same--though it comes this close to overwhelming sappiness. "Spanish Harlem," "In Crowd," and Mama Cass Elliott's lead on the Beatles' "I Call Your Name" are just as enjoyable. Though the accompanying music on this album was not the focus, it's every bit as strong as the vocal arrangements, with Larry Knetchel, Joe Osborne, and Hal Blaine handling the chores here. --Randy Silver

I'M A BELIEVER !!!.......2006-08-15
To me, great debut albums are few and far between. These days, there's just too much hype made about this group and that group; and, even if they are good, so much media overkill and overplay gets done that you're sick of hearing about someone before they've really had a chance? "IF YOU CAN BELIEVE YOUR EYES AND EARS" is one of those great debut albums--almost a "sleeper," if you will--that can't be beat! From start to finish, you want to hear more; and usually do wind up playing it a second (and maybe even a third) time around before walking away and saying, "Wow," to yourself over and over again. I can only compare that to, say, the first Beatles album (take your pick between the first UK or US release), Boston's debut LP, Skynyrd's "PRONOUNCED," or (another "sleeper") "LISTEN UP... IT'S THE ECHOES"--the latter, in some ways, reminding me of The Mamas & The Papas magic and honesty? This group's definitely earned itself a place in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. I only wish there were more like them!
Metamorpho, Metamorpho...So Good to Me..................2006-01-05
People, people. I remember a long time ago, when I was a Metamorpho in training, trying to angle my radio in just a certain way to pick up a radio station in Boston to hear the latest. Even though I lived in the suburbs of New Jersey - extremely close to N.Y.C. - they really weren't up on it as far as new music was concerned. So.... there I was... trying to get under just the right cloud formation. And then I heard it (Bless Boston, Massachusetts!), California Dreamin'!!!! Then they announced that it was by The Mamas and the Papas. My teenage brain repeated over and over to me.. "MUST GET THIS".
Of course, I had to wait for New York to catch up, and then I had to wait for the album release. It was well worth the wait! At that time (65-66) I remember how unique they were. I mean. who dressed like that? Not even my beloved Beatles took that chance (Sgt. Pepper was years away). As I knew full well upon first hearing, "California Dreamin'" eventually went to Number 1. And not too long after that, they doubled that gift by releasing "Monday, Monday." Accessible pop done expertly.
This first album has many things to reccommend it. The arrangements, the vocal harmonies, the professional session men who provided the backdrop for these voices. The "definitive" Mamas and the Papas, if you ask Metamorpho.
So many good tunes. That great riff on the pop-rock "Straight Shooter", the carnival take on "I Call Your Name", the great tick-tocking of time on "Got a Feelin'". Wonderful, lush, great mid-sixties pop. Memorable and you always felt better after hearing it.
The Mamas and the Papas were different than anything else at the time. Their legacy lives on because there was quality there. Metamorpho is sad because he no longer discovers great music by transistor radio. He is sad because the times have moved from quality to quantity. To quote Metamorpho in one of his more reflective moods, "The discovery of great music is 50% of the joy upon hearing it." I hope my anecdotes and humor help you to the joy of new discoveries! Bye my people.... Metamorpho
Nothing like it before - EVERYTHING like it since.......2004-08-26
In an era where groups were categorized as 'Vocal', 'Motown', 'Folk', 'Girl Group', 'British Invasion', and 'Rock and Roll', along came The Mama's and the Papa's (at the time, resplendent with their apostrophes). What, exactly, do you call them? Part of the magic of the band was that you couldn't label them with anything that existed at the time - they really did carve their own niche... then immortalized it in the 2 years they were together. Their effect was profound, even leading to a 4/4 time drum beat that's colloquially referred to as 'Mamas and Papas'. The Classics IV would name a song after them; Peter, Paul and Mary would dedicate an entire verse to them in their hit "I Dig Rock and Roll Music"; Donovan would write a song for Cass. The group was as adept at others' material (a full HALF of this album is comprised of tunes by other artists), as they were at their own.
California Dreamin' - an ageless classic which made Rolling Stone's top 100 of the best songs ever recorded, and with good reason. A haunting, minor-chord revelation, the song takes the beachy California confections of the early 1960's and gives them folk's depth and mood. And, by the way, the second verse ends with "you know the preacher LIGHTS the COALS, he knows I'm gonna stay (get it, it's cold outside, the preacher lights a fire for the wandering troubadour who's dreamin' of California - the Beach Boys cover of this song sported a video that illustrates this point with some clarity).
Straight Shooter - Rock and Roll, pure and simple. Driving, groovy, and downright sexy towards the end (listen carefully for Cass's grinding 'half of that belongs to me' at the end of the song).
Got a Feelin' - One of the first four songs the group ever composed, the liner notes of the album refer to the song as 'feathery'. I really can't improve on that.
I Call Your Name - Cass' first showcase on the album, it defines the Mama's and Papa's brilliance (for the most part) at recording other's tunes, and Papa John's ability to rearrange a song and make it completely different. The Beatles' rock and roll standard becomes an almost ragtime love song, if you can believe your ears...
Do You Wanna Dance - another cover tune, late of Bobby Freeman AND the Beach Boys, it is arguably the group's best version of someone else's song - so good, in fact, that Dunhill - the group's record label - would mine it for a single TWO YEARS AFTER THE FACT. The beauty and sincerity of this song is BEGGING to appear on a soundtrack of a romantic comedy. Brilliant beyond words.
Go Where You Wanna Go - simple, cool, four-part-harmony fun. The first single - though preemptively - released from the album, it was quickly pulled in favor of California Dreamin'. The 5th Dimension would later cover the song and send it into the American Top 20, thus launching THEIR career.
Monday, Monday - won the group the Grammy in 1966, and with good reason. It's a symphony. In stereo, the one speaker will produce Cass, John, Michelle, and the strings, while the other will feature Denny's lead, the harpsichord (!) and percussion. It is technically awe-inspiring, simple and complex at the same time. Michelle thought it was pretentious at the time, and potentially career-limiting. Never has an artist been so happy to be so wrong. I can hear this song 1,000 times - and have - and can still find something new to love about it.
Spanish Harlem - on par with Do You Wanna Dance, Denny's vocals are pristine and plaintive, with the girls' harmonies behind him evoking the balcony to which he's singing. A love song lovers' love song.
Somebody Groovy - another of their first four tunes, it - along with the rest of the album - demonstrates the group's ability to be good time rock n' rollers. It's got a great beat, and you can... well, you know.
You, Baby - The Turtles are targeted in this cover, and I'm hard-pressed to decide who's won. The boys do it a little faster; the Mama's and the Papa's do it a little more rock-er. One of the few times the group would take on another artist's tune and match it closely, rather than re-invent it entirely.
Hey Girl - A great answer-back pop tune that should've appeared on more of the millions of compilations than it has. An early showcase for the girls' voices.
The In-Crowd - Watch Cass take a soul tune and make it her own. The other side of the coin from I Call Your Name, here Cass is finally unleashed on a song, her barreling contralto owning every note.
I still cannot imagine, after all the greatest hits re-do's, that California Dreamin' and Monday, Monday actually appeared on the same album together ORIGINALLY. Universal in its acceptance, If You Can Believe is to the Mama's and the Papa's what Pet Sounds is to the Beach Boys, and Sgt. Peppers is to the Beatles.
Yes, there was Abba, the Carpenters, the Sunshine Company... but FIRST, there was The Mama's and the Papa's.
Buy this album. Right now.
5 Stars Plus!!!.......2002-10-09
This is great makeout music! On Do You Wanna Dance, Monday, Monday and Spanish Harlem, Denny Doherty is a singer par excellence!!! Cass is super on Somebody Groovy and In Crowd!!!
Come back John and write some more songs! You left us too soon!
Their Fabulous Classic First Folk-Rock Album!.......2002-05-15
No single group flashed faster to the top nor created more hype than the fabled the Mamas and the Papas. From their initial burst onto the scene with "California Dreaming" to their final efforts with "For The Love Of Ivy", they created a new, exciting, and melodramatic form of vocal harmonies into the folk-rock mainstream. The album featured here was their freshman effort, and it is indeed a classic, containing wall to wall hits with "Monday Monday", "I Call Your Name", "Go Where You Wanna Go", and of course, "California Dreaming".
The cover shot of the four of them gathered fully clothed in an empty bathtub was typical of their earthy presence and flair the unconventional. Within a couple of years they had conquered the pop heavens, had an incredible string on non-stop hits, and promptly dissolved among the internal frictions so common to mid-sixties super-groups like the Byrds, Buffalo Springfield, and a number of others. Yet the incredible sound they created remains, and I defy anyone to listen to this album without snapping a finger or tapping a foot in time with incredible sounds emanating from the stereo. This album is a must-have for collectors of sixties folk-rock music. Enjoy!

Follow up record.......2007-06-01
Not to say this guy isn't good, he is and very smooth too. If you have "People Gonna Talk" though, this new offering is like the cuts that missed the first recording.
Believe What I Say.......2007-04-11
I had never seen James Hunter until I saw him on Leno. I kept hearing a soul thread floating through this song. At times I thought I could hear a mild James Brown influence. (J.B. Fan)
I don't usually hear one song and go to Amazon to buy, but I did and was very satisfied. I bought 2 CD's. Quite pleased on both, Believe What I Say & People Gonna Talk.

A Tremendous Find.......2007-01-14
I was turned on to James Hunter by a friend. What a great find he turned out to be for me. Having started my true music appreciation with the motown sound and soul music of the '60's and '70's, James is a great modern day find. The sax in his music is quite appealing. I highly recommend anyone curious about James's music go to his web site and sample his sound. Gauranteed to please.

World's best trumpet player.......2007-05-12
The incredible Wynton Marsalis plays the classics of the brass solo genre.
If you want to hear some very delightful music played by a most impressive instrumentalist, get this album.
Listening to this will make you realize the mediocrity of most of today's popular music. They don't grow people like Jean-Baptiste Arban any more.
Credit Wynton Marsalis.......2007-01-25
This outstanding collection of turn-of-the-last-century cornet solos is a collector's item. Mr. Marsalis (and the ensemble) makes it all sound so easy and enjoyable. As an instrumental music teacher I find hearing these inspires many of my high school high brass players to work on them.
stylistically wrong.......2005-05-29
Having studied with an international authority on cornet playing I can con fidently say that Wynton's cornet playing is ok at best. More than anything hes tryying to sell CDs rather than capture the essence of Cornet playing, like most of wyntons playing its alot of flash but no substance. Great if your a trumpet head and you get off on empty virtuostic fluff.
Wynton, Wynton, Wynton........2005-01-01
There are times, when I'm listeing to Wynton, I get depressed like the flash of a 64th note played. His sounds is so pure and wonderful. He rocks. I don't mind realizing that there aren't many other trumpeteers out there like him.
I met him once actually. In Alice Tully Hall, after a holiday concert. He stood on the stage towering over my dad, brother and I. He called us "the frontline", after my dad telling him we play the trumpet, trombone, and clarinet. What a cool guy.
Good, but not the best.......2004-11-28
Marsalis is an excellent trumpet player, there is no question as to that. He is certainly not the best in the world, however. I prefer a better recording of Carnival of Venice and many other cornet solos by Gerard Schwarz. The spirit of such solos is lost when they are put to ensemble accompaniment, Schwarz interprets them far better in my opinion. Also, his technical mastery is at least equal to that of Wynton's, or was when he made the album. His sound is sweeter and more perfect to my ear. And this is not the only album in which you can hear dazzling technical pieces, either. Sergei Nakariakov, Rafael Mendez, and Allen Vizzutti are the most proficient players with recordings out there. Nakariakov and Mendez both do better readings of the Paganini, playing the entire song double-tonguing and circular breathing. The Mendez Flight of the Bumblebee has a much better sound and fits the piece more, too. The most amazing song I have ever heard is the Carnival of Venus, by Vizzutti. Listen to anything by Wynton and then this song, you will be absolutely amazed. The last variation of the Marsalis is Vizzutti's first, and they get harder from there. Simply put, this is a good recording and the most accessible, but there are better ones out there. I wouldn't buy this to hear cornet solos or amazing technical pieces, but for hearing other interpretations. I prefer Schwarz, Mendez, Vizzutti, and Nakariakov.

A member of the band Heatmiser, Elliot Smith recorded home demos on any equipment he could get his hands on. His first "solo" album is a cheap four-track home recording that hints at the melodic possibilities Smith would explore in greater detail on subsequent releases. The title track is remarkable but with four songs referred to in sequential order as "No Name #1," "No Name #2," etc. ... the inspiration isn't always fully firing. Blessed with a quiet angelic voice and a lyrical mind that easily transforms the squalid details of everyday life into something worth hearing about twice, Smith stood on the verge of getting it on. With his next, self-titled release, he did.--Rob O'Connor
Customer Reviews:
Great Album.......2007-04-17
This maybe my favorite Elliott Smith album next to Either/Or. I would purchase this album with Either/Or if I were just getting into Elliott Smith. It is a very chill album to listen to while driving at night, doing homework, or going to sleep. Elliott's acoustic guitar playing and lyrics are very well arranged. Give it a glance.
beautiful.......2007-03-13
i bought this cd completely on a whim at a local cd store. it took a few listens for certain songs to really sink in, but now i absolutely love it. No Name #3 and Condor Avenue are worth the price tag alone
A glimpse inside the audio diary of Elliot Smith.......2007-03-05
This unpretentious cd is sparse and mysterious as was the late recording artist himself, who died under mysterious circumstances shortly after receiving critical acclaim. I think it is the best representation of Smith, who has other more polished cd's that seem to have somehow missed his essence. This one seems to have been recorded early on, low-fi in a basement or bedroom, and lets you get up close to him without studio intervention. There are many tracks that don't even have bass or drums, just guitars and voice. The tunes are haunting and insecure, but will soon get right under your skin. This is no high-gloss commercial venture, but more like a glimpse inside somebody's audio diary.
Three Cheers.......2006-07-16
Roman Candle has a very endearing adolescence to it much softer than Elliott's later work. An innocent recording of someone's youth.
Smith's Genius.......2006-07-09
Elliot Smith has never written anything but beautiful, listenable music and this first release is no exception. His fan base should only grow. He was a genius.
