5 out of 5 stars Solid buy for fans and newcomers alike.......2007-07-15

This 2cd collection has a mix of must have songs, solid songs, and filler.
What I'm enjoying the most out of it is that every listener has favorites that other listeners completely disagree with, yet they all seem to love the release so far.
There's such a wide variety here that anyone who remotely likes danzig from any point in his career, will find at least half a dozen tracks here that they will enjoy, and others that won't make their favorite list but they will still enjoy. People who dropped Danzig after Danzig 4 will be happy to know that there are songs on here from danzig 5 & later that are far BETTER than anything released on the albums they were cut from, and songs not included on albums 1 - 4 that are just as good as anything that made it onto those albums.

I'm a fan, but I'm not pointlessly loyal or biased. There are songs I dislike on every album including the lost tracks, yet I still gave this five stars and I think it just might be the only release he's made that'll get above 4 from me to date.

Here's my personal favorite list, and again, everyone's favorite list will be different, which is a real shinning point for this album:

Right now, in order of track listing:
when death had no name
both versions are good because the first has this metallic vocal quality that reminds me of some misfits recordings that are eluding my memory at the moment; the second is good because the whole thing cleaned up so well. I've had this on yellow vinyl in storage for years now and from the first time I ever heard it, it's sort of haunted the back of my mind ever since, and I'm glad to finally have it sort of finalized; and in a medium I can just play the hell out of it without worrying because it's not antiquated and rare.

Angels of the seventh dawn
This is one of those tracks where the whole thing is fun to listen to and frustrating at the same time, because you want to sing along, but the strength and passion in the song that makes it good are probably the same forces contributing to hard to distinguish vocals. One thing being a misfits fan has taught me is to never really trust 3rd party lyric sheets.

Satan's Crucifiction
I don't care if this was written as a joke, it's good. The guitar is smoky, brooding, in a way I love, the same reason I like 'Pain in the world' so much. Also, his vocals carry that certain 'grim herald' power to them that they have from time. To elaborate, in the beginning verse, the way he booms out 'all you...' etc, makes me imagine him as he was during the thrall/deamonsweatlive photos, at the peak of his physical shape, foot propped up atop a speaker cabinet, pointing out to the horde that came to hear him...

Bound by Blood
It's a good song all around. One of the reasons it makes my favorites list is because it displays a very deep personal bond between the writer and whoever he presumably wrote it for. I really appreciate this song because he usually keeps his family and love life very private, and as a big fan you wish you could know him more personally. So to have him share it with his fans, I took it as a kind gesture. If I ever had a child I imagine I would be able to sum up my feelings about them with this song pretty nicely.

Dying Seraph
Not a whole lot to be said from me aside from it's the melancholy atmosphere he built in this one that's just great, I eat songs like that right up it seems. It reminds me of ashes, let it be captured, pain in the world, etc.

There are other songs that are good, and a few I don't like. But I can't write very well about things I don't love or hate with a passion.

5 out of 5 stars Great Stuff.......2007-07-15

Im not one to sit down and write reviews to often, but with Danzig I figured Id make an exception.Unlike most Danzig fans I didnt start out hearing Danzig 1 or 2 first.Instead my first Danzig record was 6:66 and that was the first Id heard of him.I shortly after bought "Danzig 2" and like the rest of you I did notice a big differance in the music/singing/song writing style. However I disagree with anyone who says Danzig lost his voice or his best work was 1-4,etc,etc....His voice did have a differant tone after # 4 no doubt, but all one has to do is listen to this "Lost Tracks" and its evident by songs like "Crawl across your killing floor","bound by blood" etc..he could still sing exactly as he did on 1-4 and I suppose thats why he chose to leave those tracks off the records,as they sounded more like his 1-4 style as apose to the newer stuff. I cant imagine anyone who is actually a fan of Danzig not loving this new record.I think some of the harsher reviews may be from people who aint really into Danzig or maybe have just grown tired of him throughout the years.Upon listening to this record from start to finish several times Im convinced that if you are a Danzig fan youll love this record.

4 out of 5 stars First disc worth the fuss. .......2007-07-15

I haven't really listened to the second disc yet, but I mainly reviewing it for the first disc alone. This is almost like a continuation of Danzig Mark I lineup, and where they could've gone after 4p, if Glenn hadn't pulled the rug from under everyone. Even Glenn's (possibly rerecorded at times) vocals sound better than anything since 4, and the songs give a glimpse into the past when all was great. Cold, Cold Rain is the logical cousin to a song like Sistinas, and most of the songs on disc 1 are worth the trouble. We get to hear John Christ's (where are you dude?) great guitar work, (possibly) Eerie Von (read recent interviews with Glenn, it may be John or Glenn playing some of the bass), and the great (now retired from music) Chuck Bisquits.

This is a glimpse into a past of great music, killer songwriting, and excellent vocals. Glenn lost the plot along the way, and I think this is a sample of what we have missed since the original band broke up.

5 out of 5 stars Incredible!.......2007-07-15

This is a treasure for true Danzig fans. It's all been noted, but the superb packaging, amazing songwriting and personal insights about every song make this the best album to go out with if it is indeed his last major release. I really never thought I'd see the day where I could buy the new Danzig album, put it in the cd player and feel the same way I did when I first bought Danzig 2 or 3 back in high school. These songs and photos put perfect closure to my Danzig collection.

1 out of 5 stars You simply can't polish a turd.......2007-07-13

These tracks should have remained "Lost". They were left off the album releases for good reason. The real problem here is Glenn Danzig trying to cash in on a 2 CD set of leftover scraps than actually produce something worthwhile. All the overdubs and remastering in the world could not have saved this debacle. The only true merit gained in releasing this steaming pile of fecal debris is to make you appreciate his official albums even more. Completely overpriced for a collection of table scraps that I wouldn't even offer to a stray mutt.

5 out of 5 stars the best.......2007-06-18

THIS IS ONE OF DIRTIEST MOST EVIL ROCK ALBUM OF ALL TIME !!! EVERY THING IS PERFECT - FROM THE ALBUM SLEEVE TO THE RICK RUBIN PRODUCTION TO THE RIFFS & LYRICS AND DRUMS. ITS A MIXT OF OLD ACDC - WITH EVIL ELVIS ON VOCAL !! I SAW THEM IN 92, THEY HAD THE BEST DRUMMER EVER MR CHUCK BISCUIT.I WOULD SUGGEST BUYING DANZIG 2 AND DANZIG 3, ALL 3 ALBUMS ARE GOOD FROM THE 1ST TO THE LAST SONG (+ ITS ALL THE ORIGINAL MEMBERS) AFTER
THAT, DANZIG WENT ALL TECHNO AND I LOST INTEREST. I NEVER LEAVE HOME WITHOUT DANZIG

5 out of 5 stars Danzig rules! 5/5 stars.......2007-04-29

I bought my copy at circuit city I thought the lyrics were obscene considering for some reason they have a parental advisory logo displayed in front of the album cover but the lyrics were perfectly clean. My most favorite songs MOTHER ive heard that song years ago and it was awesome and TWISTED CAINER the guitars in this song sound bad a**.

4 out of 5 stars Uttuerly Chessey.......2007-03-30

Glenn Danzig is an old man with no sense of humor. The music was fine, too bad he's an old man with no sense of humor. Apparently Danzig's fans have never heard of something called a date, which would explain the apparent homosexuality rampant in the metal scene a la Rob Halford. And it's out of print, too; gee, I wonder, you think this is still the 50s?

5 out of 5 stars dark and awesome.......2007-02-18

This is the first CD I ever bought from Danzig. I had heard the Misfits before and knew only vaguely of Samhain. This was in 1992. I found this at a used place for 5 bucks, gave it a listen and loved it from the first chords of Twist of Cain. This album is filled with power chords, pounding drums and some nice bass work. The vocals and howls on this album might have been recorded in the woods on some moonlit night.

These are 10 great songs, sequenced perfectly. I can't imagine these songs in any other order. This is high quality metal that was somehow passed over by the mainstream. This album was a million times better than any 80's hair band who dominated the charts at this time (1988). However, the bad thing is that the chosen single, Mother, used to be a good song. I loved it until MTV played the death out of it in 1994. This is the only song by Danzig that many radio stations even play. GRRRR>

The music on this album is played with all the power and intent relevant in the lyrics. The ending part of 'Twist Of Cain' is the best, plodding by slowly. The ending part of 'Not Of This world', which builds up to a nice huge ending which immediately merges into a two cymbal crash that begins the nice bluesy beat that begins 'She Rides'. Soul On Fire (along with End Of Time) are great songs that start quiet and become nice and loud and aggressive. Am I Demon is the best track here and all the more powerful when done live. Possession starts with a howl of desperation that would make your skin crawl. The album ends with The Hunter, a nice song about a stalker (haha) and a great little song called Evil Thing.

All in all, there is not a bad song here. Everything about this album screams 'instant classic.' So if you're into any kind of metal or gothic rock this should be in your collection. If it's not, I would think you'd been living under a rock. Add this to your collection this minute. This is a five star album, without doubt!

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful showcase for Glenn Danzig's incredible voice.......2007-04-03

This CD has been one of my favorites for 17 years, ever since it came out. It was my first exposure to Danzig... despite being a fan of the Misfits before finding this disc, I somehow missed the first Danzig disc. The sound of Danzig the band and of Glenn Danzig's haunting, gorgeous voice are at their best on this CD. I think this is the absolute best Danzig album, with their first release as a close second.

5 out of 5 stars great second album.......2007-02-18

This album was released in 1990. This was before anyone on MTV even knew who Danzig was. It's a real shame because this album was as good, if not better than anything that were playing at that time.

These songs are a bit different than the first self titled album, but are still filled with darkness and shadows. Again, these are 11 great songs in perfect sequence. The first three songs on this album are all merged together which makes it even better to listen to. It's too bad the entire album was not presented this way. The songs here are performed a bit different, adding alot of acoustic blues (I'm The One is the best example) 777 is also a great song that moves back and forth between acoustic chords and heavy guitar. Blood And Tears is a nice ballad that is further explored on later albums with songs like 'Sistanas', 'Dominion' and 'Ashes'

Her Black Wings further explores the female goth angel that started with She Rides and appeared in many later songs. Girl is a great heavy song that starts with some nice deep power chords. Pain In The World is a great closer for this album that mixes all the best elements of light and heavy.

The video for this album, which has yet to see DVD release is also worth checking out. It's a great accompaniment to this CD and filled with dark yet compelling images. So check out this CD and the video if you can find it. This is yet another 5 star album.

5 out of 5 stars you know what..........2007-01-29

I think this is some excellent stuff here. I completely agree with the reviewer that said if Jim Morrison and the devil collaborated this is what it would be, because this is exactly what it sounds like. Dark, poetic lyrics with a morrison-esque voice.

I was interested in Danzig because I remember Lacuna Coil saying they were going on tour with him and they called him a metal legend, etc. and I had never heard of them. Tried seeing if he had a myspace but he didn't so I could take a listen, then yesterday I was in a disc replay store and spotted this cd for 4 bucks and I was like, "what the hell? Why not?" and then popped it in and loved it. This is just good quality music that is trapped somewhere between rock and metal. MUST BUY!!!!

5 out of 5 stars better than danzig 1.......2006-12-01

this is a great listen and better than danzig's debut release in my opinion. of course i like everthing glenn danzig has released from the misfits to samhain to danzig...the man is a musical mastermind. anyways...my fav track on here is blood and tears because its alot slower than his usual stuff but still somehow pulls you in. all of the tracks have something to offer though.

4 out of 5 stars Great CD.......2006-03-14

This is the first Danzig alblum I have ever purchased and I think it is outstanding!! I would recomend this to any rock and roll fan anywhere.

1 out of 5 stars What the???!!!!!.......2007-04-27

I am so upset. Black Aria was cool, so I thought this would be a good follow up, but was I wrong! Basically anyone could have made this crap. Totally uninspired and boring. Repetitive melodies that a 9 year old can hum. I cant believe he is charging full price for this! Dont waste your money, stick with the first one.

3 out of 5 stars good but repetitive.......2007-02-24

I probably shouldn't be writing an in depth review here. I have only listened to this CD four times since I bought it and that was back in October. But here goes.

This is a good CD, but can be a bit boring. The opening track is good for about 40 seconds, but then repeats itself. There are absolutely no melodies or harmonies here at all. Many of the songs start strong and atmospheric but really have no where left to go, and can only be repeated.

There are some nice drums in a few of the songs, but I wish they were a bit more powerful and strong. They seemed very subdued to me. There are even some vocal effects on this album that, while interesting and different, are just repeated almost endlessly. Do I need four minutes of Danzig quietly vocalizing a sound like a cow that wants to just be put out if its misery?? ...woooo....ahhhhh?? Hell no.

Don't get me wrong, this is great and interesting stuff, but there's just too much repetitiveness here. If he had taken to time to write an actual melody or edit these songs down this would have been a million times better.

But I still can enjoy this for what it is. This music tells a good story, just not very well and not with anything hummable or easy to remember. I can't even remember the way the music goes.

So while this is good, there are a million other Aria's out there that are much better. I still give this 3 stars because its good backround music. Maybe someday I'll edit this thing down to about 20 minutes and make it more listenable. Barely.

5 out of 5 stars True music of your inner demon!.......2007-02-08

This is great atmospheric music for an erie wedding cerimony, or for performing sacrificial rituals for "The Great Old Ones." The voices on this Cd remind me of imprisoned souls who cry out in anguish and pain as they beg to be released, and yet they go unheard, and I feed on their pain, and I feed well. I butter my bread with delicious pain, and this Cd is the perfect example. If you're composing a dark Opera, and want something to help you on your composition, then this Cd is for you. Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Entrancing..........2006-12-17

This is precisely atmospheric music for an eerie embience. Haunting instrumentations go floating into the atmosphere with an etheric grace, manifesting the phantasmagoric muse from antiquity's thrall. A memorable melody underlies the opus throughout, beginning with 'Overture: Winged Night Demon'.

Black Aria II has a very Egyptian/Middle-eastern feel to it, almost 'Necronomicon'-like, wherein one can picture spiraling pillars in some temple of flesh, flickering torch-light upon sinfully hypnotizing contortions, hidden away in ancient wind-blown dunes, where unspeakable horrors emerge from abyssal archways to embrace and consume.

'Unclean Sephira' features a very Diamanda Galas-like voice beckoning the listener to invigorating terrors; 'Bridal Ceremony of The Lilitu' is definitely the gem of the opus, where the strains of the organ blast forth only to give way to a regally demonic procession in all of its unholy splendor. Immediately blending into a spectral dance, both compelling and repulsive; 'Shiddin' unleashes the beast across the sands of time, where shadowy warriors take upon black stallions with sabres, and strange creatures rise from spilled blood from crevasses to devour mortality. 'Zemaragad' employs the theremin to create that quintessential spooky sound for delightful chills and evocative thrills.'Abandonment/Recreation' lends an impression of generating dark forces by chanting echoes from a fathomless pit; Beware the 'Lamia' who will draw your life with a kiss - the music presents a conjuration nicely.

Black Aria II definitely delivers that enthralling darkness we find so pleasant, where visions are projected from deep within the subconscious painting the black canvas with wickedly captivating forms of wonderfully ghoulish fear and lust.

According to mindset, this opus is quite different from the first, which musically illustrated Milton's epic Paradise Lost. Black Aria II definitely accomplishes its particular theme thuroughly.

4 out of 5 stars Accessible it isn't...........2006-11-24

Glenn Danzig returns with another foray out of the realm of metal and into that of atmospheric music.

Black Aria II eschews the more traditional orchestral stylings of the original Black Aria and replaces them with a thicker, Middle Eastern sound. Like the original Black Aria (and even moreso on BAII), Glenn's compositions are at times shallow and lacking in dynamic progression. Judged purely on a track by track basis, Black Aria II is a lackluster album. Few of the songs stand out as anything more than background music, and the CD on the whole is very reminiscent of a movie score.

The saving grace of (or best excuse for) Black Aria II is the fact that this is clearly a concept album. Glenn Danzig has a story in his head, and has chosen to express it through an instrumental CD. The song titles themselves offer the only clues as to the content of this story, and the listener's willingness to interpret them will go a long way in determining how much enjoyment that they can get out of this album. Personally, the only song that really grabbed my attention after my first play-through was "Shiddin" (Track 10 on the CD, and still my personal favorite). I was ready to pull it out of my stereo and move on, but I usually spin every new CD two times. At some point during my second listening I got *it,* and the CD didn't end up leaving my stereo for three days.

This is definitely not a CD for everyone (especially fans that are still stuck on Danzig 4). However, for those that are willing to show it a little patience and imagination, BAII offers a dark, compelling journey. (3.5 Stars, rounded up to 4).

5 out of 5 stars old.......2007-05-25

This album is so frickin old, kiss your career goodbye in the next 3 definately 4 years.

5 out of 5 stars another classic .......2007-02-18

This album is one of his best. I reviewed this once before, but it never showed up here. So here I go again.

First off, this was released back in 1992. I don't remember alot of the music from the time being particularly memorable. Some of it was. This was when grunge started to become all the rage and I would have sold my arm to hear something else, anything else.

This album, though not a million seller, was virtually ignored. This really deserved a wider audience.

Anyway, to the songs. Godless is one of those dark songs that caught me instantly. The opening drums and the guitar riff are just amazing. The song then slows down a bit being punctuated with great chords and little drum fills. The lyrics to this are not as sacrilegious as the title suggests. The spoken words at the end of the tracks are more like poetry and a bit spooky.

Anything is a great mix of light and heavy and remains one of my favorite tracks. It's written and sung very well. Bodies is a bit annoying for me. It is a great song and the lyrics are very dark, but something about it doesn't feel right to me. Maybe its the production. I don't know

How The Gods Kill starts out very quiet and once again the dark lyrics bring many images to mind. This gets nice and heavy in the middle and ends as quietly as it started. Dirty Black Summer is one of the best songs here. I love the spooky, windy type sound that starts this track.

Left Hand Black is lyrically one of the best. I wish the music were a bit different though. It sounds to me like it could have used a little quiet part in the middle, but instead it just has a little section of bass and drums playing instead. Heart of the Devil starts with just Danzig's voice before the music kicks in. This has a good vibe to it and his voice is in fine shape here.

Sistinas is a nice slow song that never really gets heavy. Almost any heavy band out there can produce a song like this. This almost sounds like a love song, but careful examination of the lyrics reveal it as something much darker. I'll leave it to you to figure out. Do You Wear the Mark is another of my favorite tracks, the lyrics and music working very well together.

When the Dying Calls is the ending track here. I don't like this as much, but it's still a decent song. The lyrics are well written, but compared to the closer on the previous albums still one falls a bit short.

One more note on the cover art. I am a huge fan of HR Giger and this painting for the cover was a very good idea. Alot of his work is like this so if you're interested at all just Google his name and look up some images.

This is five stars. There are a few weaker songs here, but no bad songs. If you're into Gothic type rock you should already have this. If you're interested in goth rock and want to know a bit about it, this is a great place to start.

3 out of 5 stars Dont read reviews by Justin Paxton.......2006-11-29

I couldnt hold my tongue any longer...any reviewer who thinks Metallicas Master of Puppets sucks and gives The Geto Boys a rave review has no frigging business anywhere near metal. This bonehead hates Bob Dylan, I guess he never took the time to read any of the lyrics to some of the old gems. Im sorry but dude just stick to reviewing rap albums and save us the negative bull****!

5 out of 5 stars One of my alltime favorite albums.......2006-08-23

Basically this is one of those albums that even though is different from the traditional metal and punk style it still come out great. This album is basically a throwback, to the beginning stages of metal in the 70's, and some thrash elements from the 80's, along with some blues and some some satanic songs and you got top notch album. Glenn Danzig has a crooners voice which sounds melodic but the raspiness of his voice gives a scarier edge at times that could give a haunting voice at times.John Christ's guitarring is great from crushing, melodic riffs and great solos, almost Iommi-esque style. Chuck Biscuits drumming actually has grown on me, here he nessesarily overuses the double bass drum but he still came up with great drumming patterns. EErie Hun, bass is audible, and sometimes adds jazzy style bass licks at times.

Many songs here are dark, gothic like and satanic at points, the slow tempo of some songs are haunting and then kick up steam. Some almost feel like a thrash assault. Basically this album is hard to find one bad song, because I enjoyed the whole album, but my picks on Danzig 3 are Left Hand Black(fav track) Dirty Black Summer, Anything, Bodies, How the Gods Kill, Do you wear the Mark, Godless and Heart of the Devil. Pick this album up, ypu wont be dissapointed.

5 out of 5 stars the best danzig album.......2006-06-02

when it comes to glenn danzig, i prefer samhain the most, but this album really pulls the whole "danzig" band further along in my opinion. for danzig newcomers i would recommend this one either first or second. (lucifuge is more of a rocker album) i would say that early danzig(the only good in my opinion) is like the doors, mixed with the early 90's suicidal tendencies, and slowed down to a ultra gothic pace.

still, newcomers to danzig are usually misfits fans, so i would recommend samhain first and danzig last only because you can see his prgression. i say this though. stay away from danzig 5-7......they are almost rob zombie-ish! luckily we have circle of snakes and glenn's reunion with doyle to redeem those stinkers.

by the way, to the reviewer below me. copy and paste a punch in the schnoz!...errm..sorry mr. danzig!..the misfits are a dinosaur band now and who really would want the past repeated?
anyways, get this cd if you are into anything from old punk rock to even johnny cash! yes, danzig is that diverse..well early danzig at least.

    4 out of 5 stars Post-Misfits dark metal.......2005-11-08

Glenn Danzig gained notoriety as the singer for the Misfits and continued his goth metal "I'm a really evil guy" routine with Danzig. This is a raw, but rocking metal CD. The guitar sound is unrefined but works with the songs and their dark tone as does Danzig's measured yowl, and they have just enough melody that you can sing along. Danzig is an evil person and he tells you that on every song. I like the songs but they could use some theme variations. Most people probably know "Mother" by now but "Twist of Cain", "Am I Demon" and "The Hunter" are strong songs as well.

5 out of 5 stars The debut to make the debuts of other bands suck!.......2005-10-07

Danzig's self-titled debut album is my favorite album from Danzig. Every song is its own masterpiece! My favorite track on this very wonderful album was "Posession". I recommend this album for any metalhead, blues lover, or classic rock 'n roller! Whatever someone may price this CD, it is worth it most DEFINITELY!

2 out of 5 stars Uh huh huh - he's all shook up........2005-09-14

Twist of Cain is fine, some of this is beyond parody. Neat album cover though - don't get stuff like that with MP3 eh? Overall, don't waste your money - form your own band.

5 out of 5 stars CANNOT NOT GO WRONG W/ DANZIG.......2005-06-23

I have been a danzig fan for years, every band he has been in has been great from Misfits, Samhain to Danzig, I own every danzig album, I have not been disappointed with any of them. The best Danzig albums are Danzig II: Lucifuge, Danzig IV. This album is very good it has one of my favorite songs, Twist of Cain, I enjoy at least 90% of this album, it is a very strong album. Danzig has a great voice and awesome lyrics..Enjoy

5 out of 5 stars Why the explicit content label???.......2005-06-18

I'm just going to get this out of the way because it really frustrates me when they do this. I understand that Danzig's dark and evil music has never gone too well with concerned and controlling parents, but there are absolutely NO swear words to be found on this album - none at all. The reason this bugs me is that I have heard so many records in which cuss words dominate the bulk of the lyrics (i.e. Sepultura's Roots) and yet no Parental Advisory sticker is to be found on the inlay booklet. This tells me that the music advisory board is not doing a very good job of determining what is and what isn't appropriate for certain age levels. On another topic, I love this album.

Danzig (former member of the Misfits and Samhain) premiered in 1988 with this excellent masterpiece, the self-titled debut. Spawning the hit single "Mother", the album went to sell millions of copies worldwide (particularly after the live single of "Mother" was released in 1993). Offering a hard Sabbath-esque metal sound, with the sludgy, gritty pre-Nirvana stoner rock of the time, Danzig would go on to become quite a legend in the world of metal (being one of the headliners of the very first Ozzfest), and gained a large cult following with this release alone. Songs like "Twist of Cain" and personal favorite "Soul on Fire" display brooding lyrics and questionable imagery. Glenn Danzig's vocals, resembling a "metallized" Elvis Presley, are very catchy - probably the best vocals of this sub-genre next to the Ozzman himself. Pounding drums, sludgy riffs and groovy bass all come in to complement - but Danzig's soloing is where the music truly shines.

Following the Cure and the Sisters of Mercy, Danzig truly revolutionized the gothic music scene. If you want to hear the archetype that would determine the sound of bands like Type O Negative and Love Like Blood, look no further.

Glenn Danzig has long treaded on the darker, heavier side of rock. From the late 1970s hardcore Misfits to the early '80s' Samhain to his '90s incarnation, Danzig, he's released a plethora of albums that, despite varying degrees of success, have always been distinguished by his compelling, distinctive, ominous voice. Much like the more successful White Zombie, Danzig's lyrics are often meant to be delivered and heard with a shared wink. And beneath the homages to horror films and underground comics, Danzig maintains a genuinely strong undercurrent of original creepiness. This outing, tinted with touches of techno/industrial, is generally strong. Though less bombastic and more mysterious than earlier efforts, Satan's Child boasts tried-and-true bottom-heavy riffing and searing guitars mixed in with mysterious, quieter interludes, making it a suitable selection for musical madness on Halloween, and beyond. --Katherine Turman

    5 out of 5 stars OH MAN!!.......2007-06-04

alright i own EVERY danzig era misfits release, every samhain release and danzig 1-4, 6,7, circle of snakes, black aria 1 and 2 and also thrall demonsweat live. my latest purchase, danzig 6 blew me away. i read reviews from everybody on here and most people were running down this album along with danzig 5 black acid. well this album hits hard and is a must for die hard fans like myself. only problem with this is glenn's vocals are dubbed over and most of the songs dont even sound like him but the beats are great. he should have stayed with american recordings as his sound was the best (as heard on danzig 1-4). this isnt his best work, but a very solid work to say the least.

    4 out of 5 stars another classic.......2007-02-24

This CD is incredible. I waited a long time for this album and I didn't really know what to expect. The last album was a bit too industrial and techno for me, but i still enjoyed it for what it was.

This one is about as heavy as he's ever gotten. The first chords of 'Five Finger Crawl' will shake the walls. 'Belly Of The Beast' is a heavy song with some great dark lyrics. 'Lilin' is another song about the goth angel written of in previous songs like 'She Rides', 'Her Black Wings' and 'Serpentia'. 'Cult Without A Name' uses a little bit of electronics to great effect. 'East Indian Devil' starts with a great female voice that was a bit of a shock when I first heard this. But it works. 'Firemass' has a nice flowing guitar line almost reminicent of 'How The Gods Kill'.

All the songs here are good. The exceptions are 'Into The Mouth Of Abandonement' and 'Apokalips'. They are still good songs, but not great. And in a great bit of sequencing these two songs are together with great songs before and after. 'Thirteen' is one of the best songs, written for Johnny Cash. This is one of the rare songs that actually has a vocal melody in it.

So this is great stuff. Not quite as good as earlier material but still up to the standards he's set before. 4 stars, only because his voice is showing signs of age. Buy this album.

5 out of 5 stars One of the consummate achievements in Heavy Metal History.......2007-02-21

I just bought an iPod recently so I could have a massive jukebox in my glove compartment. I packed 998 albums into that 80GB unit. One of them was this album. Sadly, I largely ignored this album when it came out because I was annoyed by Danzig's penchant for Baptist-bating. Whilst I am no Baptist I see no point in goading them.

I first discovered spun this album in the car about 2 weeks ago while traveling to a nearby town for a Super Bowl party. Boy was I surprised! I must have spunt this 20 times since then. It keeps getting better. This album in strictly a masterpiece and one of the consummate achievements in Heavy Metal history. It stands shoulder-to-shoulder with AC/DC's Back in Black, Metallica's Master of Puppets, Guns N' Roses Appetite for Destruction, and Tool's Ænima. Yep, it's one of those kind of albums. This is truly astounding stuff.

5 out of 5 stars Very underated and one of his most complete efforts.......2007-02-01

This CD is very underated and IMO is definately one of Danzig's best. Some might argue that genius kick ace tracks like Black Mass or Skincarver are missing here but overall this one is better than 7 or COS. A complete CD that rocks from start to finish. This one is worth the time.

3 out of 5 stars clean it up.......2006-12-30

well i think alot of reason this album is not rated high among danzig fans is because the first 4 albums were so good and so distinct. I bought this because i was curious to see what danzig sounded like in his later days as i am big fan of the true danzig sound of 88-94. THis album to me sounds like industrial metal the guitars are dirty and lack the sonic clarity and power of the past, old danzig had a very powerful rock sound and this album to me sounds like the mixing and production really ruins whatever potential it had otherwise. Glenn sounds like he is recovering from the flu or from strep throat on this album. WHich was bound to happen sooner or later everybody gets old eventualy but what i don't like is the huge change in the overall "sound" of the band. I think if i wanted the best of the new danzig perhaps circle of snakes would be better i hear that is more of a back to basics album.Get this CD if you are a hardcore fan and make your own mind up about it, Danzig is a great band and are worth checking out and i don't begrudge anones opinion that thinks this is a good album. I just think less is more, like for instance the song 13 which was written for johnny cash, if they produced it like they did the danzig 3 album , all stripped down and clear with that dark bluesy metal feel it would be a danzig classic, the way it is layed out on this album it can't capture the magic of Glenns vocals. This is a so so album from a great band of the late 80's and early 90's

    Customer Reviews:

    4 out of 5 stars decent album.......2007-07-15

I bought this album because I am a huge fan of The Misfits, Samhain and Danzig. I didn't know what to expect.

Musically this album absolutely rocks! It's heavy and very punk but can also be melodic at times.

I am not really a fan of AFI. I know what some of their songs are about (horror punk rock) and even saw them live once back on the Danzig/Samhain tour back at the end of 1999. While they were great live (and the pit was moshing 2 seconds before the music even started) the vocals never really did it for me. I was used to Danzig's rough growl. While I didn't hate it, it was a bit different.

This CD is good but the vocals really don't do it for me. I don't hate the vocals, I just wasn't used to them. They are not so bad now.

Davey Havok wrote all the songs here. For the most part they are dark (how I like em) and the only really bad song here is Invocation. The music for it is great, but the lyrics seem very uninspired and kind of flat. But the rest of this CD is amazing.

Of Power has some great keyboards and the fast drumming by London May is incredible. Stray, Evernight and In The Hills are all a great mixture of Samhain and AFI. The title track here starts a bit slow and is followed by two even better songs in Satiate and Of Man.

Michael is clearly the best song here. The writing is awesome and this is Davey's best vocal. Purevil wasn't quite as good as the other songs, but still decent. And Invocation I have already commented on.

So i can imagine that any AFI or Samhain fan has this already. If not, I would suggest picking it up even if you're a fan on both bands or only one of them. This is a good solid CD. 4 stars for this.

    5 out of 5 stars Awesome CD!.......2007-02-14

This CD is so weird that it's just awesome! i love it, it's addictive. it's a perfect combo of people for this band. i swear that i read that the lead singer of the misfits was in this, but i'm not sure. i don't see or hear anything about him in it... :( oh well, awesome CD.

    5 out of 5 stars I love this album!.......2007-01-13

It's only been a month or two that I got this cd and it quickly became one of my favorites. Great lyrics, great vocals, great music. I highly recommend this.

    5 out of 5 stars Rock Superteam.......2006-11-03

If you like Afi and high energy music with a classic hard rock feel, then you will love Son of Sam. It's an ally of Danzig(misfits), Afi and Tiger Army. If you like any of those bands you will appreciate this cd. It's not for everyone have you..it's like fine wine, you must already have an aquired taste to like Son of Sam. If you do, you won't be disappointed. This is a classic cd in the staple of Rock. It also makes a good soundtrack while playing Doom or Halo. For those of you who know what I mean, get this rare cd before they are all gone.

5 out of 5 stars one of my all time fav cds.......2006-01-06

This is a great album, the best part is in the lyrics, though the music is good too. The lryics are meaningful, makes you think, and has its own evil but interesting philosophy on life. Listen to "michael" and if you like it, you'll probably like all the other songs. This might not be for everyone if you don't get it.

4 out of 5 stars another great album.......2007-02-19

This is a great album, not as great as the others, but still enjoyable. While this albums packs in all the elements of his first three albums, it's not recorded very well and the production is lacking here a bit.

'Brand New God' is a bit of a weak opener, but I can't really see what else could open this album, so this the defualt opener I guess. It's still a good song, filled with a bit of distortion that makes the song that much more crazy to listen to. 'Little Whip' is a great song that captures that feeling of anticipation. The song eventually does explode into a mass of distorted guitar and bass. Cantspeak is a song with backwards music that the drummer just laid a beat to. Going Down To Die is a ballad type song that works for the most part, but the writing is a bit weak. 'Until You Call On The Dark' features a bit of the techno type vocal style and guitar that he would use on Blackacidevil. 'Dominion' is the best song here, filled with dark images and non rhyming verse. It sounds more like a lamentation or recited prayer than lyrics.

'Bringer Of Death' is another non rhyming song that's played very well. I like this just for the nice riff and the great section of bass in the middle that's all too short. It's too bad Eerie Von didn't get to be in the spotlight a little more than just 10 seconds. 'Sadistikal' is a strange poem spoken over with more backwards drums and music. It is interesting, but too long for its own good. It seems he was running out of ideas here and starting doing all kinds of strange things. Even the bonus track (Invocation) features more backward music and spoken vocals. While interesting, it doesn't make great music. 'Son Of The Morning Star' is a well written song with a great powerful riff and heavy drums. The song can be taken many ways, but i usually interpet this song as being a racial statement. The best line being: 'am i more damned than thou?' and 'do i feel less than thou?'

The last three songs here are a bit weak. 'I Don't Mind The Pain' is the best of the three. 'Stalker Song' is a nice idea and does have some nice whispered vocals but is performed weakly. The song is also about 2 minutes too long. 'Let It Be Captured' is good. The lyrics are well written, but the performance is again very weak. This song also runs a bit too long and should have been edited.

So this is a great album that has a few not so good songs on it, and two songs that should have been shortened. But the way the songs are sequenced it balances the good and bad relatively well. (Except for the last three songs). I Don't Mind The Pain should have been the closer and the other two songs put after Son Of The Morning Star.

Anyway, buy this album. It's great, but not as good as it could, and should have been. 4 stars only.

    4 out of 5 stars its worth a spin..........2006-12-14

get this last...start with danzig 2 then get 1 and 3...buy this last if you like the others. i like this one the least buts its still ok. 4 stars is a compliment really. with tracks 13-65 being nothing but dead air time seems kind of pointless just so the final read on your cd plaer will read like this 66 (for track 66) and the time is 61 minutes and 38 seconds. so ur cd player sais this 66 61:38. 666 mark of the beast? and 138 his misfits song? coincidence? i dont see how it could be.

5 out of 5 stars the danzig frontier.......2006-05-17

honestly what is their not to say about this album.as glen said in an interview he likes to take him and his band member and push their entire souls to the limit.in this album many subjects are not only covered but, you can actually feel them come out and bite you right in the ass tracks like the stalker song with the mentallity of a stalker and the combination of a great chorus and riffing power ballads this album is a must danzig reaches up and above with songs such as going down to die taking it one step father with son of the morning star this song is in perfect and should have been omitted to the omen 1 soundtrack the feeling of the antichrist but, on the depressing note of that crazy reallity hey i am the son of hell and this is my misery well i can't stop talking but i will this is a must have for any TRUE danzig fans later mr andrew

4 out of 5 stars Good but could've been classic.......2006-04-28

I have all the Danzig albums and this one is very different than many. Although this is a must own for true Danzig fans, it leaves me with a sense of "what could've been". There are some outstanding tracks here. The opener "Brand New God" is disappointing and should've been better. Why in the world you put Sadistikal in the middle of this recording is beyond me. It is maddenly stupid and absolute filler.

All in all, this is a great CD. Take out Sadistikal and include a tight opener and this CD could have been the best Danzig ever recorded IMO. Also, removing the ridiculous ending to this CD should've been a no brainer. A hidden 2 min speech on track 66? Come on Danzig!!

2 out of 5 stars ok album, but needs more original-type stuff on it.......2005-03-25

If u are first starting to like danzig, buy the first 3 albums first because they are way better. Danzig 4 is probbably one of the worse albums of danzig.
