The 2,700 performances of Lerner and Loewe's musical adaptation of George Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion gracefully spanned the Eisenhower and Camelot eras, then begat a wildly popular film version, whose 1965 Best Picture Oscar capped the show's decade of prominence. The crowning achievement of Lerner and Loewe's rich body of work began its recording life on this 1956 cast recording, a collection of performances that long ago became a ubiquitous and indispensable fixture of American musical theater. I found My Fair Lady full of beautiful arrangements and excellent vocals. Can't get better then the sound of Julie Andrews!!!! Although Julie did not get the movie roll this makes me appreciate the movie even more.

I initially really enjoyed the movie my fair lady and wanted a sound track so I could continue to enjoy the music. However, upon recieving the cd, I was especially disappointed with one aspect - the language. I knew Professor Higgins and others had used profanity on the film, and was ok with it. You hear it once and move on. However, I don't want a cd playing around my family that my kids are learning to dance, sing, and act out a song that has rather obvious swear words. After 1 listen I picked out at least three instances of swearing, the worst being I've Grown Accustomed to Her Face (my otherwise favorite song!) The song starts out d--n, d--n, d--n! It's shouted.

MY FAIR LADY, one of the most well-loved and beautifully made musicals, was a definitive vehicle for the career of (then) twenty year old Julie Andrews, as the "loverly" Cockney flower girl, Eliza Doolittle. Between Andrews' soaring soprano (which is especially poignant to hear, today, considering that she can no longer sing as she once did) and the great supporting cast, lead by Rex Harrison, as Dr. Henry Higgins, the bored professor who takes her under his wing as a special project to mold into a dignified lady, this is a five star show!

The story was actually based on PYGMALION, by the late, great playwright, George Bernard Shaw, inspired by Greek mythology. In the original Greek play, Pygmalion is the sculptor who creates a depiction of a woman, out of ivory, and falls in love with it. He prays to Venus, and then his sculpture is brought to life, as Galatea. In the musical, the gist is similar but the journey and characters veer from this concept considerably. For starters, no one starts out as a piece of stone--especially not Eliza Doolittle. She has definite opinions and a distinctive personality (saucy language and all), that Dr. Doolittle is very keen on shaping up for society. The music is perfectly in synch with the mood of this great play, which is in some ways a true parable about human behavior and the treatment of women in society. Some of the most beautiful music by Lerner and Loewe is featured here. The songs include "Wouldn't It Be Loverly," "I've Grown Accustomed To Her Face," and "Get Me to the Church On Time." This is brilliant. Buy this today! I am not sure how great the sound quality is on audio cassette, in comparison to the original recording on vinyl that I heard, as a little girl. I have a feeling it's pretty spectacular though!

For years I had only the movie soundtrack and I was perfectly content with it, it was after all one of the best shows ever to hit the boards and I think Marie Nixon did a wonderful in the role of Liza Doolittle - she matched Hepburns voice closely plus she's a professional singer who soars with good material.

It's amazing listening to Ms. Nixon in The King & I; she is much closer to Deborah Kerr's voice and they sounded more natural between speaking and singing but that was the clinker for me. I realized the distance between Ms. Hepburn and Ms. Nixon in the movie version - so I went back to square one and GOT THE ORIGINAL.

You have to hand it to Goddard Leiberman (head of Columbia years ago and protege of Fanny Brice) for starting the tradition of recording Original Broadway Cast 'albums' at the time they opened.

Finally listening to Julie Andrews sing the most popular songs from one of the best shows ever penned almost made me cry. You can tell she's riding the crest of the wave - she literally soars, defying gravity. Her diction, as always, is perfect but she's perfect as the brash cockney flower girl, a young girl on an adventure and a refinded lady. I will always be grateful to Marnie Nixon for the work she did for the film but once you listen to original Eliza Doolittle you will realize there is only ONE and that ONE is JULIE ANDREWS.

Yes, her leading man is also good. One surprise however was Stanley Holloway - it was a shock to realizae that it was about ten years between the show and the film and he does sound ten years younger. The man is a delight at any age, it's not important, it just adds to the fun.

If you really like the show, and the songs, treat yourself and get the Original Broadway Cast - the cast hit the studio at the peak of their form with a solid hit under their belt and that confidence sets this recording light years ahead of any other recording.

Now if it were in stero that would make it a 5 star review.

Rarely has a songwriter joined forces with such a distinguished array of collaborators, as New England's Kris Delmhorst shares credit for this material with the likes of Lord Byron, Walt Whitman, George Eliot, E.E. Cummings, and Rumi. Yet never do these adaptations from poetry (and some prose) have a whiff of academic stuffiness about them. To the contrary--the album could be appreciated as much for its musical range as its literary inspiration, as Delmhorst transforms the Whitman passage she titles "Light of the Light" into exuberantly Beatlesque pop, matches Eliot with a Dixieland brass section on "Invisible Choir," gives Cummings's "Anyone Lived in a Pretty How Town" a ragtime playfulness that evokes memories of the jug band era, and turns the rousing closer of Rumi's "Everything Is Music" into a spirited campfire singalong. She adapts her voice to fit the material and the arrangements, from the breathy intimacy of "Since You Went Away" and the languid torch song "Tavern" (which draws as much from the style of Peggy Lee as the words of Edna St. Vincent Millay) to the edgy, wiry rock of "Water Water." --Don McLeese

I heard this CD reviewed on KCRW and was very moved by the artist's voice and her idea to convert favorite poems into songs. My favorite track by far is the first on the playlist: Galuppi Baldessare. Delmhorst has sort of a Nora Jones/Shawn Colvin thing going on. Whimsical and deep at the same time. Very enjoyable to listen to at dinner time, with kids, in the car, while working...pretty much any time or place. Go for it!

Heard Kris Delmhorst being interviewed and singing on NPR, and what an interesting project this is! It appealed to me on both literary merits and for the snappy songwriting. The e e cummings poem "Pretty How Town" is not done the way one would expect -- sad or romantic -- but is a perky cowgirl-type song.

I heard an interview of Kris Delmhorst on NPR and clips of her music, and went straigt out and bought this CD. It is one of those CDs that you actually buy because you like all the songs, not just one or two. Nice mellow, high quality Folk music.

I first heard sonme of the tracks from this album on NPR here in the states. The basic concept is simple, take selections of poetry and set them to music.
Notable tracks are Galuppi Baldessare, and Invisible Choir. Galuppi Baldesare comes in with a bounce, a poem about music set to music would be a chalenge for some but Kris's voice swings in with a driving beat and a wonderful diction which makes the words leap out at you. Poetry is wordcraft and this presentation lifts the words off the page and throws them at you. The setings are diverse and ideosyncratic and well worth listening to. Give it a listen, I'm sure you'l like it.

This set lends itself to greatly enhancing one's knowledge of the orchestra, instruments in it, and their usage. I am a huge music buff, and I still picked up a great deal I previously did not know. I highly recommend this for all who wish to understand the origin of music, as well as the processes that are employed to create music!

This CD is excellent for the beginner or expert! To be able to haear the instrumets separately and then together really provides a good education. and/or refresher. The book thaty comes with the CD is alomost worth the price by itself!

Whether you're a music novice or pro, "The instruments of the Orchestra" is a very worthwhile purchase. The 7 CDs, with a total of 8 hours, are expertly narrated by Jeremy Siepmann. He's a great speaker, very much like the late Leonard Bernstein was. Mr. Siepmann takes you on an unforgetable musical journey covering the origins and use of the various orchestral instruments throughout musical history. The balance between his narration and a wealth of musical examples, which range from snippets to entire movements, is superb. The comprehensive enclosed booklet is excellent and faithfully follows the 7 CDs in content. Even with my 40+ years of music training I still learned new things from this wonderful collection. Considering the excellence of the content, and a cost that translates to about $5 per disc, this collection is a great value. Grab it, you won't regret that you did. Five solid stars!

This boxed set of CD's with booklet achieved all I had hoped that it would. There are good samples of individual instruments and well done commentary on each. The only drawback was that some of the samples were too brief and could have been longer, hoiwever I guess this fits in with time constraints of the medium. It has given me a lot of clues as to future purchases of CD's for listening to individual instruments. Altogeth a satisfactory purchase and a welcome addition to my collection.

I've listened to classical music for years and am interested in composition. I bought this CD set to learn how an orchestra and its instruments work. I thought the CDs would be a nice but boring lecture. They aren't! Not only are they FUN but they are informative as well. I learned a huge amount from each CD and couldn't wait to listen to the next one.

The narrator and writer is a great speaker and holds your attention well. He is definitely knowledgeable. He provides musical examples for each point he makes, so you get to "hear" what he just talked about. I'd say the CDs are about 65% music and 35% narration. You'll learn about the range of instruments, some history, different ways to play them, how they sound, and how they are used in the orchestra. This CD set was a great learning experience and is sold at such a low price!

I recommend this CD for those who want to learn about classical music and those who know about it but are interested in learning more about the inner workings of an orchestra. You'll learn much useful information. For instance, the Rite of Spring (with that eerie start) is written for bassoon! I never knew a bassoon could sound like that but now I do.

The one complaint I have is the last CD. This deals with the orchestra. I wanted more of a tour of how the orchestra has been used through history up to the present. Instead, it was a tour of how different groups of instruments sound. I thought it could have been better. The other 6 CDs are excellent.

I didn't even know of this album until the 2000's.....too bad i missed it, but glad i caught it eventually. Got that classic laid back westcoast sound. Love this 1, burned myself 3-4 extra copies incase i bust the original....won't be able to find this again at Best Buy or anything. Good cut.

The Twinz' "Conversation" is among the most overlooked G-Funk albums ever. Despite the fact that it helped to pioneer the genre, it also was one of the best of the genre ever recorded. It came soon after Warren G's "Regulate...G-Funk Era", and it's not a far throw from that album, as many of the elements that make that album so classic are present here. If you liked "Regulate...", which if you've heard it I can't imagine you don't, you'll definitely like "Conversation". Like on that album, Warren G produces and co-writes every song, and the same guest features of Lil' Malik, the Dove Shack, and Warren himself are present. Although "Conversation" doesn't have a single as great as "Regulate" or "This DJ", I prefer "Conversation" as a whole. The album flows better, is more consistent, and every track is as great as the next. Warren's production is among his best, with the pounding bass, woozy synths, funky guitars, and hard beats that we all know and love. Wayniac and Trip Locc are good on the mic, usually reminiscing over times and friends in their beloved Long Beach or telling of drug tales. "Conversation" is one of the best albums to come out of the mid-90s G-funk craze.

After the short intro, the album leads off with "Round and Round", featuring Nancy Fletcher, which sets the standard with the funky production, lyrics, and hook. "Good Times" is one of my favorites here, with the brothers reminiscing over their younger days and looking ahead, and the woozy beat is perfect. "4 Eyes 2 Heads" tells a gangster tale, and has a reggae influenced hook by Judah Ranks. "Jump to This", a party track, is another of my favorites, with its funk guitar and synth. "Eastside LB", featuring Warren G, is a classic, laidback joint representing their hometown. "Sorry I Kept You" is probably my favorite song on the album, where the Twinz lay back and rap of drugs, old times, and it has a great hook line and production. On "Journey With Me" is another very laidback and fun song. After the pretty good "Hollywood" comes the excellent "1st Round Draft Pick". The lyrics on this song are among the best, and the beat reminds me of A Tribe Called Quest's "Check the Rhime", believe it or not. "Don't Get it Twisted" has the best chorus, sung by New Birth, and the lyrics and beats don't disappoint. The album is ended by another great weed song, "Pass it On".

"Conversation" is one of the most consistent west coast G-funk albums ever recorded. It is completely laid back and fun, which is what the music always strived to achieve. Warren G's immaculate production and Wayniac and Trip Locc's lyricism combine for an excellent, amazingly consistent album that I highly recommend.

Continuing on my mission to discover all that g funk has to offer, I came across "Conversation." With scores of more publicized 1995 g funk albums, it's a shame that the releases of more mainstream artists overshadowed this classic. It's just as worthy. With Warren G at the helm, Twinz--Deon (Trip Locc) and Dewayne (Wayniac) Williams--turned out 11 pure g funk tracks. With the G Child in charge, the lyrics aren't as hard as other artists, with little to no profanity. In addition, Warren G also wisely chooses his crooners, the glue that holds together the standout tracks on this album. They aren't as well-known as Nate Dogg, but they hold their own. Once again, with each song, the sounds make us think of palm trees, summertime, beaches and just crusin. The tracks are just so laid-back, and the Twinz make sure to rap just a bit louder than the melodies. The beats, as always, are the main attraction, but the lyrics are pretty good.

Conversation has one classic, "Journey With Me," which in my opinion is one of the best g funk songs of all time. The bass line is brilliant. Watch for the guitar at the beginning of the second verse. It sends chills down my spine every time I hear it. Throughout the album there are actually real instruments supplementing the rhythms: percussion, horns, guitars. This only adds to the quality of the album. With good speakers...wow! So multi-layered, commanding and overwhelming. Other memorable songs are "Eastside LB," which is nearly a classic. It's so melodic. To someone who says rap can't be beautiful, let them hear this. "Don't Get it Twisted" is another good one and "Hollywood," which has grown on me, is cool as well. The rest of the songs are okay, though I don't listen to them too often. They seem out of place in an album that has songs that are as good as the classics on Regulate, Doggystyle and The Chronic. The quality just drops down a few notches, for some reason. Warren G seems to go for something different in songs like "Jump to this" and "Pass it On," which are sort of party songs, though I couldn't see myself dancing to them. So what are they? It just doesn't work and the sound for these lesser songs sounds nearly the same. In fact, I usually think of the rest of these songs as one song. In addition, the male and female crooners (New Birth, Bo Rocc, etc... ) used in the good songs aren't utilized well, if it all.

All in all the album is memorable. There are 4 excellent songs on here. Nothing can take away from that. Even the ones I knocked aren't that bad. The Twinz should've come out with more albums. With more refinement and experience, I'm sure their next one would've been even better. Add this one to your g funk collection. Let their lone album live on.

This album is crazy full of sweet G-Funk songs. Warren G helped Twinz do it perfectly with his G-Funk beats. And Twinz' rapping is addictive, too. This album should've been multi-platinum just like Warren G's "Regulate... G Funk Era" did. Because every song is classic!!!

3. Good Times (5/5) - Very melodical and good enough to close your eyes and reminisce about the good times.

4. 4 Eyes 2 Heads (5/5) - One and only gangsta track on this album. Hook is kinda catchy and the beat is crazy. Produced by Priest Brooks.

5. Jump Ta This (5/5) - Classic. The beat is so damn funky that even makes listeners nod your head to this.

6. Eastside LB (5/5) - One of the best tracks on this album. Even if you listen to this song all day, you'll never be bored.

7. Sorry I Kept You (5/5) - Crazy bass line. Quotes a line from Eric B. & Rakim's "My Melody" - "Times up, sorry I kept you."

9. Journey Wit Me (5/5) - Very comfortable song. Especially Bo-Rocc's vocal is the highlight of this song.

10. Hollywood (5/5) - Da 5Footaz featured on it. The collaboration is so great and without saying, the beat it crazy.

11. 1st Round Draft Pick (4/5) - Great sample from Minnie Riperton's "Baby, This Love I Have". But if you're not deep into the G-Funk music, you won't be fond of this track.

13. Don't Get It Twisted (Featuring New Birth) (5/5) - So crazy!!! New Birth's vocals go well with Twinz' rapping.

14. Pass It On (4/5) - Foesum featured on it! Every rapper on this song spit some must-listen-rhymes.

This album is a slept-on classic...not a masterpiece but a damn classic. Warren G's protege's Tripp Locc & Wayniac are blessed with (in my opinion) Warren's best production.

This is the definition of funky, laid back Cali-style Hip-Hop. I live in Toronto, therefore the east-coast & this is one of my favorite summer albums ever. Front to back, Warren & the Twinz teleport me to a loungin' Cali mindstate w/ every track. Everytime I'm coolin' out in the summer w/ some booze & weed I find myself puttin' this classic on. It also works as a great album for a backyard party/BBQ whatever, it's versatile and always a crowd pleaser.

The thing that makes this album so unique is the fact that all the amazing beats sound like something Snoop and/or the Dogg Pound would have the pleasure of rhyming over - however, the Twinz do every track justice and they keep it pretty clean w/ meaningful, insightful lyrics & themes. So it's like classic DPG sh*t, only not as dirty. Dope beats, dope MC's - an overall amazing album.

Bottom Line: Any fan of Snoop & the DPG will love this. Any fan of gettin' blunted and loungin' to a phat album will love this. This album is sadly slept-on and EVERYONE I play it for absolutely loves it. 5 stars (it's not a masterpiece, but I just love this album too much), Peace.

I don't understand how so many people can say that "Open Letter" was his best album. I just don't see it. It actually took me a minute before I bought Open Letter because I wasn't feelin' Missing You or his other single. That was because they wore the song out, the lyrics were too sappy for me, and he jacked that rhythm from Mary J's "You Are Everything." Anyway, This album was the first Case album I ever bought, and I couldn't stop playing it during the Winter/Spring of 05'. The production was awesome. When him and Spoiled Rotten Ent. made songs, they were on point. Best song on there hands down is "Another Minute." Following really close after that is "Caught You," and then "He Don't Love You." That beat hits so hard on that song it doesn't make sense, and he killed that joint. But yea, after hearing Happily ever after millions of times, it took awhile to bring that song back. But all in all, I can listen to this cd all the way through. The only problem I had with the joint was that it was too short and not enough songs. But this joint is hot. To get intro'd into case BUY THIS JOINT FIRST! Especially if u're into some good music that is for ridin, and chillin. KD Holla.

WOW! WHAT CAN I SAY!?

I know music, been writing music for years now. Music is my life. When it comes to buying R&B music, I love to go out in a limb and buy someones CD I've never even heard of, in this case it was Case.

Im a give this CD a 4 star rating though, (his other cd "Open Letter" is a 5 star cd!) But an awesome cd and very well put together yet again! He's very consistant with his music.

To make a exceptional cd you must have the following:
First off, the beat must go with the songs flow. The lyrics must match the beat. The vocals (background, etc) must compliment, but not raze the song. I can say one of the very best R&B songs ever but together would contain:

Carl Thomas - Emotional
Donell Jones - Life Goes On

In 1954, Judy Garland gave the most acclaimed performance of her career as a musical movie star in George Cukor's musical remake of the 1937 straight-up drama A Star Is Born. After its premiere, the film was heavily edited and would not be seen in its near complete form again for nearly thirty years. Judy was nominated for an Academy Award for her performance, but lost to Grace Kelly, to the chagrin of many Garland fans to this day, as well as many celebrities of the day. (Groucho Mark famously called it the biggest robbery since Brinks.)

In all that mess, the soundtrack was released by Columbia on vinyl record in mono and has since never been out of print and was a best-seller for years. In 1988, Columbia took the musical numbers and the overture directly from the film's stereo soundtrack (As, sadly, stereo soundtrack masters no longer existed.) and released those onto CD. The sound quality was somewhat horrendous, but digital audio was still in its infancy and not much else could be done.

In 2004, for the film's 50th anniversary, Columbia, Legacy, and Sony Music Soundtrax released this incredible new expanded remastered CD reissue of the film's soundtrack. This is the most complete soundtrack you can find and it's definitely worth upgrading from your 1988 CD release.

This CD contains not only all of the songs, including an extended intro to The Man That Got Away which was shortened in the film as well as the complete intro to Gotta Have Me Go With You, but also contains a near complete release of the instrumental score, which includes whole tracks and parts of tracks that were not used in the film, as well as an alternate vocal take of It's A New World, the deleted When My Sugar Walks Down The Street segment from Born In A Trunk, and a static-y complete version of The Trinidad Coconut Oil Shampoo Commercial, which was taken from a worn acetate playback disc - the only complete recording in existence.

The soundtrack is taken from a mixing and matching of several elements, such as acetate playback discs, the original Columbia mono soundtrack album masters, and the film's 4-track stereo soundtrack, among others. This means that the soundtrack goes back and forth from being stereo and mono. However, this does not detract from my listening experience any, and frankly, I can't tell much of a difference. One interesting note is that Gotta Have Me Go With You uses both the film's soundtrack and the mono soundtrack album masters to create a faithful listening experience, from the mono instrumental intro to the song itself, which except for a short portion, is taken from the film's 4-channel soundtrack. (The mono portion of the vocal part was used to edit out some plot-related screams that were present in the 1988 release. This method of retaining the aural integrity of Gotta Have Me Go With You was also used when it was included on the Rhino Records compilation Judy Garland In Hollywood: Her Greatest Movie Hits.)

Despite the fact that this soundtrack is taken from several different surviving elements and sadly not from a single set of elements, as Warner Bros. didn't have the foresight to save everything like MGM and Disney did, this is an excellent presentation of this landmark soundtrack. The sound quality for the most part is excellent, and the liner notes are also wonderful. Garland historian John Fricke writes a small essay on the production of the film and an annotated guide to the soundtrack, which gives a synopsis of the plot and also indicates where the tracks from the CD appear in the film. Producer Didier C. Deutsch also writes a small essay on the creation of this CD release, giving notes on the elements and some specific tracks.

Amazon is offering this soundtrack at an excellent price, and I have to say, it's a bargain for a soundtrack of this caliber and sound quality. Any Garland fan or movie soundtrack fan should have this in their collection.

A really excellent soundtrack to go with an excellent movie. This is some of Judy Garland's best material in both music and acting. The power of her voice on "The Man That Got Away" is amazing. "Born In A Trunk", "It's A New World", "Someone At Last" and "Lose That Long Face" are other recommended tracks. This is a MUST HAVE for all you Judy Garland fans.

Judy Garland's finest film work was "A Star Is Born." Because she and her husband, Sid Luft, were also the producers, it was the most intensely involving production she had ever undertaken. The laser focus of her brilliant talent was never before realized on film to this degree. Also, she had gained tremendous personal confidence due to the unprecedented audience response to the concerts she had done between her MGM films and ASIB. The love with which the live audience embraced her, brought new heights to her acting as well.
The production values of the film were top of the line and it shows on this fine CD. It's a chance to experience Judy's talent on a more intimate basis without the visuals.
A must-have for every serious Garland collector.

This reissued remaster of A STAR IS BORN is a must-own for fans of the movie, and in particular those who were somewhat dissatified by the previous CD edition (CK 44389). That edition was great for offering us most of the main numbers in stereo/mono mix but was marred by poor analogue distortion and other remastering problems (though this was the best that could have been done at the time). This new edition (CK 65965) presents the entire score, including background and incidental sections as well as the cut material, in a sparkling new package.

The big bonus for getting this latest edition is for Garland's complete rendition of "The Trinidad Coconut Oil Shampoo Commercial" (without the dialogue of James Mason). This has been taken from a rare acetate master, so while the sound quality is not the best, having the number complete without interrupting dialogue is a more than ample compensation. You will notice too that "Lose That Long Face" has been newly mastered from a better stereo source (cutting out the thunder-crashes that were heard on the first CD master, and Garland's singing no longer has those violent analogue fluctuations during the introduction). "Gotta Have Me Go with You" is now presented without the screams and noises, in a new master from the mono soundtrack.

"When My Baby Walks Down the Street", a section cut from the "Born in a Trunk" sequence, has been added as a bonus track. This sparkling-new STAR IS BORN reissue is a great tribute to what is most definitely Judy Garland's greatest hour on film.

Was there ever a more perfect voice than the one possessed by Judy Garland? Powerful yet gentle. Dynamic yet restrained. Bone-chilling yet soothing. She had the pipes!

And her instrument was showcased at its best in the music from her triumphant "A Star is Born".

This expanded version is a bona-fide treasure with the highlight being Garland's earth-shattering "The Man That Got Away," presented with vocals and several instrumental versions. Along with "Somewhere Over the Rainbow," "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas," and "The Trolley Song", "The Man That Got Away" is an essential for Garland fans, as well as those that know a good song when they hear it.

The fifteen-minute medley that was featured in the film as the "introduction" of "Vicki" to the public is another outstanding track, featuring "Born in a Trunk", "Suwanee," and "My Melancholy Baby," all exquisitely performed by the legendary talent.

Clocking in at just under eighty minutes, the soundtrack to the classic film is, indeed, in a class by itself, and deserving of repeated listening, maintaining its "freshness" after more than five decades.

I am about to have my ninth baby and I needed some music to slim down to. I am a belly dancer and I like to dance to Western music (in private) more than to the Eastern music. With two months left to go, I may dance this baby out! Very dancable, strong catchy rhythm. This is the kind of music that gets in your head and you can't get it out. . .and it's OK!

I love this update mix of a forgotten Elvis classic. It sounds really contemporary and if it will get younger people interested in the King, I'm all for it. Some people may not approve of remixing an Elvis song, but if the results are like this, I'm not gonna complain. Of course, this song was included on 30 # 1 Hits, but you have to get the single to get the six minute 12" Extended Remix. Too much of a good thing? Not as far as I'm concerned. It should be pointed out that the third version included here is not the original version from Live a Little, Love a Little. It's the version recorded for, but not used in, the '68 Comeback Special. This version was the one that was used by JXL in his remixes.

In a scene from "Pulp Fiction" that never made it into the theaters Mia Wallace (as played by Uma Thurman) referred to the dichotomy of Beatles people vs. Elvis people--you can like them both, but you always like one more than the other. I've always considered myself a committed Beatles person, but if DJ Junkie XL has his way with more forgotten Elvis tunes I may have to reconsider my entire belief system!

I'll be the first to admit that I ain't no dancer, yet it's impossible to keep still to the two remixed versions of "A Little Less Conversation" included on this disc. JXL took a decent if unremarkable song that Elvis performed in the psychedelia-influenced (albeit without the drugs!) 1968 film "Live a Little, Love a Little" and turned it into something that works 35 years later. A remarkable feat in itself, and a fitting tribute to The King (whose talent also had something to do with it...).

Even the very sparse-sounding original version included as Track 3 has a nice groove to it, though it clocks in at just over 1:30 and seems a bit cut off at the end (I don't remember if the song ended so abruptly in the film). It is a pleasure to hear all three versions of the song included on this disc, which allowed me to better appreciate the contributions of both artists to "A Little Less Conversation".

Great remix of a lesser known song has brought new found respect to a whole new generation.The song went number one in dozens of countries. I cant wait for the next remix. ELV1S recorded dozens of great songs that most people dont know about. BMG should keep remixing lesser known songs and releasing them to introduce ELV1S to millions of new fans all over the world.

This cd is proof that talent is ageless and without regard to style or custom or what's "in" or genre. Elvis is still the best singer to walk the planet. He's got the groove, the style, and he does it with heart and grace... all these years later. I think more of his songs should be brought back to life. We need music like this today to feel good about.

One could only imagine my excitement when two of my favorite bands, Waterdeep & 100 Portraits, joined together to make a worship album; I wasn't disappointed. The "First Circle" was an amazing experience, but it didn't end there. 100 Portraits gave us another Circle, which was also good but not as good as the first. Now, with the "Third Circle," Ben & Robin Pasley (100 Portraits) have joined thier incredible talent and rhythms with Kate Hurley and Berry & Michelle Patterson to record the most incredible worship album I have ever heard. The songs are extremely intimate as only guitars and hand percussion instruments are used, but they are also filled with life, moving the listener into the presence of God. This is a must have album! Finally, some inovative Christian music that is setting standards instead of simply copying redundant mainstream junk.

Yes, like you, I was hesitant to purchase the third installment of Enter The Worship Circle. Yes, like me, you will purchase this album and not be disappointed.

The First installment blew me away (four stars). The Second was good and had it's moments but was redundant in places to the first (3 stars). The Third installment might actually be as good, if not better than the first, because it manages to match the first in emotional punch and lyrical beauty yet retains a freshness it shouldn't have as a sequel but does.

If this album doesn't make you get up and dance and sing along then you probably have died and NOT gone to heaven.

This CD was mailed to me right here in the middle of a stressful time in art college- I have escaped into it every evening, and even brought it to listen to in my studio. I am an avid follower of the Pasley's, and their hearts, and the hearts of the other people on this album are so sincere and beautful. Tracks 5, 11, and 14 are my favorites!

I usually write loooooong reviews for cds (see my others). But let's put that to rest just once and vote..

If you think this sort of music (among other indie rockers of any kind) should get the attention of major labels instead of the same old non-talented pretty-boy/girl artists of today who should have modeled for Calvin Klien instead of ruin the music buisness, push YES. If you want to flush music down the toilet, say NO.

Great. This is one of the few flawless albums out there. Not your average emo. Get it if you want to hear something different.

Also check out the Jealous Sound (same lead singer, same sound but more mature)

5 out of 5 stars SAVED THE BEST FOR LAST.......2004-06-22

Unfortunately, Knapsack is no longer a band. However, their legacy burns bright with this ripping final album. Not only did Knapsack never put out a bad album (how many bands can honestly say that), unlike their prior efforts, there's not a bad track on this CD. It's still a mystery to me how this band never really got discovered and made the mainstream, but that's part of their allure.

What can I say this is a great cd from start to finish. Mixed by Mark Trombino (Who recently produced Finch's debut) this cd even just sonically sounds awesome. I just love Blair Shehan's voice he can do this smooth singing and then a really contained yell and no one sounds remotely like him. Pretty much all 10 songs are solid but stand-out ones are : Katherine The Grateful, Change Is All The Rage, Cinema Stare and the great closer Please Shut Off The Lights. I think this cd is a real hidden gem and the only problem with it is that it's only 10 songs. But definately check out the Jealous Sound too which is Blair Shehan's new band (Knapsack broke up after this cd) because they are amazing.

I was directed to Knapsack based upon my affinity to Jawbreaker and Samiam. I can barely see a similarity, although I can acknowledge that one exists: All the above-mentioned bands sing heartfelt if not somewhat cryptic lyrics, are a little rough around the edges in a good way and talented with their instruments, and write emotive songs.

Unfortunately, this band is somewhat boring and juvenile. I can see high school chicks swooning to the singer's voice, and saying to themselves "Ooh, we are SOOO Ahhlternative!" I once had a band that ... , and we just messed around for fun, but we had one song entitled "Generic Alternative Song," which was intended to make fun of music exactly like this. And we wrote that song over 10 years ago, which pretty much says to me that not much has changed in lame alternative music over the years.

The music is overall very non-offensive, and does very little to inspire me. The vocalist sings in a pretentious whispery voice most of the time, and I can't stand that. Sure, they may be talented... but so is Barry Manilow and Whitney Houston... not that there's any similarity other than they all play music I don't like.

The reason why it doesn't get only one star is because I am a big fan of the guitarist... but I guess even if Jimi Hendrix was playing this music, I'd still hate it. This music puts me to sleep!

Just so you know, I tend to like punk rock (not the lame emo-core stuff like Saves the Day and Finch, but REAL punk like Misfits, Operation Ivy, Dead Kennedys, etc.). I like a good, hard-as-steel emo-ish album from time to time, which is why I like Samiam and Jawbreaker, but most bands having anything to do with emo drive me nuts. Hopefully that helps to put my tastes in perspective, so if you find your taste similar to mine this review might help you. It doesn't really help when people say how great the music is etc. if there's no context. And if your tastes are not similar to mine, feel free to ignore me.

5 out of 5 stars Knapsack-This Conversation..........2003-01-13

Just like any other band that gets better over time, so it was for the now-defunct Knapsack. Blair Shehan's songwriting skills have dramatically improved from album to album. "Silver Sweepstakes" had a few cuts that would become the trademark Knapsack sound, "Day Three..." kept up with the pace of progressive song structure and instrumentation, and "This Conversation..." is perhaps the pinnacle at which Knapsack could write and record. Perhaps similar to other "emo" bands like Braid and Jejune who broke up shortly after releasing their last and (by far) best album, Knapsack called it quits following their supporting tour for "This Conversation...". Nevertheless, Blair has formed a new group (The Jealous Sound) which is almost a carbon-copy songwise of Knapsack, so the continuing impressive "canciones" continue.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful Town is a wonderful show.......2004-10-25

This is a terrific show. It has a famous composer, great tunes and a good, upbeat story. Why it has so thoroughly faded from memory is a question that puzzles me greatly.

The orchestrations are attributed to another individual, but Bernstein must have taken some substantial role in their creation, for large parts of "Wonderful Town" resemble only one other musical, "West Side Story."

Rosalind Russell is the star here, and rightly so. She sings--or rather croaks--her material very well, indeed. Only in "Swing" is she overmatched by the musical requirements and even then she fights them to a draw.

Edith Adams is very good, too, as Eileen. I think of her as Edie Adams, a sixties icon, wife of comedian Ernie Kovacs, mayhem-minded member of the Nairobi Trio and super-sexy pitchwoman for White Owl Cigars. I had no idea that she had also starred on Broadway. It was a pleasant surprise to find her here.

The men in the lead parts sing in that typical Broadway growl: perfect diction and lousy tone. They are endearingly awful. And I mean that in the best possible sense.

Five stars, no doubt about it!

The first cast album of WONDERFUL TOWN sounds even better than ever in Decca's latest remastering. The sound is still somewhat flat (as are all Decca albums from the 40s/50s) but the Decca engineers have worked wonders on the 50 year old tapes making them sound as good as possible. Rosalind Russell was a perfect choice to play the acerbic Ruth. She doesn't have much of a singing voice but the songs were tailored to her limited range and she makes the character come alive. Edith Adams sounds properly winsome as her sister Eileen. In the supporing roles, Jordan Bentley comes off best as Wreck, but George Gaynes makes for a ponderous, somehwat stuffy Bob Baker.

In terms of album production, Decca eliminated the Overture and some of the dance music, and re-arranged "Christopher Street" to eliminate the spoken vignettes. Otherwise the score is presented in a faithful aural re-creation. The booklet offers a detailed synopsis to guide you through the score.

The bonus tracks are six songs from ON THE TOWN originally recorded when that show was playing on Broadway. This is NOT the definitive recording of ON THE TOWN. For that you need the 1960 album avaialble on Sony. But, the excerpts heard here provide an enjoyable bonus.

This marvellous new re-issue of WONDERFUL TOWN is a must-have for Broadway buffs. In fact, this is really two albums in one, as it also contains the rare 1945 studio recording of ON THE TOWN as a bonus!

The story is based on the play "My Sister Eileen", written by Joseph Fields and Jerome Chodorov; as well as the stories written by Ruth McKenney. The play was later turned into a successful Columbia film starring Rosalind Russell (as Ruth Sherwood) and Janet Blair as Eileen. Several years later Columbia released a musical version (following the success of WONDERFUL TOWN) which starred Janet Leigh and Betty Garrett.

WONDERFUL TOWN originally starred Rosalind Russell (repeating her film role) as Ruth and Edith 'Edie' Adams as Eileen. The cast also included George Gaynes (GIGI, 'Punky Brewster') as the romantic male lead.

The score by Betty Comden and the late Adolph Green is gorgeous, and features the comical "100 Easy Ways", the lilting "A Little Bit in Love" and the showstopping "Conga!" and "Wrong-Note Rag".

No Broadway-recording collection is complete without the original cast of this landmark musical.

This re-issue from the superb Decca Broadway range also includes the rare 1945 set of ON THE TOWN, which featured original cast-members Betty Comden, Adolph Green and Nancy Walker singing their songs from the show, with Mary Martin singing "Lonely Town" and "Lucky to Be Me".

Highly-recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Leonard Bart-stein? Listen for yourself...........2002-09-23

Leonard Bernstein never erred on the side of subtlety, and this original-cast album contains two of his most enjoyable essays in musical near-mayhem: "Christopher Street" and "The Wrong Note Rag." The former is vastly like the theme music to "The Simpsons," and the listener can decide for himself how much of a coincidence this is or isn't. "The Wrong Note Rag" uses the tritone of the scale and a varied meter to make life difficult for the singers and anyone trying to count along. Unlike so many send-ups of the 1920s, this song ingenioulsy captures the musical and lyrical feel of novelty numbers like 1924's "Fascinating Rhythm"--or, better yet, the slightly later "Crazy Rhythm." A parody of the 1920s that shows any sense of the 1920s is a rare item, indeed. "Wonderful Town" is an interesting, enjoyable, and valuable historical piece, and I can only imagine what later performers did with it. I don't want to know.

Yes, the original 1953 cast recording of "Wonderful Town" may not be the most complete cast recording of the hit musical BUT I would wholeheartedly reccommend this CD over any other version. Why? Because of its original cast members and its original orchestrations! Rosalind Russell is peerless as Ruth Sherwood (I consider her version of "One Hundred Easy Ways" one of the funniest songs in musical theatre history) and Edie Adams shines through radiantly. Listen to her sing "A Little Bit In Love" to understand what I'm talking about. Also, the original orchestrations gtive this CD more vibrance than any of the later incarnations INCLUDING the 1999 studio recording, which to me sounds too mechanical and the British orchestrator doesn't seem to get the rhythms right. The original cast recording is A MUST for the true theatre fan, abridged score or not
