3 out of 5 stars Not as good as expected.......2007-07-01

About 25% of the cuts on this CD are very obscure, not even hitting the top 50 on the charts, a couple above the top 100. The groups listed on the front of the case and the labels on the back show the best of the CD. They don't show the unknowns or little knowns. I question whether some should even be listed as bubble gum music, but that doesn't diminish their quality. There are 25 songs, but I liked only 18 at best. Look closely at the list of songs before buying.

4 out of 5 stars Nostalgic bee bop bubblegum rock.......2007-03-08

What is it about these 2 minute songs that makes you want to find them, buy them and play them again and again. Could it be that the light headed lyrics can actually be heard, or is it that the catch tunes simply rekindle the past when life as a youth was full of so much promise and - i had a head full of hair - its the latter i think, and this albums collection of songs rekindles that old spirit as though it was all happening again. A particularly "lekker" compilation - but whatever happened to Tracy .............. ba ba papapa ba papapa ba

5 out of 5 stars It is the Ultimate Bubblegum Collection!.......2007-01-27

This was another cd I had a hard time not playing over and over. It had some cool songs on it that I had been looking for on cd and just never did. It's a great compilation with a lot of songs!

3 out of 5 stars Another Album you will want for your collection........2007-01-08

Compiling a great collection requires having all of the songs that made the past in music history. This album has songs that you just don't find on the normal "Best Of" or "Greatest Hits By".

4 out of 5 stars I didn't know I liked "Bubblegum" until I heard this collection.......2006-08-28

Totally upbeat tunes get you singing along in no time. Great music to clean the house to.

5 out of 5 stars Great collection!.......2007-05-11

This is a great collection of BJ Thomas's hits, 24 of them. The only knock on this cd is that some of the songs have audible tape hiss which has been a problem with some of his other hits collections. Still, its well worthwhile to listen to and is the best collection I've heard of of his recordings, especially the earlier ones.

I was able to purchase a new copy at a lower price than Amazon's listed price from the other sellers links. I just can't help believing this is the best compilation of BJ Thomas's hits.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic.......2005-09-12

If you are a BJ Thomas fan, you need to get this one, and smile and be nostalgic!!!

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful.......2005-01-07

I am very pleased with this CD. There is more than 75 minutes of music and it includes all of B.J. Thomas's hits. I rate 6 of the songs as very good or excellent. My favorites are "No Love At All", "Rock & Roll Lullaby" and "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry".

I agree with the other reviewers that this is the one to buy for a B.J. Thomas collection.

5 out of 5 stars Look no further.....this is definitely the one you want.......2003-09-03

Spanning a period of more than 20 years and containing hits from 4 different labels, this Australian import is clearly the finest B.J. Thomas collection ever assembled. The first cut is the 1966 classic "Billy and Sue" which was released on Nashville's Hickory label. What follows are 18 cuts containing just about every one of B.J.'s hits on the Scepter label. Everyone is familiar with his biggest hits "Hooked on A Feeling" and of course his signature song "Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head", but frankly I am partial to some of his lesser known hits including "The Eyes of A New York Woman", "Mighty Clouds of Joy" and "Mama". But whatever your preference you will surely find them all here. Also included are a couple of his hits for MCA including "Another Somebody Done Somebody Wrong Song" as well as well as hit remake of the Beach Boys classic "Don't Worry Baby".
The final two cuts are from his days at Columbia. At this point in the mid-eighties, his records were only being played on country and adult contemporary stations. In my opinion, "Whatever Happened to Old Fashioned Love?" is one of his best discs ever. So spend an extra few bucks and pick up one of the best values you'll ever find.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent collection.......2003-02-20

This is the most comprehensive collection of BJ Thomas hits out there, and sounds great too. If you like BJ Thomas, this is definitely the "Greatest Hits" CD to get.

5 out of 5 stars All the hits from the sixties and eighties.......2005-03-07

Born Sandra Goodrich, she was discovered by Adam Faith and became Sandie Shaw. Sandie quickly established herself as one of the most important female singers of her generation, at least in Britain, between 1964 and 1967. Sandie was best suited to up-tempo material and that is clearly reflected in this collection. If you are looking for soft, romantic love songs, look elsewhere.

Sandie began her career with the Bacharach-David classic, Always something there to remind me. Taking the record to the very top of the UK charts, she knocked Roy Orbison (Oh pretty woman) off the top spot and remained there for three weeks, after which (curiously) Oh pretty woman returned to the top for one last week at the top.

Chris Andrews (who had his own hit with Yesterday man) wrote all of Sandie's subsequent hits prior to Puppet on a string, including her second UK number one (Long live love) and three other UK top ten hits (Girl don't come, Message understood, Tomorrow).

By the beginning of 1967, Sandie seemed to be fading fast, but she was then selected to represent Britain in the Eurovision song contest, which she won with Puppet on a string, written by Bill Martin and Phil Coulter. Sandie hated the song (so do I) but the public loved it and it became her third and last UK number one hit.

Sandie only had one more UK top ten hit, Monsieur Dupont, a translated French song. It was the first of two hits that Sandie had in 1969, after which it seemed that her career was over.

Sandie made a surprise comeback in the eighties because some of that decade's pop stars were fans of Sandie. Morrisey (then lead singer of the Smiths, who has since gone solo) was foremost among them. The Smiths had originally failed to make their own breakthrough with Hand in glove, but after making the big time with other songs, they provided the backing for Sandie's cover of the song. The ensuing publicity helped it to become a UK top thirty hit. Sandie followed-up with a minor hit, a cover of Are you ready to be heartbroken (Lloyd Cole).

Apart from all the hits, this set includes Sandie's covers of Those were the days (Mary Hopkin), Rose garden (Joe South - later to become an international hit for Lynn Anderson) and Anyone who had a heart (an American hit for Dionne Warwick, a British hit for Cilla Black and a French hit for Petula Clark). Also here is a single that completely missed the charts (Heaven knows I'm missing him now) but which inspired Morrisey to write the Smiths hit, Heaven knows I'm miserable now.

This compilation contains everything that most people will ever want of Sandie's music.
