This is an excellent representation of the original lineup of this band live. The recording quality is good...the bass is a tad boomy and muddy in spots.. but the sound is clean and clear. The 2nd side has several tracks that were obviosuly derived from lp's (as there are very noticeable scratches, ticks and pops present)....I dont know why this wasn't cleaned and remastered...a shortcoming that really hurt a great concert.

I plan to check into the other version available....hopefully it was taken from the master tapes.

I still give this a 5 star rating...just because the performance is worth having and it earned it.

Toronto-based Stampeders -- guitarist/singer Rich Dodson, bassist/singer Ronnie King and drummer/singer Kim Berly -- has always been something of a two-headed monster. On one hand the band made its name with such sweet pop songs as Carry Me, Sweet City Woman and Oh My Lady. On the other hand, it can, and often did, turn up the volume with rockers like Wild Eyes and Ramona. Of course, that made it hard to figure out just what kind of band the Stampeders were (and still are, by the way), and that hurt their career. Backstage Pass, recorded in 1974 at the Ontario Place Forum in Toronto (a free venue since replaced by a big, expensive outdoor shed) featured the band at its rocking best. Amidst the sound of screaming female fans, King, Berly and Dodson showed they were capable of surprisingly intricate arrangements. I'm thinking particularly of Marigold, with its stops and starts, and In The Shadows. Balancing that were good-time party songs like Devil You and King's take on Blue Suede Shoes. By the way, this reissue features four bonus tracks, including a 10-minute singalong of Sweet City Woman. It's been a long wait for this fine recording to come out on CD, but definitely worth it.

    First, let me start off by mentioning that the recordings here are of LRB in their prime, and I was an ardent fan of the group at that time (and still enjoy 'em). I attended the 10/27/79 concert in Pullman, WA, which makes up part of the second disc (the better one) and bought the LP set as soon as it came out in early 1980. The songs are good, as are the performances. But this CD release is NOT. The sound is muddy--far worse than the sound of the classic LRB studio CDs released in the US by Capitol. And, worse, the set seems like it was dubbed off vinyl LPs! Headphone listening is most unpleasant. There's what sounds like a RECORD SCRATCH audible in "The Rumour." I timed the clicks: They're 1.8 seconds apart--exactly what they should be for a 33 1/3 vinyl master! Other, lesser, clicks mar the rest of the set. Strange that what sounds like a bootleg should come from EMI, owner of the original tapes. Caveat emptor, and try for the domestic version, if you can get it.

    This is a live in concert 2 cd set.The first cd is Little River Band live with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra in Australia and features 10 live tracks,some of which are long,such as "It's a Long Way There"(9.08),"Light of Day"(10.06)and "Fall From Paradise"(6.19).Disc one's live version of "Reminiscing" has a very nice flugalhorn solo at the end and it also has good versions of "Statue Of Liberty" and "Help Is On The Way".Disc 2 is LRB live in concert,without the orchestra,touring the USA and is the better disc It features(as a bonus for fans)some never before released tracks like "Too Lonely Too Long","Red Shoes","I Don't Worry No More" and "Let's Dance".This is the only record where you can get them and two of them feature the heart of the bands vocals,Mr Beeb Birtles on lead.What a huge difference he made to the band.It also has a nice version of "Sweet Old Fashioned Man" by Glen Shorrock on lead vocal.A good rare collectors record for fans of LRB.

        BE ABSOLUTELY SURE YOU ARE GETTING THE "ONE WAY RECORDS" version.....and NOT the Dutch release EMIPLUS.......was obviously taken from an LP....one that was played several times....
