huey lewis.......2007-05-19
CD arrived quickly and in excellent condition (new) as indicated in product description. very satisfied.
Has it all (great quanitity of songs and great quality).......2007-03-27
This cd is perfect. It has a large quantity of songs (most of the popular songs) and also the sound quality is superb. If you are looking for a "best of" type cd then I recommend this one.
Sometimes music just makes you feel good.......2007-03-24
Huey Lewis and the News have made as many feel good songs as any other band in popular music. Even when things are going wrong in their songs, like on "If This is It?" you can't help but sing-along and grin mindlessly. From the distinctive combination of roughness and melody of Lewis's vocals to the solid backing of his talented band (Whatever happened to those great sax breaks that were so common in the 80's?) Huey Lewis and The News rarely disappoints. This collection runs from the band's breakthrough second recording to the DUETS soundtrack. A few quibbles...I think they could have thrown in a cut from the debut album when the band was a little less polished and why the songs are not in chronological order just irritates me. (and that's probably just me!) This band won't change your life, but they definitely have the ability to brighten your mood; sometimes that's exactly what music should do.
Huey Luis & the News Greatest Hits.......2007-03-08
Thanks for this hard to find cd. CD in great shape.
K TEL HUEY LEWIS AND THE NEWS GREATEST HITS.......2007-02-26
This remind me of a K-Tel Compact disc. Where they cut most of the songs. It is sad to see this on the disc. The remixes of the following. The Heart Of Rock n' Roll, I Want A New Drug, Power Of Loce, Jacob Ladder are terrible remixes by probably a amateur producer with no ear for music. I would recomend that you buy Time Files instead if you can get a used copy. The reason that I keep it I'm along time fan of Huey and the News and from the North Bay like Mr. Lewis

Album Description
Notebook Paper is a moving testimony to life's ups and downs from St. Louis native, Huey's eyes. Bound by his love for the streets and everything therein, it is as much gutter as it is straightforward and real. It's laced with guest appearances by Llyod, T-Pain, Bow Wow, and more. It features production by Jazze Pha, T-Pain, Tha Bakery, and Raw Beatzz among others. Inundated in a world beset by rappers preoccupied with immersing themselves in the superficial elements of the world, Huey allowed his heart to dictate where the music would take him. Notebook Paper tells it true.
Customer Reviews:
Style and flare to spare, but he needs work........2007-06-24
Huey is the newest emcee to come from the city of St. Louis, Missouri. Most of the rappers that preceeded him have long been known to be critical targets for most hip-hop heads; Nelly, Chingy, and J-Kwon alike have all been the target to hate in their heydays. While most of those artists warranted the hate(with the exception of Nelly on a few occasions), I believe Huey comes straight outta the box with more promise than any of the aforementioned artists hailing from his hometown. That doesn't instantly make this a good album, however.
Is Notebook Paper a good album? Yes, but nothing more. Huey shows a lot of promise and potential as an entertainer, but rarely shows glimpses of brilliance. While Huey is already one step-ahead of other commercial newcomers this year like Mims and the Shop Boyz, he doesn't exceed the ground Rich Boy set. He's got a lot of style, and flare in his delivery, and most of the production consist of phat, banging beats; but that's it.
Pop, Lock & Drop It, the first single, has an amazingly heavy beat that is sure to test your speaker's endurance. The hook, accompanied with a dance step, is addictive, and Huey's verses are competent enough to make the song a cerified hit. While it's easy for most closed-minded hip-hop 'elitists' to shun a track such as this for its success and intoxicating qualities, Huey's debut single was a great way to introduce himself to the masses.
Pop, Lock & Drop It isn't the only tight song on the album; the R&B cut featuring this year's favorite crooner, Lloyd, When I Hustle, is a nice, smooth collaboration, and the perfect choice for a second single. 2 Nite is a tight track that would sound even better under the influence of Screwston's purple drank, or at least, sounds tailor fitted for the chopped and screwed treatment. Nobody Loves The Hood is a deep cut focused on the lack of responsibility people take for the troubles found within urban neighborhoods, and Glad 2 Be Alive is an introspective cut featuring R&B sanga of the moment, T-Pain. T-Pain is also featured, along with Bow Wow, on the decent Pop, Lock & Drop It remix. Even the materialistic Closet Full Of Clothes gets by on the tight beat, and chopped and screwed hook; Huey's charisma also helps to carry this track along where it might've failed.
Overall, Huey's Notebook Paper is a nice debut from a talented young artist. There's plenty of room for improvement, but it's hard to hate on Huey for this release. At twenty years of age, there's plenty of room for growth, and rest assured, Huey WILL be back for a second round.
St. Louis is where it is at.......2007-06-21
Me bein a st louis native from the area where he is from i can feel what he is sayin on certain tracks. Even though this ccd could have been better it was his debut album and he did pretty good for his debut. I really liked the way that he explained the title of the cd in the intro and how all the songs talk about what he knows and what he has been through in his life which is how the cd is supposed to be big ups to Huey keep doin ya thang
usual suspects.......2007-06-21
The usual suspects usually make music that is suspect. Huey is the current usual suspect that is destroying ears across america with this trash that he calls rap. The lyrics are elementary, lack subject matter, and are just down right terrible. Most of the time when you have a commercial album like this one, the beats are pretty dope. Not in this case. Huey has some boring/repetitive beats that sound like they were made on a really cheap casio. This album rates as one of the worst albums of the year. Do not, I repeat do not waste your money.
Best of the STL.......2007-06-20
Huey's Notebook Paper, is first album from the St. Louis native. The new album in my opinion, is a better effort than Jibbs, Nelly, or Chingy's latest LPs. The beats have the same STL flavor, but the rapping is less "poppy" and a little more hard. It's the best stuff to come out of St. Louis in a while and hits well in the mainstream act, with the single "Pop, Lock & Drop It". Other tracks such as "Aye", "Nobody Loves the Hood", and "When I Hustle" feat. Lloyd, show Huey's versatility with his sound and lyrical abilities, as he is able to go from hard to hood life to soft. In total, the tracks flow well from the begining to the end, and I didn't want to skip any tracks to get to others. The album reminds me a lot of Juelz Santana's What the Game's Been Missing!. Overall, it was a great first start to Huey's career, and I recomend picking this up over the current releases from Fabolous or the Shop Boyz. Keep reppin' that S - T - L !
Huey- Notebook Paper.......2007-06-20
The Rap game is full of young artist's looking to make a name for themselves. St. Louis native Huey (A.K.A. Lawrence Franks Jr.) is another one of those MC's who's debut album is "Notebook Paper" (2007). On the "Notebook Paper" (Intro) Huey explains his album's name, then gets things started backed by a repetitive banging beat. Huey shouts his lyrics away on early forgettable efforts like "Bout Dat" & "Aye". The album's first single is "Pop, Lock & Drop It" a subpar track. Huey's lyrics are abysmal and the production from The Bakery Productions is very basic. Screwed up "Closet Full of Clothes" feat. Kydd Trell (a member of Huey's group The Camp Boyzz) follows, more skip material. More below average material follows, listening to this MC midway, bland beats, subpar lyrics and Huey's lack of charisma had this reviewer hitting skip. R & B singer laces "When I Hustle" with a smooth chorus, unfortunately Huey does very little with the track following the usual formula's. First standout track for me is "Nobody Loves the Hood" - Huey rhymes about street life, and how a lot of children have to come up without parents and direction. The follow up track has Huey giving thanks to god and happy to have found another avenue to make it on "Glad 2 Be Alive". Bow Wow & T-Pain appear on the remix closer of "Pop, Lock & Drop It". Huey can also be found on R Kelly's fiasco of an album "Double Up". The album cover has Huey sitting in a classroom, I think he would be better off spending some time in there working on his rhymes and flow, "Notebook Paper" is not a release I would recommend for the collection.

Amazon.com's Best of 2001
Though a well-publicized marriage did much to raise his celebrity profile, Guy "Mr. Madonna" Ritchie's claim as one of the world's most promising young filmmakers was already secure. Extending the gambit he began on Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, the English director's handpicked collection of pop songs for his jewel heist romp Snatch is a dizzying delight that eschews era and genre concerns in favor of flavorful character and loopy fun. Though his musical sense is one of the elements that have inspired Tarantino comparisons, Ritchie is clearly a league of one here. With a little fresh input from musical ally Klint, this anthology score ranges from the electro club mixes of Overseer and Mirwais to the vintage R&B workouts of Maceo Parker, Huey "Piano" Smith, and Bobby Byrd, with some pop kitsch of the 1970s (Johnston Brothers' "Hernando's Hideaway") and '80s (the missus's "Lucky Star") to keep the proceedings ever fresh and askew. Ritchie's pop choices are no less inspired, from Oasis and Massive Attack to the Specials' classic, "Ghost Town," and The Stranglers' own underrated jewel, "Golden Brown." --Jerry McCulley

Written and directed by Guy Ritchie, who wrote and directed, 'Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels'. In the same vein as Trainspotting and Pulp Fiction, the soundtrack covers a spectrum of musical hipness that is essential to the tone ofthe film artists included are Massive Attack, Madonna, Mirwais, Oasis, The Stranglers and The Specials. Standard jewel case. 2000 release.

Bruce's Review.......2007-02-02
Some of the tracks were somewhat disturbing so I skipped them when I recorded this album from CD to cassette. Overall, the tracks were eclectic and energetic. Listening to them definitely reminded me of specific scenes from the movie, which I own on VHS format. Down with digital and up with analog!
More than a Soundtrack.......2007-01-05
Not typically a fan of soundtracks. This one is awesome! Great collection of songs with great choice of dialogue mixed in. Listen to this one all the way through.
One more time..........2006-07-01
I have watched this movie so many times, and it is still great. I love Guy Richie's creactivity. An all star cast mixed with a great plot and that sly under the door humor make all much better than your normal hit man comedy.
Great Music.......2006-02-25
I mainly bought this to get the Mirwais - Disco Science track, but the whole cd is good. If you love the movie, you'll definately enjoy the cd.
It works in so many circumstances!.......2006-01-16
What a great soundtrack! For me, the soundtrack is the make or break point in some movies. In Snatch, it just enhanced the coolness of the movie. Dennis Farina was magnificent, and the sound clips of him are great on the CD.
There are many highlights. "Supermoves" by Overseer is a very in your face, distorted techno track. Works great on an expressway of some sort.
"Cross the Tracks" by Maceo and the Macks is the best song on the CD, nuff said. Really funky groove, adequate vocals, great backup instruments.
"Disco Science" has a nice throbbing bass throughout, and it culminates with musical insanity. Great.
The instrumental "F*cking in the Bushes" by Oasis worked great in that fight scene.
"Lucky Star" by Madonna... whipped. JK. I guiltily enjoyed this.
"Don't you just know it", the last track, was a superb way to round out the soundtrack, and the whole movie for that matter.
What else can I say? BUY IT!!!

A Grammy-winner!.......2007-07-10
SPORTS is Huey Lewis & The News' third overall album but their first Grammy-winner. On this CD you get the original 9-track line-up plus one demo version of THE HEART OF ROCK 'N ROLL and live versions of four other tracks. In addition to THORNR,hits from this original late 1983 or early '84 release include HEART AND SOUL,BAD IS BAD,I WANT A NEW DRUG,WALKING ON A THIN LINE and IF THIS IS IT. "Weird Al" Yankovic recycled the music of IWAND for his parody entitled I WANT A NEW DUCK for his '85 album DARE TO BE STUPID. Ray Parker Jr. sued Lewis because Parker believed Lewis used pieces of music from Parker's song GHOSTBUSTERS for IWAND. Parker and Lewis agreed to not let their settlement leak at all. Later,Parker inadvertently broke the promise and Lewis sued Parker! The rest is history. HL&TN's frequent hit-making continued with 1986's FORE! which won a multitude of Grammys as well. By the time SMALL WORLD was released in 1988,that album failed to garner any Grammys like its last two predecessors did.
A True Classic from the '80s!.......2007-07-03
This is one of the best albums ever recorded! It's addictive, fun, and one of my all time favorites. This is fantastic music that I just can't get enough of. The songs are incredible from start to finish and all have such a pleasent appeal to the listener. I would highly recommend this to any serious music fan. Why can't music be the way it was back then? You know, good. Most of todays music isn't worth a nickel and that's simply putting it in it's place. There is still some good music out there but it's hard to find. As for the rest of it, rap, most of the pop, and most of the alternitive rock just doesn't have it. On the other hand, I would perfer alternitive rock and pop over rap any day! Some of the alternitive rock is good but unfortunatly, as I said earlier, is hard to find. Of course this is simply my own opinions, but Huey Lewis and the News' "Sports" is true rock n' roll. Even "Honky Tonk Blues" is decent on this album and that's a Hank Williams cover.
More fun than....well....it's just plain fun!.......2007-03-25
Okay, so the songs are simple and nothing breaks new ground. But the one thing about this group is the immense amount of fun they are clearly having making music. "Sports" is a diverse collection of trendy songs and faithful tributes. Here's a song by song snapshot:
The Heart of Rock and Roll - a fun, poppy, hook-laden tribute to the history of rock music and a celebration of what's yet to come. Those horns make the song soar at the end.
Heart and Soul - their first top 10 hit and a great pop song finished off with some cool power chords.
Bad Is Bad - I used to hate this song, but time has made me come to love the wonderful bluesy vocal harmonies and the controlled playing. This is where you find just how tight a band they are.
I Want A New Drug - One of the coolest News songs; the lyrics are terrific and the band plays it into the stratosphere, with horns making the song fly once again.
Walking On A Thin Line - My personal favorite News song. Kind of autobiographical, but the tight playing - particularly in the chorus - makes this song special and timeless.
Finally Found A Home - Another great, but forgotten song; it's almost the band's lyrical response to the struggles expressed in Walking On A Thin Line. Those who don't know the News beyond their bounty of hits need to hear this song to really appreicate them.
If This Is It - A poppy breakup song - to me it's the weakest offering on the album, but when Huey wails "If this is it, please let me know", you actually buy it. So it's still okay.
You Crack Me Up - yeah, it's simple and says nothing new. And they sound like they're having so much fun, you'll wish you were right there in the studio when they recorded it.
Honky Tonk Blues - only years later did I realize how big a deal it is - a so-called 80's pop band covering Hank Williams, not just covering it, but capturing all the passion of the song.
Music is blessed with diverse artists. Some are there to challenge our thought process, and that's where Dylan came in. Some are there to set new trends - enter the Beatles. Some are there to lend the music to a rebellious generation - thank you Stones! Some made sonic exploration the playground, like Pink Floyd. And some blended wild amounts of style into new sounds, like Led Zeppelin. But sometimes, we dismiss those artists that just want to bring music to its simplest level and just make it fun and entertainment. And nobody since the mid sixties did it any better than the News did on this album. The best way to enjoy this album is to invite all your friends over, crack open a cold one, turn it up loud and par-tay!

Decent song solection BUT weak video selection and quality.......2007-03-05
First off, I am a huge Huey Lewis and the News fan and was lucky enough to have seen them "back in the day" as a $5 bar band in the SF Bay area. Although thought of as a pop band and dismiessed and panned by many in the music business, HLN were and still are an excellent rock and roll band. They always put on a great show and Huey Lewis, himself, is a class gentleman. They certainly belong in the R&R Hall of Fame in my opinion.
That said, the DVD portion of this release is dreadful. There are numerous ommisions such as "Back In Time" and "Some Of My Lies Are True" and "Perfect World". What is even worse is the quality of the video. I made a better copy of my HLN Video Hits using my VHS to DVD recorder! Whomever was in charge of the video portion should not pass go and not collect $200 for their work.
All in all, one can only hope for some great old stuff to get released like the live New Year's show from Japan and the remastered Video Hits collection. Thank goodness for my video to DVD recorder! If you are a true HLN fan, you have all the songs but wanted the DVD (like me). Sadly, you will be disappointed in the quality.
Greatest Hits.......2007-01-17
This is by far the best compilation of hits from Huey Lewis & the News. Most bands are lucky enough to have a couple of hits during their career, but from 1982 to 1994 Huey and the boys had no less that 18 Billboard top 40 hits, from Do You Believe in Love to But It's Alright. Virtually all of those hits are represented here, with only 2 smaller hits Walking on a Thin Line and It Hit Me Like A Hammer missing from the collection. Still, with so many hits here this is an embarassment of riches for the band.
Especially appreciated here as a fan are harder to locate songs like the live version of Trouble In Paradise, and Cruisin' with Huey and Gwyneth Paltrow.
Definately go for the Greatest Hits and Videos version of his compilation, this includes 10 music videos from their heyday during the 80's, including all 5 videos from their extremely successful Sports album. One of the things that contributed to their success was their fun-spirited music videos, which showcase the band's wonderful sense of humor throughout. Whether if it's the six guys in the band strangely singing their undying love to a woman sleeping soundly in bed in the video for Do You Believe in Love, or Huey being ridiculed by a carnival worker for being unable to win a decent prize at one of the carnival booths in If This Is It, you'll really enjoy the videos throughout. My only complaint is they didn't release more videos, but that's being greedy.
If you like Huey Lewis and the News at all, you really can't go wrong with this collection. A great collection from one of the 80's biggest hitmakers.
Huey Lewis & the News: Greatest Hits & Videos.......2007-01-10
Great music for me since 1982 when I first heard their tunes from the "Picture This" release. The CD brings back good feelings and the DVD makes me laugh at their humor to their songs. But, I don't know if the DVD is made as it is when I make a SINGLE selection to play a certain video-song. It plays all songs the same as selecting PLAY. Although I am happy to see the video of "Do You Believe In Love." I still miss "Do You Love Me Like You Say You Do" and their original "Workin' For A Livin'" videos. It is only why I scale 4 stars. Thank you Amazon.com and Huey Lewis & the News!
Okay release, but a slight disappointment if you ask me.......2007-01-09
I bought my copy of this CD during the late summer of this past year, and I must say it has turned out to be somewhat of a disappointment. However, I allowed my lady friend, Emily, to borrow it during her visit to my area -- back in October -- and she has been hooked on it from the beginning! I offered to give it to her, but she refused to take mine. So, in turn I got her a copy of it for Christmas this year -- in addition to "Fore!", which is one of my top favorite Huey Lewis albums of all time!
The reason why I am disappointed with the album overall is because most of the big hits here are the single versions -- which are edited!! When it comes to listening to Huey Lewis & the News, or any of my favorite groups for that matter, I prefer the full-length LP versions of my top favorite songs. The only time I like a single version is when it is a remix version, which was redone for the better -- such as the single remix edition of "1-2-3", by Gloria Estefan -- and only then will I accept it.
When I first discovered that most of the hits I like were edited versions of the originals, I became utterly disappointed. However, "The Power of Love" is the same version I've always liked to this day, and the same goes for "Heart & Soul", "If This is It", and "Do You Believe In Love?". Emily's favorites on this album are two of the four aforementioned songs above, in addition to "The Heart of Rock & Roll" and "Crusin'". She likes the latter, because on our first big date together I brought along the CD in my Mustang, and I played the album for her all the way through. "Crusin'" is the song that pretty much describes our outing for that day, even though it was originally featured in a recent movie. Anyway, I wish I could say that my Mustang is a 5.0-litre convertible -- but it is only a 2.3-litre, 4-cylinder hardtop. Too bad, huh?
Anyway, for those of you who are like me and prefer the full-length LP versions of Huey Lewis's music, then I would not reccomend this album to any of you. Sorry, Mr. Lewis (with all due respect), but your best hit collection release so far is still "Time Flies" from 1996 -- at least in MY opinion. Anyway, I am also thinking about ordering another copy of that release, because my last 'girlfriend' (and I say that, because she turned out to be a phoney) kept it for herself. When she borrowed it from me in 2003, after we broke up I never got it back from her. Besides, I miss having the LP version of "The Heart of Rock & Roll".
Don't get me wrong, folks, but this latest hit collection by Huey Lewis is not all THAT bad, as indicated here by the 4-star rating. Aside from the edited versions of the Huey classics, there are also several other hits I enjoy on this album -- such as the live version of "Trouble In Paradise", originally featured on "USA For Africa: We Are The World", and released back in 1985. I also like "Back in Time", from "Back to the Future", also released in 1985. Both of these songs have been favorites of mine since I got my original copy of "Time Flies" and an import album called "The Heart of Rock & Roll: The Best of Huey Lewis & the News". The latter album also features the edited versions of the classic hits, aside from "Heart & Soul", "If This Is It", and "The Power of Love". I admit that before I bought that latter album, I failed to recognize the edited versions of selected tracks. I still have it today, though, but mainly for collector's purposes.
For those of you who don't have a problem with the edited versions of Huey Lewis's classic hits, then this album would not be all that bad. I intend to keep mine anyway, because I still have yet to watch the DVD videos on it. I've een without a working DVD player since early on last year, and have not had time or money to see about getting another one for myself. I have also been looking at ordering an NEC DVD burner for my home PC. Anyway, folks, that's all for now. Take care.
Best Regards,
Russell
The most underrated band of all-time.......2006-10-02
Huey Lewis and the News wrote and performed some of the best rock and roll in the 80's and are still great to this day. In fact, they are still the most amazing live band you will ever see. What other band has the talent to sing 5-part acapella harmonies live perfectly every time, and also incorporate a great horn section, then a second later rock your socks off, they have it all IMO. The drummer Bill Gibson is killer, Mario's bass lines on this CD are amazing, Chris Hayes guitar playing is diverse, rockin', and tasteful, and Huey's got a likeable and convincing voice. But GREAT songwriting! These catchy, highly original songs are written and produced by the boys themselves, so you know they know what they're doing, a pro outfit for sure...Throw on "Back In Time" and it's impossible to be in a bad mood. You can practically see Marty McFly and Doc Brown in "Back to the Future" when you hear it. With songs like "Perfect World", "Heart and Soul", "The Power of Love", "I Want A New Drug", "Couple Days Off", "The Heart of Rock and Roll", etc. it's hard not to get hooked on this band. And they grow on you more over time. I'm not impressed easily, but this CD's audio remastering is amazing. Grab this CD/DVD combo and hear why Huey and his hard rocking News are one of the tightest ensembles in music history. I GUARANTEE you will not be able to take this out of your CD player for at least a couple of weeks, and that's what it's all about, you get your money's worth with this package. Go ahead, cough up the chump change and rock with the News.

Don't Listen & Drive unless you have Cruise Control.......2007-03-10
Crank it up and rock on. This is a great bluesy, rock and roll album that always makes me want to dance. Shake, Rattle, and Roll; just be careful when driving to watch the speedometer.
HUEY'S HAVING SOME FUN.......2007-01-18
I really enjoyed this offering from Huey Lewis and the News. Harmonies are tight, music is tight, and they put a little different spin on these "Other People's Hits". By the way, if you have never seen Huey live in concert, you are definately missing a great show.
Nice lighthearted collection of tunes.......2006-06-20
Fans always have mixed feelings when their favorite artist takes a stab at another project that may be a little outside the norm.
This record is definitely a departure from the "classic" sound of Huey Lewis and News. Matter of fact, Huey's raspy voice is really the only recognizable element that would make you ask your self, "What a minute, isn't that Huey Lewis?"
I don't remember exactly how this record joined my collection, but I suspect I purchased it while browsing countless material in used music shops in the mid to late 90's. I was never a huge Huey Lewis fan, I think I maybe owned "Sports" before this one, so the fact that I chose this over one of the band's more established pop records is a mystery to me.
It's a nice lighthearted collection of tunes, I enjoy "But It's Alright," "You Left the Water Running," and "Your Cash Ain't Nothin' but Trash."
Shake, Rattle, and (Especially) Roll: A Lil' Bit More Than Decent My Friends.......2006-05-25
I first heard this CD driving around the streets of Dubai, UAE, with a displaced American yearning for a taste of home. It blew my roots of rock socks off.
I hated Huey and the gang growing up. Blek. Not good Pop; not even close to good rock. Indecisive. Here The News is: this is everything Rock and Roll couldn't be when it first got pumpin' in the 50s. Huey and the Comets take a good thing and make it great.
Do you throw Mary Tyler Moore parties? Put this CD on and for one entire CD, your party won't stop dancing. I love this album.
Alone on a desert island, I'll take this 4 Chords to make me happy and. . .a Tom Waits album to remind me that I'm. . .alone on a desert island.
Shake`s sometimes, but sometimes it does`nt ........2006-02-27
This is a weird one. To bring his 8o ths "hip to the square" style to some classical rock and roll songs. It`s a so so listening, that put`s Huey Lewis all over the song`s but have problem`s to bring us back to 5o ths. It start`s ok with the soulfull saxophone on Shake Rattle and Roll, on track 1, but
then Lewis voice doesn` fit`s in in a way. Track 2 Blue Monday, has a good musical background atmosphere, but the vocal one brings it down. The saxophone is great anyway. Track 3 Searching for my love, is a sentimental weepie, and the quality mark weeps too. Track 4 She`s somekind of wonderful, is more in the Lewis 80 ths style, and this one works. On Track 5 But it`s alright we are back in the "stream of cliches" once again. It`s anyway ok in a way. Track 6. If you gotta make fool of somebody, sounds like "poor manns"Burt Bacarach, which is a minor stepdown.
Track 7 Mother in Law, is an upstiffer, and on this one Huey "steps" on the right buttons, all trough. Track 8 Little Bitty Pretty One, is an even better song. The only 5 star song on this CD, with it`s tempo up beat rock and roll rythm all trough. This one shines. Track 9 Good Morning little school girl, is an ok, blues song, which another vocal than Huey (or it could be?) brings some flaire to the song. Track 10 Stagger Lee, is a classic. The original is better. Track 11. She shot a hole in my soul. Yes she does and Huey does too, when i listen to it. Bad to the bone this, with it`s hybrid 50 th`s and 80 ths soundpicture. Track 12 Surley i love you, sound`s like a "comic book song", and is more "cartoon" than rock and roll. Track 13 You left the water running, is cool, and has a certain temperature all trough. Track 14 Your cash ain nothin but trash, has some guts, but it doesn`t kicks off . Track 15 Function at the junction has big band flair, but that`s all. Track 16 Better to have and not need, it`s "urban big band beat" as poor man`s blues brothers, but that`s not a quality mark on this one, but it sparks here and there sometimes. Track 17 Going down slow, is a fast "blues rock and roller" that sparks lively.
As a whole this one shake`s sometimes, but on most of the track`s it doesn`t. That`s it folks !

Another Grammy-winner!.......2007-07-10
The title was ideal for Huey Lewis & The News' fourth overall album despite the golf term. This album was preceded by the band's 1980 self-titled debut,1982's PICTURE THIS and the Grammy-winning SPORTS,released in late '83 or early '84. The band garnered more Grammys with the hits JACOB'S LADDER(written or co-written by Bruce Hornsby),STUCK WITH YOU,DOING IT ALL FOR MY BABY,HIP TO BE SQUARE and I KNOW WHAT I LIKE. The success of this album lasted for a year, from its summer 1986 release thru the following summer! In the photo, one of the "Newsmen" holds a miniature golf club. Unfortunately, the 1988 follow-up SMALL WORLD didn't win any Grammys but spawned two Top 20 hits. The band was then dropped from the Chrysalis label, which was extinct since 1990 and they moved to EMI-Manhattan.
Great CD! I have owned copies of this album since its debut in 1986........2007-01-09
This is by far one of the absolute best releases by Huey Lewis & the News. Powerful, hard-hitting, and quite emotional. Now, I bought my own copy of this CD back in the spring of 1993, and I've had it ever since. The CD I purchased here was a Christmas present for a special lady friend of mine, named Emily. And a sweet girl SHE is, I can tell you. Anyway, I also got my first ever copy of this album on cassette, back during Christmas 1986. During the summer of that year, "Stuck With You" was my then top favorite. But if you read below, you will see that I have since switched to a different and much better song. I also dedicated this song to Emily recently, and I am not referring to "Stuck With You".
Anyway, my all-time favorite song on this album is not even one of the groups hits. I am referring to "Forest For the Trees". When I first got to hear this song on Christmas Day of 1986, I was hooked!! I also enjoy pretty much the rest of the entire album, aside from "Whole Lot of Lovin'". My mom's favorite on this album is "Naturally", because it also sounds like a barber shop quartet. Emily's favorite on this CD is "Doing It All For My Baby", and it is somewhat of a favorite of mine as well. Another one of my favorites on this album is "Hip to be Square", because I have always considered myself a 'square'. And this song is somewhat of a war cry for those folks out there who are just like me. It all has to do with the way I was raised, and there's nothing wrong with that!
Anyway, for those of you who like hard-hitting, powerful rock music from the '80s era -- but without all the nonsense and profanity -- then I definitely would suggest that this album is for you. Don't get me wrong, for there are other bands out there who are just as popular as Huey Lewis & the News, if not even more popular, such as Journey and Rush -- whom I also love to this day, but Huey Lewis's band is one of the groups I began listening to early on in my teenage years. Besides, they are still pretty much "The Heart of Rock & Roll".
Anyway, folks, y'all might wanna pick this one up for your collection. Enjoy. The same goes for you, Emily, babe.
Be-FORE & after.......2006-10-12
I grew up in the 80's and this was a hip band. I originally bought this on cassette and recently looked to get it on CD. Amazon had a great price and I decided to go "Back in time". The music was as I remembered, great! I like the non-hits alot on this CD. I know radio wouldnt play them so they sit unless you are a fan. "Whole lotta lovin", "Simple as that", and "I know what I like" are just a few. I really enjoy "Naturally" which is accapella. I wish HLN would put out a CD of all accapella music. I guess you could say that "FORE'S" hits were played out in the 80's. They feel fresh again, though. GO BACK!
Huey Lewis & the News at their best.......2006-07-11
There are some very quality songs on this album, from the hit Jacob's Ladder to the a capella Naturally to Hip to be Square. The gamut is covered here. It's a more mature collection than Sports and as such it wasn't the commercial success that the aforementioned album was. That shouldn't diminish its value as to the listener. Unlike many recordings of that era, this one isn't filled with trite bubble-gum ditties or overly-dramatic anthems. It strikes a good balance. It's one of my favorite albums of the period and my all-time favorite of the band's.
Do you like Huey Lewis and the News?.......2006-02-21
Their early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when Sports came out in '83,I think they really came into their own, commercial and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consimante professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far much more bitter, cynical sense of humour. In '87, Huey released this, Fore, their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Hip to be Square", a song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity, and the importance of trends, it's also a personal statement about the band itself.

Sports preview from Huey Lewis and News........2006-02-10
Huey Lewis and the News' sophomore album, the self-produced Picture This (1982) was a warmup for the colossal explosion that would become Sports. While not as polished as Sports, Picture This does feature HL&N's trademark 80's rock fused with soul and doowop stylings, not to mention their appealing falsetto harmony vocals and some downright fiery guitar from lead guitarist Chris Hayes, and snappy percussion from drummer Bill Gibson. But the synergistic teamwork ensured that Huey Lewis didn't steal the spotlight just because he was lead singer. In examining the people consisting the groups, I note how they play an instrument and do vocals.
The album itself yielded three singles, two of which the Top 40. The first was the Mutt Lange-penned smooth pop song "Do You Believe In Love," a #7 hit which contains the aforementioned hallmarks of their sound, where the title chorus features harmonies from the group. The #36 "Hope You Love Me Like You Say You Do," had a more leisure doowop/jazz sound, with some stylings that would later be used in "If This Is It" in Sports. Finally, the snappy and upbeat "Working For A Livin'", which has some cool organ and which I remembered being played over the speakers at the 1992 Democratic Convention, missed the Top 40 by one spot. "I'm taking what they're givin cuz I'm working for a livin'" goes the chorus, as Lewis and buddies sing of the hardships of trying to make ends meet, such as a check that's already spent for expenses such as a $100 condo and $200 rent. It seems a bit unfair that a song aimed at those of us hard workers didn't do as well, and yet the equally upbeat "Hip To Be Square" made it to #3 years later.
As for the rest, "The Only One" with some hard-driving guitar from Hayes, is a fond remembrance to a classmate who had what it took to be cool and was an inspiration to his peers, only to have a not-so successful life, losing his girl, and finally dying in an accident. This catchy tune could've been a single due to its resemblance to the pop-rock performed by Rick Springfield, Jackson Browne, and Loverboy. Ditto for "Whatever Happened to True Love" on the protagonist's idealistic belief that they were going to be different from the breakup couples, yet in musing on the title words, tries to figure out what went wrong.
"Change of Heart" benefits from some strong guitars and a consistent rhythm section and is a great opener. It's classic 80's material. They cover the Hollywood Flames' #11 1958 hit "Buzz Buzz Buzz" to close things off, and their fondness for early rock and their influences are evident with this decent and upbeat cover.
Cutting their teeth on this Sports preview proved worthwhile, as it gave them a warmup at the gym-I mean studio, to produce their best album and arguably one of the best albums of the 1980's.
The album that put The News into the news.......2002-07-14
Their first album was great, but overlooked. This album would put them into the music mainstream. With their top ten single, "Do You Believe In Love", Huey Lewis & The News gained fame overnight. This album was almost never released though. Prior to release, Huey Lewis & The News looked over the album, realized it had plenty of great songs, but they needed a hit single. At this point they added "Do You Believe In Love" to the album in order to get it to sell. In retrospect it was a brillant move. Some of the other songs like "Tell Me A Little Lie", "Workin' For A Livin'", and "The Only One" are fine examples of the News's talent. This album is pure gold. No Huey Lewis collection is even partially complete without this. And for those who don't follow the News this album will get you hooked in minutes.

Hard Workin' Band.......2000-07-11
Picture This was Huey Lewis & The News' breakout album. It contains one of the ten best songs of the 80's in "Do You Believe In Love". Try listening to the song without singing along. The rest of the album is a collection of catchy, hummable tunes including "Giving It All Up For Love", "The Only One" & "Buzz Buzz Buzz". The rolicking "Workin' For A Livin'" defines the band's attitude. There are no messages here, just fun, good-time music, that's easy on the ears. Great to throw on at a party. Sit back, crack a beer and enjoy the ride.

Pretty good except for the fact they left off "Walking on a thin line". Record companys do this on purpose so fans dont just buy the greatest hits and ignore the rest of the catalog.

excellent cd of all the hits by huey lewis and the news. really enjoyed it and would recommend it.
The greatest hits are great........2006-07-12
I love every song on this cd. I never really knew anything about this band but one day I saw this and said "why not?" I like all the songs on here some I knew and some I had never heard but they are all great. I allways listen to this cd now because it's great music. Not just a few songs but the whole cd.
Such a good Album.......2006-05-23
We'll do a track by track review here...
1. Heart of Rock and Roll- Everyone knows this track, and it's a big one. This song has been called bad by some, even some called it a "history lesson" for naming all these names in cities, but it's a great opener.
2. Heart and Soul- The guitar line for this song drives it. It's an amazing tune, and the chorus is catchy as hell. Another great one.
3. Doing it All for My Baby- Huey shines as a writer here. It's a very good love song, and a nice solo is thrown in here as well. A very recognizeable track.
4. Do You Believe in Love- Another awesmome guitar line here. A slower paced song, and was redone to sound slower and more jazz type. I like the new version better.
5. Trouble in Paradise- I haven't really listened to this song much, so I cant give a good estimate on it.
6. The Power of Love- The pretty much definitive Huey song. From the Back to the Future soundtrack. Another great guitar part here, and the song starts from the get go, and doesnt ever let up.
7. If This is It- These guitar lines are becoming something of a pattern here. An awesome intro, and a great song. You can tell what he was going through when he wrote it. An awesome song.
8. Bad is Bad- A good song. A slow, underground type feel. Huey is going back to his home, and sees a strange pai of shoes under the bed. Nice.
9. Working For a Livin'- A fast paced song about Huey's working days. Short, clocks in a little over 2 minutes.
10. It's Alright- When the News do a cappella, they shine. This is a great song, an d all parts blend together so well, and they compliment each other.
11. Stuck With You- Kind of an ironic title. It's about two people who fight and have problems, but know they should be together no matter what they do.
12. I want a New Drug- Awesome guitar part. Awesome song. Cool video. All around good in this.
Missing A Couple of Hits But Still Great.......2006-03-01
I've been a fan of Huey Lewis for a long time. Like a lot of people, I discovered the band from the Back to the Future films. If you don't own all of the albums yet, this is the best place to start. It has all the hits you need from the band, well almost. With great songs like "Stuck with You" and "Power of Love", you can't help but wonder why they didn't include other hits like "Back in Time" or "Hip To Be Square". But for this price, it is a bargain, it's worth a lot more. This band is one of the greatest of all time and you do yourself a favor if you get this record! It's great.

Big fat guy with a Big Fat sound ! ! ! .......2007-04-10
This is hard and heavy funk and soul - - literally... big, beefy, brassy...
Sadly, the lead singer, the 400lb. Baby Huey died a year before it was released.
Actually, the band itself is worth the purchase... however, no doubt, Baby Huey fronted it.
- - Tracks include classic "Memphis" type soul (typical to the era) as well as the live funky horn and percussion driven high energy grooves that make the album worth the purchase... Though true, many of the tunes aren't THAT much different than their covers (or sound like you heard them before) the energy is definitely there... A high point being Curtis Mayfield (who signed him)'s MIGHTY MIGHTY SPADE AND WHITEY which is just as good (if not better) than the original.... you can really feel the party atmosphere!
A few tunes seem a cross between RIPPLE and BLACK HEAT... admittedly as a whole the album is not all RAW FUNK... however when the band does go into RIPPING mode... they RIP... A few tunes even have an (early) Chicago influence while others are typical Wilson/Otis/Bobby Womack-ish influenced soul... though again, the album shines for its group sound - - a favorite tune of mine being MAMA GET YOURSELF TOGETHER, with its cranked up horn/rhythm guitar driven groove (with a suspiciously Booker T'ish type setting on a really fat sounding Hammond.)
If you like this type of stuff, I'd definitely get KASHMERE TEXAS THUNDER SOUL (actually first...)
Classic Horn Band.......2007-01-09
For those who are fans of Chicago Transit Authority and Blood Sweat and Tears, this album presents another side of the "horn band" sound of the late '60's and '70's. Funky, raw and over the top approach to the music.
THE LEGEND SAYS IT ALL.......2007-01-03
ALL I HAVE TO SAY IS A LEGEND IN IT'S SELF. LISTEN TO ME REMINDS ME OF BACK IN THE DAY WHEN I USE TO GO OUT TO THE CLUBS AND THE GUYS WOULD BE BREAK DANCING ON THE FLOOR. (AHHH THE GOOD OLE DAYS) THIS CD IS A CLASSIC A MUST BUY!
"Listen to Me," Baby Huey is the real deal.......2006-10-24
James "Baby Huey" Ramey died before his album came out in 1971, but put on the first track, "Listen to Me," and you know this sucka is immortal. Baby Huey is R&B, soul, rock'n'roll, and psychedelia all rolled into one 400-pound fireball of pure talent and grit. The sucka could sing and he was backed by the tightest band on earth. Sucka played for royalty, sucka played for the hood, sucka died while making this debut album that would have sent him to the top of the world. Do yourself a favor and buy this album now! Your booty will thank me later.
A soul/blues.funk/psychedelic classic........2005-08-08
'Huey, a chicago native, was a protege of Curtis Mayfield (who produced this album and released it via his Curtom imprint) and somewhat of an eccentric. He was 400 pounds, had a huge afro, a King Tut beard and dressed flamboyantly. The picture on the back of this album is priceless : him in a pinstripe suit with a huge ankle length robe over it standing reading a cookbook. He recorded a handul of singles and died of a heartattack aged 26 before this album came out in 1970
He took his cues from Chicago groups like The Impressions (the group Curtis Mayfield fronted before going solo), Mayfield himself, the psychedelic blues albums by Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf released on legendary Chicago label Chess Records in the late 60's and then mixed them with some raw, ballsy Stax soul via Booker T & The M.G's melting pot to create something that only Mayfield, Issac Hayes, James Brown, Funkadelic and Sly Stone managed to better.
You have the driving, gritty soul of "listen to me" & "hard times", the funked-up psychedelic blues of "mighty mighty" & "runnin'" (which Mayfield wrote and later recorded but the Huey original is the definitive version), instrumental jams like "mama get yourself together" & "one dragon, two dragon" and, finally, you have what have to be two of the greatest cover versions ever recorded : his funked up version of "california dreamin'" and his staggering 9 minute + version of Sam Cooke's "a change is gonna come" which has to be heard to be believed.
Rap fiends should definately check this album as it's been sampled to death over the years and "listen to me" was a party favorite back in the days of Bronx block parties in the 70's. If you're a fan of blues or Hendrix and would like to start investigating soul/funk but find James Brown too dancefloor friendly or Marvin Gaye too polished then this would a good starter along with the first 3 Curtis Mayfield studio albums.
