The tunes in John Playford's The English Dancing Master have been recorded frequently and are a staple in English country dance circles. Jeremy Barlow and the Broadside Band present here some of the best renditions of these tunes that are currently available on CD. I strongly recommmed this CD for anyone interested in Renaissance music, country dance music, or just plain ole' fun music.

          Originally released in 1968,as this self-titled effort was the West Coast psychedelic/sunshine pop band's sole record.Not bad at all,includes their singles as bonus cuts.Was impressed with the female vocals on this CD reissue.Some of the tunes I really dug were "Get Out Of My Life Woman","Swallow The Sun","Saturday Night Flight"(sounds fun to me)and the sappy "Ballad Of A Sad Man".Line-up:Bonnie Blunt-tambourine&vocals,Dan Altchuler&Fred Barnett-guitars,Mike Joyce-bass,Walt Flannery-organ and Jeff Barnett-drums.Should appeal to fans of The Mama&The Papas,Lovin' Spoonful,Spanky&Our Gang and The Turtles.

          Let me start by saying that I LOVE SUNDAZED. I belive that they are the BEST label out there repackaging 1960's folk/psych/sunshine hard to find groups and I belive it is very important to perserve ALL of these forgotten groups' song's. With that said. This CD isn't my favorite. I like The Mojo Men, vejtables,and Peanutbutter Conspiracy much better. In fact, my personal favorite song on The Love Exchange CD is "Swallow the sun," which was one year later retitled "Dark on you now" and redone by The Peanutbutter Conspiracy (also a GREAT tune). Bonnie Blunts vocals were good, however there was very little guy/girl harmony, she pretty much sang it all. Alot of the songs are very stoned sounding, the lyrics seem to be a bit clummsy and forced. example of stoned sounding lyrics goes as such: Lets fly, the we'll be high, it'll be so beautiful, that we'll cry, etc. I have begged and pleaded with SUNDAZED to get a SUNSHINE COMPANY CD together (being that there is one, its a import, and its never in stock here)
